Major advice , don't revise from day one as such , but make sure you do notes as you Go !! As long as you have written everything up then when it comes to revision condense it then memorise it , makes life so much easier , you don't want to be making revision material in the run up to the exam you want to just be memorising it . And it's about working smart as well , find a schedule that works for you and focus on exam technique because this makes all the difference, alevels aren't all what you know it's how you apply it , and it tests how well you can construct an argument . Also , make sure you revise everything , because if you leave things out and it's on the spec , you could potentially fail and entire question ! It feels like you learn a lot and only use a fraction , which is annoying , but try and enjoy the process of learning because in alevel you can't cut corners ! Also make sure you know year 12 content before moving onto year 13 or else you will be overwhelmed when it comes to exams. It is all a big process but will be fine in the end ! Good luck to everyone 👍

abby i literally just finished my exams too so here’s my experience, english lit in a level the content and main ideas are the same as GCSE but it’s just so much harder to get the marks in your essays. Your writing style needs to become so critical and professional which is something i found very hard as no one can teach you how to do that really. Good luck!!

abby I agree, it definitely is different from gcse however since I did the old gcse (as I did my gcses two years ago) and then the reformed alevels, not sure how big a leap it would be for you. also it isn't impossible to grasp it- just make sure you respond to your targets (don't take your grades as a personal attack on you cos they're not) and do plenty of extra reading- it may sound daunting but if you really enjoy English lit you'll soon realise that extra bit of work is not a chore but good fun like I did! Good luck if you choose it at a level!

MAKE NOTES REGULARLY. Do past paper questions while our learning the topic, so you can make sure your applying whatever your learn to a question. Then do a past paper topic question when you’ve finished the topic. For law I recommend doing “the perfect” essay. So for negligence for example, write an essay with all the law and all the case law, then apply it to the scenario so you can read and reread the essay with all the law and case law in it for negligence, don’t learn the application to the scenario though obviously, but still do it so you have that skill down.

If anyone is about to start a level sciences, brace yourself. I don’t want to scare anyone but the difference from GCSE to a level was absolutely ridiculous. I got an A* i GCSE biology but in my first a level biology mock exam i got a C. The questions and content is nothing like GCSE so be prepared to always feel like you don’t understand it the first few times but you will get through it guys

My advice would be to work hard right from the beginning of year 12, (I didn’t and I had to do a lot of catching up and it was very stressful haha) keep on top of everything and it’ll be okay!! Spanish and bio are so interesting although difficult and if you enjoy them and work hard you will be fine :) x

Personally for me A-levels were so hard for me I just finished my exams and they went terribly. It was my fault because I took it for granted due to the fact I had reasonably good grades at GCSE and my mindset wasn’t in the right place. At A levels you need to be on top of it because if you’re not it’ll hit you like a ton of bricks and will cause you to stress out and personally for me stressing out leads to migraines and I’d rather just avoid it completely if I can but it’s natural to stress to help just try and do things that help you relax. To try and avoid stressing at yr 13 you need to by the end of Yr 12 especially with bio and chem fully finish your notes so you don’t waste time redoing them in yr 13 as well as that you need to know your basics in order to learn yr 13 because you pick up from your yr 12 content. Past papers are key to doing well after each topic do exam questions and if you’re able to do them with ease it means you know that topic and you can move on but come back to it once in a while to refresh your memory. And if you don’t get it don’t be afraid to ask your friends and teachers for help that’s what i struggled with the most I felt so stupid in class because everyone got the topics except me and when the teacher asked if anyone didn’t get it I was too shy and scared to ask for help because I felt like I was the only one which is not the case others feel like this too and you need to be the one asking for help because you want to pass and it’ll help people out who are afraid. It’s going to be tough to adjust to but you can do it if you want the good grades you gotta put in the effort in. I hope this helps you guys out. 💕

I've just finished my A levels and I agree with all your advice, but I'm certain that your exams didn't go as terribly as you think they did, every single one of my friends who do Chemistry and Biology found it ridiculously hard. We're all pretty sure there will be low boundaries! Don't worry x

