I don't keep sets sealed, nor do I keep boxes. To me Lego is to play with and enjoy hands on. I would feel like I wasted money, especially if I bought retired sets at high prices, for the sets to just sit in their boxes. That is what makes the community fun though, everyone can enjoy it their own way.

I do not buy many sets at all so I always build them when I do. Also you should do a video or see if you can make the christmas fighter from parts/bricklink/bricks and minifigs. Would be cool to see the process

As a LONG time action figure collector, I get it. I want mint boxes, even if I plan to build a set. Mainly, much like it sounds like you've done, you get a set with every intention of building, it gets backlogged, time FLIES by, and suddenly that set has become rare and expensive! Done it with many figures. I'm not a boxed collector, yet, I have an impressive boxed collection. Like you said, do what makes you happy! Life is short, so enjoy it!

I discovered my passion for Legos along with my kids , I was skeptical at first because the sets are expencive for a toy but there isnohing like Christams time and watching my children rejoyce every time they get new Legos and the hours of play they get with it. I did help them build some of the bigger sets (like barracuda bay) but never actually bought anything directly for myself. My husband on the other hand grew up with Lego Castle/Pirates/cowboys and all the classics 80/90 s sets. The only Lego I ever had as a kid were 2 bionicle sets and some loose pieces ahah

It's amazing that you're collecting all different themes. I started collecting Lego Star Wars about 10 years after it launched, around 2009. It began with the minifigs but then i fell in love with building the sets. Interestingly I moved when the pandemic started and when a lot of people were getting back into lego I was staying with friends and had my collection in storage. I ended up buying a house in late 2020, and after unpacking my lego collection it took up the majority of the finished basement. I continued to collect all of the Star Wars sets, and already had quite a few that were sealed. I'd say about 40 percent of my collection is sealed now. I know a lot of people resent investing in lego, but personally i find it as enjoyable as collecting. over the last 4-5 years I've started investing more, buying multiple of the same sets. Out of my entire collection / investments, by far my favourite is the sealed 10123 cloud city set, i paid 1100$ Canadian around 2010, and I've never been able to bring myself to open it. Unfortunately the reality being that lego is so expensive now though has forced me to invest more in order to afford to collect.i honestly regret opening any of the sets i purchased on the secondary market. I do want to continue to collect as well as invest, but in terms of building and displaying the collection, space is always my biggest concern. Even the sealed sets take up a lot of room. Krennic's Shuttle I actually do think is worth building as it displays very well. The box itself just isn't impressive nor driving nostalgia for me like the others do. I mostly enjoy having a sealed collection knowing the display I can make in the future, share it with family later on, or just for the cool box art. Sealed Scooby Doo and Monster Fighters are probably my favorites I have.

I had two DS2 sets. I sold one and keeping the other one sealed. I bought the pieces for the build along with securing plenty of the 40th Anniversary bricks to make a few of them. That's an option for you, if you don't want to open the sealed copy. The cheapest Bricklink price is $42 + tax/shipping. My cost was only half that, although typically piecing it together will run about that current market price, if not more, if you do want the complete set with the 40th brick. Bricklinking the pieces come out right now about $40 excluding tax/shipping.

What does it say about your lego addiction when you've got unopened boxes around. There's a certain grade on a scale somewhere that you qualify for. Anyway, in my pile, i have star wars ucs and mos eisley, sequel sets i got because they had not appreciated, and friends. My partner is worse though, she just buys them for some collecting itch without any plans on opening them. See rivendell that's only gotten to bag one, a few creator expert sets, and her half of the dominion wave. Anyway, im into dinosaurs atm. First time i've actually loved the moulded ones. Fun.!!
