At 6min 44sec in I had to get up and check on my kids lol. Swear I was about to shout at both of them for being up this late, and it wasn't until after I saw they were both asleep that I realized it had to have been yours(kids/grandkids) in the background. Can't wait to try this rig down here in South Florida. Caught a nice 4.5lb bass last week. Saw bunches of them on bed, and none of them wanted anything to do with my soft plastics. I was reeling bait right past them and out of an hour fishing one finally took the bait.

Im 62 and was using a version of this in the early 80's. I actually used a split shot. I used a barrel swivel about 15 inches up and my split shot above that, hop it off the bottom like you would a jig. You could feel 2 separate ticks..when the weight come up and when the worm snapped up behind it. I won many many tourneys with it ..day and night.

Randy have you tried taking the piece of tooth pick you were not using after pegging the weight and shove it up the center of the worm by the hook. Gives it a little neutral buoyancy to allow the worm to move more naturally in the water.
@danham33443 жыл бұрын
Yup, a guy that had been bass fishing the San Diego area for 40 years taught me to sink the rest of the toothpick in the worm. 😊👍

Great idea, I’ve been fishing this rig for decades, always called it the mojo rig, there’s a cylindrical weight called the mojo weight that works really well, peg it with a rubber stopper. I’ve never thought of using the toothpick in the worm, thanks for the tip, I’ll try it at St Clair this year!

That's a good spring pre spawn bait. Back in the day it was called a Mojo rig. 4 inch French fry worm works great as well. Killer bait on lake of the ozarks. 👍

Hi Randy, that is called a mojo rig. We used rubber skirts to hold it in place. Split shot is a split shot from the 70's in CA.

Thanks Randy, your comments on the wind at the end were most interesting to me. Southerly wind = good jerk bait fishing, Northerly wind shuts it down. I wonder if you could share your thumb rules on weather, wind and seasons?

Thanks Randy. I remember when it got its name because we actually used a split-shot. Used to work well in those ultra clear San Diego lakes and big bass would eat em too.

This was one of the best ways we fished the clear water back in the day on Southern California reservoirs. We used actual split shots and did quite well. They are really good rigs with a Zoom Trick Worm to hold it off the bottom. Great vid, brought back good memories!

I used to use the split shot rig when I was a little kid in the 90s Southtown Had hand poured reapers and I tied those up on there. These days now that I’m older I pour my own reapers and put those on it. Time flies.

Did you watch dustin connell's win at redcrest? He was jerkbaiting brush with active target. Very interesting watching how the retrieve he had to use trigger the fish changed subtly throughout the day. He also had to stay way back from the brush or they wouldn't bite at all.

You are an absolute gold mine when it comes to Bass fishing information. I love your videos and you have been a huge help to me preparing myself for the spring here in Northern Illinois. The video that got me started with you was the tennis elbow video. My father in law suffered from that pretty bad last year because of fishing and your video has helped him a ton. Thank you for that. Between yourself, Matt and Tim from TacticalBassin, and Brian Latimer, I have no reasons to watch any other fishing videos on KZbin. Cheers on getting close to 20k subscribers. Hey randy I started using this rig back in the early 80s the worms we used and I still use to this day were called green wienies ( bought them 10 lbs at a time) the only thing I changed up is I switched to a piece of rubber band pulled into the sinker instead of the toothpick, I'm still killing them with it today.

I grew up on a river and that is a similar rig that I use on lakes today, nonetheless, i use a split shot up about 2 foot from hook. I would cast up the river and let it go with the current to the place that I want to go. So I try tomatch the speed of the current, so sometimes a smaller weight or a heavy one. I used to use the toothpick before too. Great tip!
