My Secret to Finding Vinyl Samples // Making a Sample Beat on the MPC ONE

I’m giving away my secrets! Let’s take it back to the old school boombap method of beat making on the MPC ONE! I am using samples only for this LOFI HIPHOP beat. I found the sample from a Japanese record by Junko Ohashi. I am chopping the sample, recording the bassline, and creating a drum pattern using nothing but the MPC One from Akai pro.
I am going through my method of searching for samples on a vinyl record. This method can be used before the needle ever touches the record. Make sure that you take advantage of this trick next time you are in the record store!

Hey man, your initial tip about looking at a piece of vinyl and looking at the grooves took me right back to when I started crate digging in the early 80s. We didn't have shops with listening booths or portable turntables powered by batteries. It was a ton of guess work. Mostly educated guesses based on the year, the line-up, the haircuts of the band (afros usually a bonus point), what label it was on, and yes, as you said, checking out the vinyl and looking for darker areas that often designated drum breaks or breakdowns. I honestly haven't thought about that for so long as most of my crate digging is online now and I get to hear the record, research it, ask about it in forums, check WhoSampled, etc etc. People have it sooooooo much easier nowadays dude lol Thanks for the memory and the video.

Hi Ryan. May I ask if you connect your Stanton turntable directly to your MPC one, or does it first need to go through an external pre-amp? I'm trying to figure this out. I have a pioneer turntable with an external pre-amp, but I'm in the market for a turntable with a pre-amp built in. Thanks for letting me know.

Yes, the Stanton T.92 is what I use and I plug it directly into the MPC as it has a built-in pre-amp. I also have the Audio Technica LP120, which I am a big fan of and also will plug directly into the MPC. I hope this helps and I appreciate you watching. Thanks!