Just my little input on moving schools for sixth form here :) I stressed myself out SO much moving schools because I knew absolutely no one but I think it was the best choice I could’ve made school wise and friend wise. On my first week a girl invited me to sit with her group at lunch and I’ve been part of that group for the entirety of year 12 and they are all absolutely wonderful! The atmosphere of sixth form is brilliant and while it is stressful (I’ve nearly finished year 12) it’s worth it because I’ve made memories I’ll never forget. So I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re moving schools or worried about it just try and relax and you can always transfer back if you really hate it but sometimes change is good :)

GCSEs being cancelled sucks because they were the first things I would have properly revised for. I’m a massive procrastinator because I’m a perfectionist and get overwhelmed easily, and in my mocks I could get good grades without studying (kinda wish I’d tried harder now tho lmao). Now I feel like I haven’t properly developed the skills I need for revision. At least something good has come out of it - my college options are sending me virtual work over the summer so it forces me to keep my brain active, especially important with German. My high school doesn’t have a sixth form so I want to make a good first impression with any college I choose

My year 12 finals start in 3 days and understandably I've been doing a tonne of revision, especially the stuff I've got timetabled in for this weekend, but my parents are really unsupportive, they've been asking me to basically run the house during study leave because I have "nothing better to do during the day" in their opinion and they are constantly telling me how I need to get a job and do something with my life instead of wasting it revising and they basically accuse me of being all sorts of stuff that aren't the best for your mental state when you're revising and stressed. Does anyone have any advise? I've tried to explain how important these exams are but they just aren't having it.
@meriems2134
@meriems2134 6 жыл бұрын
Floral Lucy honestly, I know it’s hard but just try to ignore it. This isn’t the best of advice, but once you’ve finished, you won’t have to worry. Only get a job if you feel you can balance both education and the job, if not, don’t.

I did really well in my A levels (not bragging...just super proud of myself) and now I’m going to begin a placement year before going into my final year of uni (yes I still watch Eve cause she’s lovely and has such a good work ethic, forever giving me motivation) My advice is to ‘hit the ground running’ work as hard at the start of A-Levels as you intend to when exam season comes around, the work you do will obviously be different (i.e. homework and note-making vs revision) but simply just put as much time and effort into all work you do so that when exams come around you don’t feel overwhelmed and stressed out because you are used to the workload. I don’t mean do school work 22hrs a day, I just mean make sure you do work at the weekend and a bit each night, give yourself time off but make sure you are handing in assessment work which reflects the grade your aiming for in your exams and work consistently! Don’t allow yourself to feel like you are going from 0-100 before exams cause it will stress you out! Review your work regularly and engage with what you’re learning. If you don’t understand something ask your teacher then and there, don’t wait till nearer exams as it might take some time to process it. Review what you have learnt regularly, even if you just take 30 mins in the car to read notes you made on something 3 weeks ago. This way everything will seem familiar when exams start and you won’t have to learn something from scratch. The app/desktop programme ‘Anki’ is great cause you can make revision cards and then it reminds you to go through them every now and again. Finally, prepare for exams as you go, as in create content you can revise from (mind maps, revision cards etc). Don’t just write out pages and pages of notes because it will take you weeks to then write out your revisions cards/mind maps. Although writing out the cards is good revision, it is time consuming, and when you have to write out 50-100 at once you will get bored and won’t internalise what you’re writing down. I would suggest doing ‘revision content’ preparations as you go through each topic and before for your mocks - that way if you miss a topic out or find that a certain method you are using to help you learn is not working for you, you can rectify before your main exams! Good luck to anyone going into Year 13 or starting Year 12, please don’t stress too much. I was so stressed in my first year and it really just didn’t help at all. I did so much better in Year 13 (A*A*A) than in Year 12 (ABBB) because I just worked hard consistently and kept on top of everything. When exams began I wasn’t worried and went into my exams feeling confident because I knew I had learnt everything I could and had truly just tried my best. Trying your best is all you can ever do, and if you look back and just know you tried your best you cannot be disappointed with the outcome. Enjoy your final years at school, it really does go too quickly! Xoxo (thanks if you read this to the end and I hope this helps!)

