15” wheelbase is wide… Most boards are 14,5 but my last Magenta was 14” and it really messed up my timing. I’m also like you, if I like the board, I try to stick with the same one. Good thing about skating as an adult is that we can afford exactly what we want! Good set up Neil! 👊🏼

For me 15” is perfect feel much more stable when going fast and carving bowls, shorter feels more twitchy. My vert deck is 15.25” Yeah we’re really lucky now to just buy what we want and experiment to find what we like although when I was younger I had no idea and didn’t care about this stuff , as long as I had a board and it was skateable I was happy 😊

Said it before, IKP is the way to go, and Grindking kingpins are the best. Nice kreepers.❤

Yep 👍🏻 always used them BITD and glad to be able to still use them today 👊🏼

Nice setup, I’m the same with the wide wheelbase and have two setups with 14,75 and 15. Much more stable for old skaters like me. Those grooves on your Indy’s are insane! 🤘🏼

Thanks 👍🏻 it definitely seems strange how it’s only us older guys who seem to appreciate finding the right wheelbase 🤔 I was in a skate shop last year and asked the guy working there what the wheelbase of a certain deck was and he had no idea what I was talking about so I had to explain, he didn’t even know it was a thing 😜 every day is a school day ☺️ I’m rather attached to these trucks now and I’ll be quite sad the day they give up on me, I just hope I don’t slam too hard when they do 🤣

Nice one! I'm on 60mm full conical f4s (they're not in the main line but there is an Austin Kanfoush model that comes in 60)

Oh nice! I’ll see if I can find some to try , cheers

Nice setup, I modify my trucks in the same way, use the same wheels for parks, dragons in rougher surfaces. I plan to get a flight deck when my economy allows me to. Not being cheecky but great minds think alike 😂😂
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
Cheers ! Yeah it took a decent amount of experimentation, progression in my skating techniques to find the right setup but i'm very happy with it now, part of the fun is the experimentation but you have to get to a point where you know you can work with what you have and move the focus to your skating consistency. I don't need the flight deck they just don't make a 7 ply version of this board and they are crazy expensive so at least I'm glad I can make them last a long time. Interesting to hear you have a similar setup

Nice. I have some stage 5(or 6?) Indy 149s with GK kingpins
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
Awesome, I think they are what I had BITD 👊
@diplenski9 ай бұрын
i have 3 sets of gk trucks from '90s-'00s, they're decent but at 7.65" they're a bit narrow for most setups i'd ride these days so i just repurpose the kingpins. kinda crazy that 35 years in and nobody has even come close to making a better kingpin, or even almost as good
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
Cool, I pretty much bypassed the entire 7.75 era apart from getting a real cheap one with venture trucks as a cruiser which I still have the parts of. I do have some OG tracker aggro trucks and Some other Deadbolt (Zorlac?) ones from the late 80’s that have inverted kingpins the same as the grind kings, Gullwing also made them. So a few brands were into them back then but these days even the attempts have been wrong. The NHS ones (Indy and Krux) the heads of the kingpins stick out just as much as the nut on a non inverted one 🤣 slappy seem to be paying attention to the Clearance idea with their new trucks.

@@NeilHesterSkateboarding i have some 7.65" venture lows from the '90s that i still use on 8" setup. and recently got some 8.25" venture highs. i must say i think i like them as much as indy, but they're very different trucks from each other. i think the only real similarity is they're kinda heavy, which i actually like

Solid breakdown. Indy does make trucks with an inverted kingpin now. Not sure if you have looked at them. Do you use the standard rail screw on the flight deck? Or are they too long for the width of the deck? Respect that you stick to one board. I have done that for the park board for the last 4. Definitely gained some consistency from that. Stay Rad Sir.
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
Yep my baseplates are from their inverted kingpin trucks, I’ve done a video about them already 👍🏻 I don’t know what you mean about the stop rail screw 🤔 can you explain ? Consistency is really important for me, I do t want unnecessary things getting in the way of my progress , it’s nice to experiment but I’m not willing for it to be to the detriment of my skating. Cheers for checking in , stay rad too 👊🏼
@AdventuresInSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
@@NeilHesterSkateboarding sorry typo. Standard rail screws, the ones that come with the rails.
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
@@AdventuresInSkateboarding ah ok 👍🏻 yes the standard ones were short enough that they don’t come through, but it’s pretty easy to get different ones from a hardware store if you need them.

Do the rails make rock to fakies more stable? I’m learning rock to fakie and rock and rolls and the board feels like it wobbles on the coping, scary, maybe I need to deck them more
@NeilHesterSkateboarding9 ай бұрын
They will certainly stop the board wobbling with the concave left to right. Rock fakies are a scary thing to learn so I would say find the lowest thing possible and do a thousand on that before working up to something higher, I suspect a big part of the problem you are having would be balance and the only way to address that is more time on the board and more attempts.
