Daniel Craig stated that he actually had to write part of the movie himself, along with the director, and as he said, "I am not a writer." All things considered, I think they did their best.

@@suddenimpulse030 Yeah, there is a cool meme somewhere, where they compare Craig's Bond with Connery's Bond. And Connery is flirting, having a good time, drinking martinis, joking etc. And Craig's Bond is miserable all the time, alcoholic, doesn't flirt but can't let go of that one chick, he barely uses gadgets anymore. they also made Q some zoomer kid and Money Penny they turned into black feminist, lol no inuenndo between that character and bond, which was always fun. Overall feminist era Bond got progressively worse until he was practically on his way out to make room for black feminist Bond. Look so many other source materials, butchered by woke Hollywood.

Daniel Craig wrote this himself thanks to the 2007 writers strike. When you look deeper into the plot, its actually a really solid movie. Dominic Greene is in a way more terrifying than most Bond villains, because instead of a cat stroking criminal mastermind, he’s someone who can exist in the real world. A sleazy businessman who makes deals with corrupt politicians.
@chasetoy1087
@chasetoy1087 11 ай бұрын
He contributed to it, but he didn't do the whole thing himself. There were actually 3 writers aside from Craig's (uncredited) contributions and Craig's contributions had to do with him and the director "re-writing" many scenes at the last minute and on the fly due to the Strike. It originally wasn't intended to be a sequel to Casino Royale but the things that ended up making it a sequel were those rewrites.

I really like the plausible, real world storyline of this movie. The CIA matter-of-factly doing business with some extremely nasty people and being quite happy to screw over their allies in the process. And Quantum aren't trying to take over the world, because - as a group of extremely rich industrialists and powerbrokers - they effectively run the world already.

Bond, to M at the end, “Congratulations, you were right.” he finally admits that he did love Vesper. And that sets the tone for his character. The womanizing playboy, who Bond always was, had one great love that hurt him so deeply that he could never be close to anyone again. This is why casino royale, and quantum of solace are my two favorite Craig movies. Enjoyed watching your reaction and I’m glad you liked it also.
@marcw6875
@marcw6875 11 ай бұрын
I think it was more admitting that M was right that Vesper wasn't just someone who betrayed him, but rather she was a victim of circumstances that forced her to do what she did. It's true that he did love Vesper, but considering he casually tossed aside that necklace of hers at the end of this movie, the message seems to be more that he thinks the Vesper chapter is over and he's not looking back. Don't forget that Bond still had his womanizing moments in Skyfall and Spectre.

I am one of these weirdos that really enjoyed this one. I liked how it deals with the fallout of what happened (immediately) after Casino Royale, I liked that Camille and Bond had two separate, but parallel stories going and he didn't even have to sleep with her and the movie starts with, imo, the best Bond chase scene of the franchise and, just as you catch your breath, you get another white knuckle chase scene, this time on foot. And, while you get a better feel for the shadowy organization behind Le Chiffre and Dominic Greene, you still don't have a full grasp of just how extensive it is, not to mention you conclude the film with Bond turning even harder and colder than he ever was and you understand why.

@@johnbernhardtsen3008 Sure, but for Moore that was part of the charm at the time, in a sense you didn't want him to Houdini his way out of being chained up or to MacGyver a little bomb out of office supplies or just be stronger than the badguys planned for (The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman were doing that), you wanted him to pull out a Q gadget or just outmaneuver the badguy. And you're being a bit unfair to Brosnan's Bond, for example remember the helicopter and the tank in GoldenEye or the tall building and motorcycle chase and endfight with Stamper in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Two fun facts: Bolivia was chosen as part of the plot because of the country's history of water. In 1999, the Cochabamba Water War happened, it was a series of protests against the privatization of the city's water supply. Several scenes in the Atacama desert were recorded in the north of Chile, during the filming there was an incident. The mayor of the commune of Sierra Gorda, Carlos López, staged a protest because he was angry at the filmmakers' portrayal of the Antofagasta Region as part of Bolivia. He was arrested for trespassing the set and put on trial 2 days later.

