I started one last month ( • My First Fragrance Tra... ) because I wanted to enjoy what I have for a while, maybe finish a few bottles and get through a low / no buy. Fragrance trays really tap into the current trend of #underconsumption and this week, I tell you how I got on with my first ever fragrance tray, including what I'm tweaking for next month.
The fragrances that I choose in this video are effectively my top 10 perfumes for September that I want to wear more and enjoy (*Note: 5ml Sana Jardin Venus of Verbena was gifted to me by the brand a few months ago). This is very much a summer-autumn, transitional, back to work fragrance tray, so hopefully these fragrances are what I find myself wanting to reach for in September.
I will spend a month with this new perfume tray selection and see whether a fragrance tray is something that I want to do in the long term or not... I'm still undecided... Find out how much I wear each fragrance and if my thoughts on them change in a month's time.

Hi Claire! I don’t do trays but this time I made a virtual shelf on Fragrantica for the fragrances I want to wear in September. Mostly apple, quince and tea scents. I’m not ready for the heavy scents yet! 🙂 I wore Terracotta last week and I still love this one a lot! I saw they are coming out with a Edt version of it. I hope it’s good!

Terracotta Le Parfum has always been an edt, it’s just that its name confuses people. It’s getting repackaged in a Les Légendaires bottle, that’s all.

After watching your video I bought 10ml version of Girl by P.W. (as it was ridiculously cheap) and it's funny because it smells like Vintage Radio by Lattafa (dupe of Initio Paragon). I had smelled VR a month ago and it's really the same on my skin but Lattafa has a decent silliage for a longer time. I don't know Paragon but it would be funny if Initio was inspired by Girl 😆. I'm happy with my 10ml Girl as 100ml VR would be too much for me.

When I bought my 100ml I think it was £12 😂 it was ridiculously cheap! Thanks for letting me know that it's similar to these two! I've not tried them, but I can easily go to try Paragon, so I will see what I think 😊

Have you noticed when it’s the best time to wear the crystal noir? I just can’t seem to find that something that everyone loves about it. I live where we have no seasons other than hot or very hot. I tried wearing it at night with the AC blasting and maybe just once, I found it nice. I just keep trying. 😅

I think it's better suited to warm weather but not hot. So 20oC ish. It is quite a thick feeling fragrance because of the cashmeran, it can be a lot! I can imagine in very hot weather it would be a big no. Maybe you just don't like it? That's entirely a possibility too! 🥰

My August tray was all about coconutty/ ylang-ylang/ tiaré/ monoï perfumes : Songes Annick Goutal, , Castadiva Nobile 1942, Rose Arabian Almond from Widian, La Route d'Emeraude from Isabey . Happy Saturday Claire. I don’t do trays and try to just wear whatever moves me but this summer has been challenging. We had a pretty wet spring then it got hotter than hades. We had a slight reprieve about a week ago then back to the inferno. So my choices are pretty much dictated by the weather when going out and wearing whatever I want when staying in.🤷🏽‍♀️. I love your choices and how you choose. Maybe I’ll do better in the fall.

Wow, what do you wear when it's insanely hot? I'm intrigued! It got up to 38oC in France and that was A LOT for me... I am much happier around 26 🤣 I found even normally long lasting fragrances last only 3-4-5 hours when it was really hot. 😱

Well, it's complicated... Meteorological autumn starts on 1st September in the UK, but other systems use other dates, like the US system. 🤷‍♀️

I always organize my perfume tray by season; however, my off-season fragrances are stored in a dark closet. So when I get the itch to start switching things around, I can easily get a sniff of some fragrances to see if I (and the weather) are ready. Right now I am still experiencing hi-heat summer temps, so while I am ready...the temperature is telling me something different!!

I had Versace’s Crystal Noir edt. it had a note in it and I don’t know what it was, but it didn’t work for me. But I do love the EDP. I have the 100ml bottle of that… And instead of sharing, my daughter got her own, so we’re well stocked for a while. Lol.

