In this episode I°m waking up early in the morning with a weird feeling of something wrong. My sixth sense woke me up and found out I was dragging from the mooring ball.
Also sharing some sceneries from Sandy island.
Thank you for watching and hope you enjoy this video!

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm trying to sail around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.
Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.
PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

Thank you so much for watching and for being here. Your kind words are most appreciated. Maybe this channel could win a prize for the most anonyme and underrated sailing channels😀 But seriously I think being on my way towards 17K subscribers is quite good and way more than ever expected. It’s quite a lot of good channels out here. All the best and cheers 🍻

Love your videos, thanks for making them. I’m hopefully a year out and there next year! Anyhow, metal shackles. Put a length of chain in the bight of the rope. Helps to lasoo a buoy and pass the chain part through the metal shackle and still have the rope for elasticity and friendly to your boat. Used this in Scotland a lot with public buoys that had metal shackles 👍 Thanks again.

@@SailingwithThomas Thats why i gave up cruising off shore (Tonga & NZ only) It really got up my spine having to pay to drop the pick , Tahiti 35$ , Fiji going that way , Australia so many rules you might as well be in the Army , Tasmania OK . Fair winds Thomas .

Yeah unfortunately it seems like sailors are the new milking cows for money. Charter business is really bad for the future of cruisers as guests on a week or two’s holiday have a different look at fees and how they spend money. This educates some destinations in a wrong direction believing sailors have endless Cashflow and willing to pay for nothing... It’s different for 10 people on a rented boat for a week splitting the costs than a full time cruising couple, or even worse being solo. I see this more often now than 10 years ago. Last season I had in Croatia numbers of charters was five times the first time I sailed around there.... It’s understandable but from a selfish sailors perspective not favourable. Cheers 🍻

How is it you have to pay to anchor in a bay Thomas?Those lights just look great at night on your mast….nice video thanks for sharing

Thank you for watching 🙏🏻 Unfortunately it’s more and more common to find ways making more money. Some places they just spread out mooring everywhere so you have no alternative. Other places like here they call it a national park and then they charge you not only for cruising permits but also daily fee to stay on your own anchor. It’s getting more and more expensive to sail around.... 16US$ is not much but if it’s every night it adds up. So I will not stay long here

Speaking of mooring balls, since you are going that way eventually, you might want a heads up about the island Bora Bora. No anchoring allowed anywhere on the island, but if you break lose from one of the locally supplied mooring balls, the locals take no responsibility. The Sailing Family tells the terrible story about what happened to them on a mooring ball in Bora Bora beginning at about 6 minutes into this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/in_WlWesZbSlbbs&ab_channel=TheSailingFamily

Yeah mooring balls are my last choice but unfortunately it’s sometimes no other options. I never feel comfortable on mooring and normally check the mooring pretty well. This time I did not see the chuckle had edges sharp as knives... Thank you for your heads up! All the best 🍻

It was so sharp edges on it so it just ate up the ropes and knots in record speed.... When using stainless shackles on this it wear them down hence this is not aloud at many mooring fields. But here everyone do it so then I have to do it as well..... Thank you for watching 🙏 cheers 🍻

love your videos.....why did you pick a 55 ft boat? Im looking at buying a 44 ft boat for a round the world trip and Im wondering is it too bog!
@SailingwithThomas
@SailingwithThomas 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you for your question! I have lots of arguments for why I chose a 55 however it comes with a price. Handling and sailing is no stress its the running costs that's crazy. The running costs on a 45 footer is 50% of a 55. So you can easily find strong arguments to stay below 45 feet as well. All the best and cheers 🍻

The list of cruiser fouling on mooring is long. Some with deep impact and loses. Ask Nanji! Avoid, unless maintained by sailing clubs as in Denmark, Sueden and here in my home country, by local clubs! I am a daysailer (due to impending and omni present marital threats), but whenever I am allowed to venture, I trust my oversize thingy, nothing else....
@SailingwithThomas

True words however sometimes you are forced to take a mooring because its a national park. Eg Bonaire its only marina or a mooring. No anchoring.... Im defiantly not a big fan hence the fact I use anchor alarm more than on anchor! Cheers 🍻