Just to add, with the whole new gcse and alevel thing something I think a lot of people should bear in mind is that the new gcses give you a much stronger baseline for the work in year 12. Im in year 12 and the jump for say maths wasn’t as great than what it used to be as the new gcses were harder. Likewise, for subjects like chemistry and biology the new specs often touch alot more on the alevel concepts from what ive so that massive jump everyone says there is won’t be as bad cause sitting old spec science tbh wasn’t that great

Exactly, she did the old gcses and the new A levels which must have been a big gap, it might be smaller with the new gcses. Now in gcse languages we have to do a completely spontaneous writing and do translations, and we have to speak spontaneously in the speaking, which weren’t in the old gcse

Leah Bunn I know you weren’t asking me 😪 but I thought I would reply anyways. Honesty just revise. I know you may think it’s too early, but trust me it’s not. Revise as if you were about to go and sit an exam in the subject as well, to make sure you’re 100% focussed. Also get rid of any major distractions when revising ( I.e. phones, tv,etc). Also, work in different environments as it helps soooo much ( so one day go to the library, next day revise at home, then school,etc)

Also, make sure you start making your revision resources from the start as you will not have time to make them during Study Leave. But apart from that and what @Meriem S said, try and enjoy Y10 and your subjects since if you enjoy them, revising them will be easier.

FangirlFangirlz I've almost finished year 10 but I know sooo many people leave their revision til like a month before the gcses ( found from KZbin comments and my teachers) so I'd avoid making that mistake and Come home and just spend 30 minutes making notes or flashcards so when you have exams you can just revise your notes or at the end of every week. It just lowers the work load. And like other people said, you need to understand the content other wise there's no point. Also past papers. :)
@uwu-0009

I just finished Year 11 and just manage your time well and don't leave revision until last minute but PLEASE (please) don't stress out too much about GCSEs. Once exam season rolls around you'll notice that everyone has realised that GCSEs really don't matter that much and don't really care for them anymore. Of course, revise and make sure you know your content but if you feel that you're falling behind or you feel overwhelmed, take a short break and have a breather. Make sure you leave plenty of time to do what you want like hobbies, hanging out with friends, etc. In the long run, you'll appreciate not having burned yourself out and ALWAYS remember that it's not about what grades you get but whether you feel that you tried your best and enjoyed your subjects as much as you could. Effort does not mean high grades and high grades does not mean satisfaction!! Good luck!!!

Your sixth form experience was totally different to mine. My college gave us about 10 hours of work per subject to do over the summer after gcses. I do maths, physics and computer science and the work load was insane. I had to work during all my free periods, and lunches and all evening doing 12 hour days just to keep up with my homework. It totally destroyed my mental health. I am going into my second year and I am dreading going back. We were given about 20 hours of work per subject over the summer and so I have not had a break since February this year

How much do you think it’s possible to change your grades around from GCSE to A level? If i get a 6(B) in biology at GCSE, with hard work do you think it is possible to achieve an A at A level? If i don’t do as good at GCSE does that guarantee me bad grades at A level?

Its completely possible! I got A*AAAABBBBBC at GCSE and I'm predicted A*AA at A level. I've just finished my exams and hopefully I will get those grades (I'm in the same year as Eve!). It doesn't guarantee you bad grades at A level at all. GCSE is mostly just regurgitating knowledge and there's no real application/use of knowledge/own research whereas at A level, it is so independent and so self-motivated. If you're a hard worker, you will really suit A levels. Make sure you make revision notes as you go along or there is far too much content to cover last-minute. Attend all possible revision sessions, make essay plans if you do those types of subjects, extra reading, watch the news for updates in your subjects, etc, etc. Hopefully you will be doing subjects that you enjoy at A level (until you start hating them for how much work it is) and this will motivate you far more than 11 subjects that you could take or leave quite happily.