🤣 I think the EDT has been reformulated a few years back. I did try the EDP a few years ago too. I actually got my bottle as a reward for filling in a few surveys! I thought it was an excellent reward! 😂 I think the cashmeran really pops in the EDT, it might be that you might not enjoy. I can't really remember whether it's as prominent in the EDP. 🤔

I don't know what it is, but I wore it a week and a half ago and all I could smell was the underlying feel of Alien. Then I wore it yesterday and I didn't get that as much, but still a hint, so 🤷‍♀️ 🤣 I'd love to know what others think. 🥰

It’s great to hear that your first perfume tray was a success. It’s no surprise, given how methodical and meticulous you are as a person (just my impression). I tend to be a bit chaotic and struggle to stick to a routine, let alone a perfume tray. I really enjoyed this video! I can’t wait to pull out my transitional… strike that,😂 heavy hitters (vanilla, patchouli, orientals) and start wearing them. I agree that Tom Ford Orchid Soleil and Versace Crystal Noir are fantastic transitional scents. I have a decant of Terracotta that I need to pull out and test again. Also, I love that #underconsumption is shown as the first hashtag.🧡

I think I need more variety so changing it up a little will hopefully help! I am for definitely in a "use what I have" mood, I've not bought anything for a few months now, I really do just want fewer bottle of fragrance in my life as I was feeling overwhelmed earlier in the year. Hey Claire! I don’t only wear what’s on my tray. I choose 10-12 fragrances for my tray which leaves me room to wear other fragrances for the month. Maybe that’s something you may want to try as well. 💜

I'm thinking of getting MFK 724 for this month of September (for my birthday). I think it is safe fragrance to go to work and it has excellent longevity and sillage for freshie type of fragrance. I like the simplicity of the smell that brings the sense of cleanliness. It is also chic and professional. Kenzo world sounds chic and professional too. Maybe i will try and give a sniff. I think to have different fragrances for everyday during the week is a brilliant idea. You may also add few fragrances in the tray based on the morning weather of the day or your mood upon waking up from sleep. I do like tea notes in fragrances. It is calming and refreshing too in warm weather. I love my Wuloong Cha by Nishane. Lunar Dust by Mabelle O'Rama sounds interesting. Thanks for the video.

Yes I agree, 724 is a clean one, a lot of FK's fragrances are. He also formulated Kenzo World. I need to go try Wulong Cha, I keep hearing about it and having people recommend it. I bet it's in my local store. Lunar Dust has done very well I think! Mabelle O'Rama got the British fragrance awards in two categories and she's only marketed two fragrances so far! Both lovely! 🥰

I had to give my September tray some thought over the weekend: YSL Libre Le Parfum Ralph Lauren Romance Intense Fine’ry midnight cafe (black opium dupe I prefer over the original) Fine’ry Mysterious Nomad (maybe Byredo gypsy water dupe) MM Replica Autumn Vibes - this is my challenge scent. I can’t decide if I like it or not. I was using it in August to tone down 2 scents that I felt too powdery or more spring floral. It worked well mixed like that. It’s just on its own…idk.

September already?! And the mythic Lunar Dust rises again! I love looking at your Sept selections. Thinking about the San Jardin heliotrophe, I think, is tricky one and easily an overload 🤧. Putting my Summer tray was fun. I'm a bit tired of it, but here in late summer throughout Sept, it's so hot. Then it becomes cold and rainy overnight 😅 🤔so I'll need to have a think about what's up next. I'm already pulling out some richer fragrances, though.

I was definitely ready to switch my tray last month, I'm hoping that this month feels a little more free! I actually wonder how much people filming tray videos actually wear the fragrances on them from their comments on my videos, anyway, I'm sticking to mine for now and seeing how it goes. 😂 The weather is incredibly variable here, sunny and warm one minute and cold and wet the next. Hi Claire, did you ever try Guess Seductive Noir? It's an aromatic vanilla flavour which I love and it layers so well! A cheapy but it smells sophisticated and noir yet it's office friendly. Longevity could be better though.