The irrational hatred of the one henchman with the Dumb and Dumber haircut was not something I expected to see in this reaction, but seeing it was definitely the highlight of my evening. Quantum of Solace is a Bond film that tends to get a bad rap, but I don't think the film is _that_ bad. It's clear that the script suffered due to the 2007-8 writers' strike (quite an apt time to release this reaction), resulting in a convoluted and overstuffed story, a weak villain and underdeveloped plot beats. The editing is also a problem, the entire film is cut to ribbons in that very typical Jason Bourne-esque fashion, making the action scenes in particular very hard to follow. That said, I love the way they've developed Bond's character and actually explored his grief and depression following Vesper's betrayal and death. Daniel Craig himself is excellent as always, the music is legitimately great (save for that awful theme song), and there's some great scenes here like the opera scene. This film has the bare bones of a good or even great Bond film, but it had the misfortune of being made and released at the worst possible time, plus having to follow up Casino Royale. It's not as terrible as many people say, but it is definitely a rather weak and underwhelming entry. Thankfully we got Skyfall next, which is a massive improvement and a strong contender for the title of the best film in the series

I agree. I am among those who appreciated quantum of solace. It had more emotional heft for the bond character who was clearly struggling with his grief. His brutality in this film was evident, especially that scene where he nonchalantly waits for one guy to die from the knife wound. That coldness was as close to the ian fleming character as i have seen portrayed on the big screen. In the end, he finally confessed the truth to M: it was all about vengence, not for the security of the country, but to settle a personal vendetta against the people who took away a life he really wanted. This storyline was John Wick before John Wick (sans the puppy).

The biggest reason why this got criticized so much was because of the gap between the two films. People didn't expect a direct sequel, and they certainly didn't remember every little detail. In the beginning when Bond opens the trunk and we see that it's Mr. White, it immediately takes you out of the movie if you don't remember who he is.

The Daniel Craig series of Bond films are the only ones that are a single, long arc of characterization. It’s subtle, and follows Fleming’s character arc from the books, which started with Casino Royale and was supposed to end with You Only Live Twice (from which much of No Time to Die was taken from). This film is very important in that arc, picking up as it does immediately after Casino Royale. I too think it was a strong outing, certainly better than its usually given credit for. While I do think it was less focused than Casino, I believe that Craig’s performance is exemplary, as is Olga Kurylenko’s.

The main reason for the hate for this is that it followed one of the best in the franchise and dared to be mediocre. It also didn't help that the villain went from Le Chifre, master poker player and strategist, to "Chad". There was also no "Priveledged Henchman" in this one. Usually, there's at least one bad guy to provide a boss fight before the Big Bad. The closest thing this one had to it was the General, and Bond didn't even interact with him. She was given a huge backstory for a Bond Girl. Her story could have been a movie of it's own. At the end they just tossed it all away. The press also made a huge deal about the fact that the only part of this movie that came from the source material was the title. The original story was almost too short to be a short story, and was just about a dinner conversation. They didn't mention the fact that none of the Brosnan movies had any connection to the source material, and "The Spy Who Loved Me" only shared the title as well. The original story there was about Bond "Home Aloning" some mafia types in a motel, told form the perspective of the woman caught in the middle who was running the place. Fun Fact: if you read the Credits, Miss Fields first name was Strawberry. Like the Beetles song. Not so fun fact: Daniel Craig lost the tip of a finger filming the axe fight. They were able to sew it back on. I don't know which finger it was, but if you recall the line from Casino Royale... "If all that was left of you was you r little finger..." Looks like she had it exactly backwards.

If you ever go back to the older Bond films, you'll see the parallels with the way Bond gets tied up by the heartstrings in _On Her Majesty's Secret Service_ in a way similar to how he did in _Casino Royale,_ and the result was very similar: an aloof, cool, calculating agent who will never again see "love" as anything but a gadget far more effective than anything Q ever developed for him. Also, you'll notice that 007 isn't the only player with a new face: Q, Felix, M, and a whole host of other characters are all here, and they play the same roles they always have even if the actors are different. It's something that (along with the soundtrack) gives the entire franchise a continuity that's almost impossible to match, no matter which era we're talking about