I also just finished my A levels (English, Geography and History) and I agree so much with what you're saying. I honestly think you 100% get out what you put in, I have found college life the most fulfilling and amazing experience that has really shaped me as a person. Genuinely beyond happy with my friends, teacher relationships and in fact myself after A levels. I also applied to Oxbridge, and although I was rejected post interview, I found that even getting an interview with just 1 A* at GCSE was a massive confidence booster. I think that as long as you keep up to date with revision notes and use your 'frees' wisely, and not as 'frees' but a time to shift a lot of work, A levels are not as scary as they are hyped up to be. I personally found A levels as a whole more fulfilling, interesting and motivating than GCSE. I also agree with the grade drop theory; I got an A in Geography at GCSE and then got an E in my first A level graded assessment, and I continued to find Geography extremely difficult but having put a lot of work in, will hopefully be happy with my end result. Loved this video and just thought I'd put my ten pence in! xx

I would say GCSE to AS levels isnt that bad at all (providing your exam board still allow you to cash in AS results) but the jump from AS to A2 is so bad in my experience. you have coursework (if this still applies) and on top of that you have the same amount of exams in yr 12 along with UCAS stress and so much other personal things happening, you will feel the intensity more.

Most Oxford courses don't require an A*, some Cambridge courses do, but mostly they trust their own admissions test as virtually anyone can work incredibly hard and do well in standardised testing whereas Oxbridge admissions tests sort the boys from the men. I think thats the theory. And obviously they interview you where they can tell if you're suitable/intelligent. No need for an A* I guess.

Just another perspective to add to this video, I’m the same year as eve and just finished my a levels yesterday, I took maths physics chemistry and psychology for AS, the jump doesn’t seem that big until I went from As to Ds in my mocks, for AS I revised using flash cards and ended up with AABC, B in physics and C in chemistry, I dropped chemistry, this year I revised using past papers (which I never did at gcse) and I think that’s the best thing to do, use every resource available. I moved from a small school to one of the biggest colleges in the country (I think there’s around 12,000 students in total) and every teacher cared about me, most of them treated us like humans, some dicks, but mostly they let us chat and have a laugh with us and 100% agree about the AS content in second year, in AS psychology we did 6 topics in A2 another 4 and a bit, I only had to revise some of the studies for the AS content but there were 2 units which I didn’t revise once in A2. I anyone has any questions about college/moving or more sciencey subjects then I’d be happy to respond to any comments!:)

Am guessing you got an A in a level maths do you have any tips on how to revise from year 12 for maths and will it be hard if say I got like a 7(A) for GCSE maths or wouldnt i be able to cope? and how would you suggest i should revise for a level maths and is it as hard as people make it out to be? (for gcse i had a crap teacher and had to learn most the content myself)
@jemima885ify
@jemima885ify 6 жыл бұрын
Ace playss Ace playss yeah I got an A at a level. I got an A* at GCSE, I think you’d definitely be able to cope, I know at my college if you got below an A at GCSE you had to have subsidiary maths lesson, but since you did the new gcse it won’t be too hard. I went from a D in my mocks to an A in my actual exam by doing countless past papers, if you do loads of questions on the things you’re learning and the things you’ve already learnt, and then past papers you’ll be fine, you’ll be doing the new maths a level so you’ll not have many papers, but use the old papers from your exam board to start as the content’s basically the same and you just need as much practice as you can get and then closer to the exam use the new papers to get used to the format. Both my A level maths teachers have been shockingly bad and I taught myself almost everything through past papers and watching videos on topics I don’t understand (those 2 techniques are the only thing that possibly saved my grades). It’s not as hard as it’s made out to be, but (without sounding completely up myself) I’m quite naturally talented at Maths, it’s the subject I did best in at GSCE and A level, but I would never have picked it unless I had to to do physics at uni. From GCSE to AS it’s like you’re progressing and just learning more maths, it’s AS to A2 that it really hits you