For me tray is to give attention to some neglected pieces & put them on a spot light, perhaps finish some samples or bottles, but not necessarily limit myself to only those 😉 hope you’ll find your sweet spot ☺️

I'm glad your perfume tray is working for you Claire, particularly with your holiday packing! I couldn't do a monthly tray. I'm too fickle and want something different every day, plus I'm obsessive about keeping my fragrances in their boxes in a chest of drawers at all times 😂 Metal Wave is lovely isn't it? I got a decant recently but waiting for it to be a bit cooler to actually wear it. I'm looking forward to using some slightly heavier more long lasting fragrances this autumn. Yes I agree, I wore L'occitane Verveine a few days and I found myself repeatedly respraying... An hour or two and it was gone! Same but less frequently with le jardin de Monsieur Li, that's a 4-5 hours. I'm not sure whether I will keep going with the tray, I did feel like I was itching to try wear something else for the last 5-10 days. That's why I've altered it. We'll see how it goes... Metal Wave is really wearable! It suits whatever mood I'm in and it works well for work. Enjoy the sunshine ☺️ Thanks for watching 🥰

Me too! Perfumes in their boxes and inside drawers or the closet. I’ve tried having a perfume tray but still always end up picking something from the drawer. I don’t even use the samples I buy because spraying from the big bottle just feels different. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes I don't think I could have set choices for a month. I'm very random and the weather is all over the place 🤣. August yes definitely wasn't the hottest. You smelt amazing in France. Alluring Fig is such a good one, very fresh and green. September, yes heat waves and endless rain. Orchid Solei is one you definitely love. A good choice. Terracotta 😍 yes it's lovely, it is a bit golden isn't it. Crystal Noir was an ok one both very happy ones so far. Ah yes I don't know what they are called either. Cadrene was a pleasant one. Ah Kenzo world wasn't a big love for me 😂. Plicè or however you spell it was a really pleasant one. I love you've picked one you're not a lover of. Girl is definitely an unusual beast isn't it. I have to be in the mood for it. A really good one. Yes you're a big Metal Wave fan, I struggled with that one. I'm sure you smell fab in it. Lunar Dust is really nice isn't it, it's a very different iris one for me. And yes them modern molecular notes are so well used. You'll have a fab smelling quite a fresh September. I'll be wearing who knows 😂

I wore Venus of Verbena today and actually I am enjoying it much more than I thought it might. I think maybe it suits cooler weather. ☺️ Kenzo World is something I still really enjoy, I find it reassuring that whilst my taste has moved on over the last 4 years, there are still fragrances in my collection that I had back then, that I still love. I only have Terracotta because of you. Thank you for the sample of it. ☺️ I don't know whether I will continue with a tray, if I don't feel so restricted this month with the changes then it might be a goer, otherwise, I think I will go back to my chaotic choosing each morning 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰 I need to smell Lunar Dust on you ☺️ I think you suit iris and woods.

Terracotta is lovely! Oh I've not done a fragrance tray before, so I wasn't sure how to review what I've already worn! I did stick to my tray completely in August 🙈 but I am not sure I want to restrict myself to it completely for September. We'll see! Thanks for watching 🥰

Hello Claire, you are keeping up with a monthly tray I see, I might try too, Mon to Fri seems an excellent option but it's true that there haven't been many hot days in the UK in August, so my choices would have been languishing on their tray, even my usually much worn Eau de Rochas. Yay to your wearing Tea Tonique on holidays, by chance I've worn it this week too, it's been one of my favorites for years, fresh but it has body as you noted.

Yes! Tea Tonique has been a lovely discovery! I really thought it was quite a basic tea and citrus but no, absolutely not! I really enjoyed it 😊 what's Eau de Rochas like? Is that the orange citrus fragrance that I saw advertised a lot when I was in France??? I hope having a tray only Mon- Fri keeps me more entertained, I have to say I was itching to reach for something else by the end of the month! We will see if it's for me or not going forward. Yes, the original in the blue box (there are different flankers) citrussy with a mineral effect like water on hot stone, very unique, it lasts well with a light patchouli base, it's very popular in France to this day, a true classic and not expensive.

Pharrell Williams GIRL was one that I had a small bottle of… It didn’t work for me so I sold it. But it was hard to sell because you’re right. I find it quite unique.

