Sandy, you forgot the most important thing: Balls! Countless times I've seen groups of players just forgetting to bring balls because everybody thought someone else was bringing them. In a tournament is not that important. Although some tournaments at the lower levels ask players to bring their own balls. Always bring a set with you! My bag, or rather 2 bags usually, consist of the follow: - 3-6 rackets. New friends are always coming to play so I always have a few extra rackets to share with them. All very different so they can try them. - Overgrips, a lot of them for convenience. I prefer the white tacky ones. White just give me more grip versus other colored overgrips, and it is easier to know when to change them. - My tennis shoes are also kept separately. I use Asics Gel-padel Pro, they work wonders specially on outside courts which tend to have more sand come through the grass. - Balls. Usually a set of 4-8 used balls if they are still good and always 6 New Balls. - Towel. always a must. - Food: Banana, Sugary treats, Chocolate. - Water or other form of hydration. At least a liter. - Medical Tape. In case of blisters or cuts that might happen. - Compression Bandage. Just in case. Always check with your doctor after an injury. - Head Protector Cloth Tape. Like I mention, I share my rackets with friends, so some extra protection is never a bad thing. - Wrist bands. Keep the sweat away. - Cap and Sunglasses. - Jumping speed rope. For warmups - Powerball Wrist and Forearm Trainer. For warmups Unusual items I also bring with me: - Glass Squeeze. This is great especial when playing very early morning and their might be morning dew. - Blue paper towel. Usually found at Car shops. Go hand in hand with the Squeeze. - Tungsten Putty. This one is usually used for Wood stock cars. It is great, along with some cloth tape, to change the balance and weight of the rackets. Cheaper than the weight strips and harder for it to fall off. - Rock Climbing Eco Chalk. Great way to dry the overgrips and the hands. Just watch the eyes. - Bandage scissors. Safer to carry and helps with cutting overgrips and tapes. - Paracord Cord. In case the cord in the racket snaps and a quick repair is needed. - Bluetooth Speaker. Bring on the music! - Tripod and selfie stick PLUS wide angle cellphone lens. For recording. The wide angle lens is great to get just a little bit of the court. Great for when space is limited behind the court. So yeah, a lot of items, but I'm usually the one in my group of players that takes care of things. At the bare minimum, the racket, balls, and water is all one needs. Just plan things ahead and be sure to have an overgrip in good condition before playing. Always warm up doing something other than hitting plans with players alone. Stretching is a must. Good Video Sandy! Keep it up! 45K now!!

Wow, a lot of this I wouldn't even have thought of. Never heard of that chalk spray, but that sounds very useful indeed. Gummi bears and the like wouldn't work for me, as I would just eat the whole bag before the match. But just getting a proper padel bag would be a good start for me. For some reason I only have a tennis bag and never thought of getting a dedicated padel bag. My secret weapon is SUNGLASSES. We play outdoors and I have gotten used to just using sunglasses most of the time as hitting overheads against the sun is very problematic for me. The main downside is that you should either use them or not use them. Taking them on and off whenever you switch sides will mess up your rhythm in my experience. And of course, a lot of people just don't like playing with sunglasses as they impair your vision somewhat. I can understand that, because I didn't use to play with sunglasses in tennis, but in padel there is so much overhead play that I feel like I have to do it and it works fine.

Water: I always carry a stainless steel bottle filled with fresh/cool water. Excellent seal to prevent spills, keeps the water cool, and serves as a reserve if there’s no water is being provided (which sometimes happen, meh).

Warm-up: Resistance bands are good, but in the end I find them optional. You can still warm the rotator cuff without them, and the most important thing is to jog 2-5 minutes and ideally get to touch the ball with your partner (when there’s a spot available). Having said that, bands are easy to carry so why not right?
@ThePadelSchool

Yeah, I find external and internal rotation tricky without a band - like with most of the shoulder rotators - there are ways, but the band is so easy and small.

Padel trainers: fully agree I do the same thing. Which shoes is a whole different conversation, but I liked yours from what can I see. My impression is that most padel brands cater an amateurs/beginners’ level by making clunky and heavy shoes with a lot of support which doesn’t really make sense.

Stretching is a must along with some warmups. Do this before going into the court. A few of minutes of stretching and warming up is more than enough. Then take 5 minutes of hitting the ball with a partner. Be sure to practice all shot types, specially those that require you to do some stretching. Smashes, low defense, bandejas. Don't over do them.
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 3 жыл бұрын
The warm up physically (and on court) is to prepare your body (and mind) to play your best. If you feel it is not important enough in the recreational matches then it is your decision...but a warm up is recommended.

Nutrition: IMHO, there’s no need for cereal bars or bananas, you should be okay to start a match with just your regular meals. I say this because cereal bars in particular are very high in calories which is problematic. Also, the electrolyte tablets are sub-optimal because the sodium are potassium levels are way too low. So, in my quest for simplicity, I’ve found this one thing to work: I always carry a little special case with dried cranberries, and a few cranberries every 4-6 games keeps my energy levels steady throughout the match. A full load will last 2-3 matches, and they are easy to replenish. Never tried the Haribos though, but I’d think dried cranberries are better ;-) Dates are probably as good, but I just love the cranberries. Just my 2 cents!
