I know you said about it being a niche journal that not everyone would necessarily have use for, but it’s nice to see that people do set up journals for specific projects or hobbies instead of just including everything in their one bullet journal. I have been meaning to set up one for a video game I want to make and this has reminded me about that!
@joanwaldner12803 жыл бұрын
I haven’t Stone since I was a child and not a very good one but my mother was a seamstress as a hobby and could create anything from a simple dress to a complex wedding dress. However I am in the middle of a large project and there were several of your pages that I felt that I could convert to my needs. It is a beautiful sewing journal as I said coming from a family that sewed. Absolutely beautiful and well organized complex yet simple. And I think your body chart will separate you from your body and show that there is no fear anymore that your body is separate yet beautiful.

Perfect timing! I've recently got into sewing and I've been eying this gorgeous notebook I've not touched for a few months (too scared to use, the usual!) And this is such a great place to start! For me, a page i would deffo add in is a glossary that I can easily flip to and add to (with diagrams/scraps of fabric with examples) bc the biggest barrier I have is understanding the pattern instructions. (I've literally spent 5 minutes reading the same instruction over and over again, holding the pattern pieces together and googling the jargon until I'm like "ooohhhh" 🤦♀️ )

For measurements, you might want to consider the distance from groin to waist and the length of your torso as well. I know, as a person who has a really long torso, that both of these measurements have come up when purchasing/making pants (especially high-waisted ones) and buying a one-piece swimsuit. I really love this idea though, and as I am getting back into sewing and into quilting for the first time I would really like to make one of these!
@ludmila_983 жыл бұрын
I never thought about having a sewing bullet journal but that’s kinda genius! I’ve always wanted to learn how to sew, I tried my best (a few times), but maybe someday I will finally do it correctly lol And about body dysmorphia and eating disorders, I definitely know what it’s like as someone who went through it as a teen and is finding a way out of it yet again, so you’re not alone and I hope you have a good support system and know that we’re rooting for you 😘
@wolfravenloft15513 жыл бұрын
Not sure if someone already mentioned this but a torso measurement could be handy if, for instance, you'd like to make a jump/playsuit or something like that. But it is also handy in a more general sense so that you know what length you need for a shirt to be cropped on you etc. I'm super curious about your sewing journey but seeing how amazingly detailed you are with all your other creative outlets I'm sure your handmade wardrobe will be wonderful

And I keep thinking of going there and get more skills in sewing BUT I just never do. Right now I'm also dealing with an ED (binge eating) and body dismorphia (in my mind I'm always smaller than in real life), so I don't even want to go there because I feel disgusting in my body. But it's a process, right? With the right help everyone can get better. I am sorry you went through and ED. Please remind yourself today (and everyday) that you are beautiful, in and out ♥

Thank you for the beautiful video! I keep a sewing journal too - as I make ~80 % of my clothes myself I find it very useful to take notes! Mine is a square A&O Morning Sun notebook (choice totally inspired by your reading journal) and the setup is super simple: an index, a yearly sewing plan list (Alistair method for soft scheduling, months in columns), a project kanban board and project pages. Sometimes I like to add an inspirational spread where I print photos of garments and styles that speak to me at the moment. My tips for anyone planning a sewing journal: don't set up project pages beforehand, so you can vary the details according to garment type. Use washi tape to attach fabric swatches, so you can always remove them temporarily to feel the fabric or just to make it easier to draw on the other side of the page. Vary the placement of swatches on the page to make your notebook lie more flat. And don't worry about aesthetics too much! :] Thanks again Elizabeth. Happy sewing!

And I definitely understand the struggles with numbers/body dysmorphia. I’m pregnant and it has been very hard to ignore how much my body has changed (even if I know it’s important). I’ve definitely had to take a step back from numbers for awhile to keep myself content with how I am and not how I wish I could be. Thanks for being so open and honest, it’s very refreshing. Like all your journals, this one is beautiful. Hobby journals, with project set up layouts, are so helpful. Your story from when you were a child brought back memories of when I used to spend hours with the Fashion Plates toy to design all my dream outfits...because what was the late 90s to your childhood, was the dawn of the eighties to mine. I'm working on a new gardening journal, and not only this journal, but your GORGEOUS olive branch layout in your 2021 journal has really been an inspiration. Thank you so much. (I replied to a comment below that you might want an under bust/bra band area measurement for certain types of garments...not being a garment maker (I stick to sewing paper, pillows, curtains and the occasional Halloween costume embellishment:-) I don't know the proper name for the measurement in patterns. Good luck! Sounds like you have a lot of inspiration.

I definitely relate to the measurement issue Knowing that I have to face them if I'm going to sew an item that fits me perfectly doesn't make it any easier. In RTW I'm a 6 Tall but the big 4 pattern companies have me at a size 16. (Though I sew a size 12 or 14.) It has taken a long time to not freak out about sewing pattern sizing. Your journal is lovely. I am envious. Mine is strictly functional.
@gwirithil13 жыл бұрын
I love this journal, and have done things like it in the past for knitting and various historical costuming. I would add arm size. The measurement around your armpit and top of shoulder. I find that that is where I often need to adjust. Also, because I am... generously endowed, I tend to put separate measurements for across the back to side seams and across the bust to side seams as well as ribs under bust.

I'm adapting this journal idea for my woodworking notebook, and I'm adding a "tools wishlist" page, with the tool name & use, as well as a place to tally how many times I think to myself "ugh this would be so much easier if I had x." This way if I see a DIY that uses something special I can put it on the list, and take some time to decide if I really want to purchase it or if it will actually be practical. I feel like that could really be useful for sewing tools as well, like an ergonomic seam ripper, a special machine foot, or those cute little clips that everyone on KZbin was using for a while instead of pins?

What a great idea! I do not sew much, (other than Christmas stockings sometimes or repairing clothing) but I do keep a Book Club journal, and I also keep an Art journal, not for drawings but more for ideas of art I want to make. The third journal I have is other than my Bullet Journal is my Garden journal, where I plot out gardens, planting, notes on weather and plant growth, pruning notes, things like that.

Thank you so much for this video! I also enjoy sewing, and have struggled with how to document and plan my projects! Your spreads have given me inspiration for how to use the makers expansion kit I just got for my disc planner :-)

This is so neat. I am a knitter. This would be a great way to organize my projects. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas😊

You are so similar to me, that it's a bit creepy. My mother was a seamstress, and I just started sowing again at 26 after my parents got me a sewing machine. I had an ED,, struggle with perfectionism, love to organize things, and keep a list of almost everything. I also love data, which is a part of why I worked as a data analyst. Crazy.
