Generally, once one gets a PR and as long as you meet the requirements, you are home free as your PR will get renewed almost like automatically.

No surprises that you get instant approval! Congrats. Your military volunteer service means alot, it’s tough work. My ex Chinese colleague did that to help his citizenship application and he did get it. During his time, he said there were alot of Indian PRs in his cohort at the military service. This is similar with Australian PR. There is a travel (re-entry) component that needs renewal attached to the PR.

Yes, it seems that the Malaysians could get Singapore PR easier, maybe a bit of shared culture etc. Are they grateful of getting Singapore PR, a win-win for them? A stepping stone for them to other countries like Australia etc. For a Singaporean to get Malaysia PR is slim. To get mm2h to stay in Malaysia is also difficult, many conditions imposed by the Malaysian authorities.

Congrats on your renewal! The reason why it took so long is because of some abuse cases in the past. One example such as those overseas brides who came here and got married to locals and then divorced them after getting citizenship. They have to do all background checks and especially security checks. Singapore security check is very stringent. I am pretty sure with your contributions and commitment to the NS, you would get the citizenship in the near future.

Singapore PR like a lot of PRs in other countries are as contracted at the time of issue. In the past , PR from Singapore are easier in the past than present. I know of a Chinese national with Doctorate in Engineering from Birmingham Uni, and had landed a job through the Singapore High Commission in London to come to Singapore to work . To my surprise, he was offered a PR before he even landed in Singapore. Easier in the past than present.

@@TheKrazyKoala no. He 's never to Singapore. He was interviewed several times in London by Singapore "GLC". His job offer came with a PR. In the past, highly qualified job seekers such as recently graduated Chartered Accountants, get PRs within a few months working in Singapore if they expressed the commitment. PRs are technically different based on the time of contract & issue . For the normal people, you need Singapore residency (best continuous) for around 10 years to qualify . Females can get PRs within 6mths of marriage to a Singaporean Male spouse. Male foreigners married to a Singaporean wife will need to get PR on own merits. This male thingy is normal in most 1st world countries.

They should not have called it a PR (Permanent Residency) if there’s always the risk of getting declined when it’s time for you to renew. They should have called it a RP (Residence Permit) so that foreigners would know exactly what they are getting into before they apply for a supposed PR. A RP is subject to renewal before it expires and there’s no guarantee that the application will be approved.

pr is permanent. the renewal is the entry/exit to/from singapore. if not renew, n u r in singapore, u can stay/work. just that if u leave , cannot return. the reason for this is to prevent obtaining pr but not staying in singapore.

Permanent Residence is not tied to "ethnically related to the main ethnicity" of Singapore. Ethnic Chinese from Malaysia are preferred and gets it faster because of their ease of assimilation with the Singaporean society. And no you don't "pay the CPF to the Government", you contribute your earnings towards YOUR CPF, which the government then manages the investing of these contributions, and returns it to you at various junctures of your life.

Well I would assume the Spore Government look at the contributions and attitude of the person for PR and even tighter for Citizenship as we want a good fit for both sides win-win. There was a time when PR was literally given out to encourage companies to invest and bring our labor costs down but there was a blowback with locals losing jobs and the oppositions bring this out and even won a GRC and now we have 2 GRCs in the opposition camp. Everything is a fine balance and there is really no good answer or magic formula that decides who gets PR and who doesnt it probably base on competition on what the person can bring in without impact to local job security etc.. just a hard reality of life with limit PR availability the competition is on value-add isnt that how companies too hire their employees?

@@TheKrazyKoala In fact you can stay in Singapore forever even if your reentry permit renewal is turned down. Just don't expect to leave and be able to come back. You can still work and live in Singapore forever even with an expired PR.
