My friend had the same experience with his book! The copy editing was so bad that he recruited a bunch of friends and family to redo everything after the publisher messed it all up. After watching this video, my friend said, "This is painfully familiar, especially about the cover."

Your work is great. As a former professor, your reaction to your book deal is very similar to my reaction to tenure. It was only once I focused on the things that mattered that I realized it has much less meaning than we think it does. So I quit. I’m glad you found your voice. I hope to find mine soon.

That "You're A Scientist" CYOA book was really well made. There was a trend there for a while of people churning those out, and so many of them sounded promising, then fell short in execution. I'm a little shocked at how little your original book deal paid you. That's kind of awful. I'm a bit jealous of whoever goes to the little book deposits though. Best of luck on whatever comes next!

Other examples are people create an entire biological ecosystem on a Planet or a undiscovered hidden isolated island they just discovered. As if they are documenting the environment, animals around them. If done right it can be so funny or awe inspiring or creepy... Whichever you choose.
