Thank you for doing this one , I really need to learn this bait and what to rig on it , I’m getting ready to go to a lake up north of me that they say does well on a scrounger rig

When I first came across a chatterbait I thought it was a newer version of the scrounger head jig. They both look quite similar with that blade on top of the jighead.

Thanks for the tips i appreciate them . One thing i learned on the water is most fishermen tell you there using one thing and using the other. I always tell people the truth of what im using because their is ten ways to use it and they still have to learn even with the rite bait. I love helping people and love how you help everyone with the tips and tricks , so thanks again Randy and God Bless you bud

Great Video Randy! I love Scrounger fishing, it seems to produce Big fish when nothing else will. It's also the MOST fickle bait to rig and fish. If it's not rigged perfectly straight it's junk. If the bill isn't straight I won't fish it, sometimes you can take them off and boil them to get them to straighten up. The bait naturally wants to rise off the bottom and most people fish them too fast and too heavy of line. I usually use 10 or 12lb Fluoro... you're not fishing heavy cover or grass so there's no need for heavy lines unless your dialing it in to get it to run shallower or slower....like you would a crankbait. The best trailers I have found for Scroungers is a Jerky J and a Tremor Shad. The Jerky J is stiffer and gives a natural swim and the Tremor Shad is softer and gives a snake like action, one school will often like one and not the other so I usually have both rigged up.I never liked a paddle tail, the ones I tried get too much stuff going on...like putting a paddle tail on a Chatterbait, the head and the trailer are off sync and don't run right. I'll have to try the Spark Shad and see how it does. One trick when rigging these IMO is to try not to have ANY plastic below the jig, you want the bait streamlined with the bottom of the jig. It looks like you won't have enough hook bite to catch the fish but they choke this thing and it's rare to miss a strike. Once you get one rigged right super glue it to the head and then run a toothpick through sideways at the bottom of the hook bend where it starts to bend and snip off the excess and it will last a LOT longer...like a month of heavy fishing and catching.

Offshore fishing is something I need to do more of. I’m a bank beater for sure. The main lake I fish has some really deep spots and in the summer and winter the bass go to the depths of the lake.

I have been wondering for some time now; is a Scrounger with a skirt tied on, a good alternative to a Chatterbait type jig? I caught bass with a green pumpkin skirt tied on pretty good, but I am interested in the majority of opinions on the circuits. Thank you Randy.

Great video randy, I started using scroungers two years ago and finally figured out how to catch them with it last year. I had experience actually throwing into schooling shad and I would catch the bass that were surrounding the school.

I literally went and bought a 3/8 scrounger just to try out because of this video. But for some reason once I get it out of the water I have terrible line twists. Any help?

I love fishing the smaller Scrounger's around boat docks. Stick a smaller swimbait on it and cast it around docks or skip it under the docks.

I'm a little old school. Like you, I can fish offshore but I dont like it. I mostly don't like it because I'm not good at it. This helps...if it works in the more shallow, hydrilla-filled lakes of FL. Thanks, as always, for the tips!

What’s the difference between this and just a megabass magdraft with a bellyweight hook or flashy swimmer? Besides size .....
@mattquinlan46293 жыл бұрын
From my experience that front bill (scrounger head) gives off a ton more action than a regular magdraft does. Best of luck to you!

Anyone that excels to your level in the sport is surely a well rounded angler. It’s easy for us to assume you “don’t” fish offshore since it’s not what we see you do but I have no doubt you’re very skilled at it. I have NEVER fished a scrounger but am always open to new styles and tricks. Thanks Randy for a fantastic channel!

I’ve never fished one either. I’ve thought about it, thought about buying some to try but I’d have to learn how to fish em first for sure.
@bhmsupra3 жыл бұрын
In normal fashion, the scrounged lip discoloration and deformation keeps me from buying them. It’s the only bait I’ve owned that basically expires just sitting in the tackle box within a year. I throw the willow-vibe on and it’s just as good and has a metallic lip. Vibrates harder and keeps its shape.