It's not like any other fragrance I've tried, especially in celebrity lines. I love that it was marketed as unisex, but the bottle design is such a poor choice. I really think it might have done better in different packaging and perhaps with a different name! 🥰

Very interesting and original smelling choices on your tray! Versace Chrystal Noir used to be my signature evening scent- the most mysterious and alluring and a bit gothic. I should try to repurchase it soon. Perfect for Fall. I am working with a limited budget for perfume. So I am giving some Bath and Body Works body sprays a go. I like Dahlia (much prefer it to Good Girl), Petal Parade, Dark Kiss (mysterious incense rose), and Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte. Still use Beautiful Magnolia from the summer. Good morning Claire. Thanks for giving me the inspiration for a perfume tray. Mine is a weekly one which I’ve been doing for a few weeks now, and I’m changing it today. Checked the weather, (first day of Spring here) so I’ll have a variety that will work in mild and warm days. @dr.claire.perfume it's light, but I can still smell it throughout the day if I over spray. It's a very soft marshmallow with a hint of orange and maybe a bit of chocolate, it's very smooth and comforting. Do you have a favorite Honey fragrance?

I don't think it's listed, but I really like the light honeyed feel of Jasmin Des Anges. I also really enjoy the honey of Theodoros Kalotinis Tobacco Maniac and also Floris Honey Oud. For super sweet honey, I have Scandal by Night too. ☺️

I had a bottle of Dior's Jasmin Des Anges and gifted it to a sister. Maybe my nose wasn't trained well enough to pick up honey in that fragrance. I really enjoyed your Zodiac perfume recommendations. You are very talented and intelligent. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world.

Thanks Claire - great selection for September! Yes a more relaxed tray is better and it has to be working for you not against you, Mon to Fri sounds good - as does a weekly tray. This month will be- Chanel no 5 edp (need to use it more) Miss Dior edp (again need to use it more) Eau de Lancaster (cheap from Tkmaxx and apparently a favourite of Grace Kelly, who I love 🥰) Zara - Orange Honey (I’d hoped it was a dupe for Jo Malone nectarine blossom and honey, it’s a distant cousin, but lovely in its own right, very easy to wear) Abercrombie and Fitch - Naturally Fierce, a very easy to wear coconut scent. I’ll swap out any I’m not using or if I get the urge to wear something else. Have a good week Claire 😘

I did wear Chanel no5 a few days back cheekily and I really enjoyed it! I never thought I'd be a no5 wearer but wow, I'm a convert 😂 Which miss Dior version do you have? Is it the 2021? I've never heard of Eau de Lancaster!!! I'm looking that one up! Zara I need to try more of, we just got a new store in Leeds that is absolutely huge! @@dr.claire.perfume I like no 5 and have many childhood memories associated with it, but often I’m not in the mood. There is something special about it not gonna lie haha. The l’eau is more modern and citrus and I like that too. Yes the Miss Dior is the 2021 version. It’s very sweet and fruity but can still be day time I think. I haven’t been in the new Zara in Leeds, must go! Eau de Lancaster is a bit 1970’s (chypre) but it’s fresh and I just wanted to try it. I’m not disappointed and in hot weather it would be superb. Yeah I think it’s good to get some out especially to prompt me to use them but not sure how successful it is 😂 xx

What a beautiful selection of fragrances! My favourites would be orchid soleil, terracotta and versace crystal noire, although i think they would be equally appropriate for August too. Do you have any suggestions for extremely hot weather? I didn't enjoy my Burberry goddess during my holidays. It was so hot that I think the fragrance just evaporated. Now that it's getting cooler I can smell it again!

Thank you ❤️ I was reaching for Alluring Fig in the really hot weather but it's hard isn't it because even that only lasted 4-5 hours. I feel for people in warmer climates... Tea Tonique was also only about 3-4 hours when it was really hot. I think sweeter, denser vanillas can be a bit much in really hot weather. Did you try something like Chance Eau Fraîche? 🥰

I love taking samples and exploring fragrance when I am holiday. I get very attached to the memories associated with a holiday scent. “Terracotta” really suits the end of summer. It takes on a melancholic quality as autumn approaches. I love Chypres in the fall. I also like to wear aromatics as Autumn approaches. Enjoy your fragrance tray. I love the range of fragrances you’ve chosen.