As someone who has recently watched all 25 Bond films I can confidently say: you should've watched some (or even all) of the older ones first, for some comparison and perspective how the series evolved. But, if you're not up for 20 films (which would provide you with a steady stream of content though; plus, I think even the worst Bond films should be watched at least one time), here are my propositions for (*ehem*) 2 films per actor (with some more mentions though, I couldn't help myself XP; spoiler free, of course): *Sean Connery era:* (Connery is the certified OG. Very dated in some aspects, but great nonetheless) _Goldfinger_ _You Only Live Twice_ honorable mentions: _Doctor No_ - the first Bond ever _From Russia With Love_ - another classic, just improving on the previous one dishonorable mention: _Diamonds Are Forever_ - the last official Connery Bond film (there was one unofficial later, but I didn't bother with it). I don't think it's bad, I just didn't like it much. *George Lazenby era:* (He brought more sensitivity to the character, which I found refreshing, but still in need of some polish.) _On Her Majesty's Secret Service_ - unfortunately Lazenby only had one film. Fortunately it's one of the best. If any Bond film is gonna make you cry, it's this one. *Roger Moore era:* (Roger was definitely the most humorous Bond, which fans find themselves either loving or hating.) _The Spy Who Loved Me_ _For Your Eyes Only_ honorable mentions: _Live And Let Die_ - Moore's debut as Bond. Not my cup of tea, but as I said, every Bond film should be seen at least once. _Moonraker_ - I think other fans would recommend it instead of FYEO, but I enjoyed the latter more. _Octopussy_ - probably the most underrated Bond film dishonorable mentions: _A Man With A Golden Gun_ - Christopher Lee is the villain. That's all I can positively say about it. _A View To A Kill_ - just one too many film for Moore. Still fun, but his age is showing more than before. *Timothy Dalton era:* (Timothy walked so Craig could run. Back in the '80s audience didn't react well to his tough-as-nails potrayal, but he's criminally underrated. My 2nd favourite Bond.) _The Living Daylights_ _License To Kill_ *Pierce Brosnan era:* (Definitely the most handsome Bond, Brosnan is often described as "jack of all trades, master of none". To me, he was the best Bond (stylish, confident, tough, but with a sense of humor), trapped in subpar films.) _Goldeneye_ _Tomorrow Never Dies_ honorable mention: _The World Is Not Enough_ - I didn't really vibe with it, but it has quite original villain, brilliant (though accidental!) sendoff for the original Q and probably the most memorable Bond sigma male moment. dishonorable mention: _Die Another Day_ - objectively it's one of the weakest Bond films. It did took gadgets, futurism and CGI a bit too far (and the writing was often disappointing), but I really liked it, early 2000's cheese. 😁 For Craig I would've recommended: _Casino Royale_ _Skyfall_ >honorable mention: _No Time To Die_ - you're gonna cry. A lot. >dishonorable mention: _Spectre_ - It had some good ideas, but also a metric ton of bad ones. Especially after you watch the older films.

The ‘ hair ‘😂😂 That was some hairpiece he was wearing. That was more sinister than Greene. I think Casino Royale was so good the next was always going to be compared slightly unfavourably to it. Great films

I agree the opening song is awful. The song that got rejected was so good and idk why they didn’t use it. If you’re interested it’s called No Good About Goodbye by Shirley Basey. It’s incredible and should’ve been the title song

They are one of those movies like Waterworld with Kevin Kostner, where they have been exaggerated with the fame of the bad critics and when you see them, it was not so bad and you find them good and very entertaining.

I feel like this movie was not well advertised, and before I watched it, I wasn't sure if I wanted to (even the title sounds a bit strange). It felt like this Craig saga would go on without it, like it's just an interjection. But I still think it was quite good. Personally I also like Pierce Brosnan movies :) I understand people mostly like the more classic Cold War James Bond movies, but for me the Cold War is a bygone era (an era between interesting WWII and so-called "now"), so I always preferred the post-Cold-War ones, i.e. the ones from "now". Plus Pierce Brosnan works are bit more lighthearted than these serious and brutal Daniel Craig's movies, especially "Tomorrow Never Dies" (sort of my fav). Would be great if you took on Pierce Brosnan movies after you finish with Daniel Craig :) Oh and... Pozdrowienia z Polski! 😁

If you never watched Bond Movies then I would suggest you start with the older ones. While the new Daniel Craig Bonds are certainly good they are more a riff on the classic Bond tropes and somewhat toned down so I think you get most of the Daniel Craig movies when you go "hey, I get that reference!" instead of watching them blind.

If you want more Indian movies Here are some suggestions Tumbbad : Mind blowing horror without any cliche ghosts or spirits. It's something beyond fear. Sardar Udham: if there is one Indian movie that deserves Oscar it's this movie. No spoilers just check it out. Andhadhun : One of the best thriller movies from India. Don't read any synopsis or trailer it will ruin it. 3 idiots : Best college life story. Have fun

I've never had any issues with QoS - I certainly enjoy the film, but I think there are a couple of reasons why its considered bad, or weak, compared to the other Craig Bond films. Firstly, it came directly after Casino Royale, which is probably considered the best by most (although I know a lot of people like Skyfall). Secondly, it is admittedly one of the weaker entries, because the others are so strong - not because it is itself bad. That said, I actually find this one more memorable than Spectre, for which the only real standout for me was Christoph Waltz.

The complaints about this movie was more that it was a let down from the great Casino Royale introduction of Craig which got a lot of acclaim. However, this movie wasn't bad, just not the best of the bunch. Craigs run as Bond is seen as one of the strongest overall, right up there with Connery.
