As someone who's over 50, I understand the importance of taking care of our skin as we age. It's no secret that our skin changes as we get older, and with that comes the need for different skincare routines and products.
One thing I want to address before we dive in is comments I've had asking if I've had plastic surgery, a face lift, eye lift, or fillers. I haven't had any work done on my wrinkles and fine lines, and I embrace my wrinkles and aging. That being said, there are plenty of ways I take care of my skin outside of having work done.
In this video, I'll be sharing my tips and tricks for anti-aging skincare, specifically for mature skin. Hi Laura Rae 👋 I'm 50 years old. I have normal skin but my T-Zone gets a pinch oily at times so even though I haven't tried the CoverGirl Essence foundation I just know it isn't for me. I'm so glad you reviewed it because now I know what not to get. I really don't use powder to set my makeup so I usually go for a satin finish or Soft matte since I hydrate well and apply sunscreen before applying foundation. What I will do is use the Wet and Wild Fight Dirty setting spray which has Niacinamide to set my foundation, it's great and it has a fine mist. I hope you feel better soon. Sisterly advice, Keep doing the Guasha, drink lots of decaffeinated teas with a pinch of Manuka honey and try to get as much rest as possible. Sending prayers and lots of love 💕

I would love a thorough foundation review! I am having the hardest time finding one I love. I can't afford the expensive ones but would be willing to save if I knew what to buy. We don't have stores here where I can try things on. I am told the Chanel is the best. ???

Between genetics and taking great care of your skin you're now reaping the rewards, and women who haven't done that cannot possibly comprehend. I've always looked younger than I am, and now that I live in a community of American and Canadian retirees here in Mexico, women guess I'm in my early 50s, and I'll be 64 in two weeks. I'm happy to be reaping the rewards of discovering and becoming fanatical about sunscreen in my late 20s, and in my early 30s discovering Matrixyl and other things which I started using not only on my face, but on my neck, décolleté, and on the back of my hands. I don't think I look like I'm going to be 64 years old in two weeks. I don't know if I could do it, but just let their remarks roll off you. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your honest evaluations.

I am in my mid sixties. I appreciate watching women apply skin care and makeup who are aging gracefully. It inspires me and I learn many helpful tips! I had ovarian cancer and total hysterectomy at age 49. Without ovaries my hormones plunged, people said I'd age fast but this has not been my case. My adrenals took over enough hormone production to help. I think as we age it's so important to take good care of our bodies, that is the best defense we have against aging. Also to see the sunny side of life! Laugh often, be kind. That makes women of any age more attractive!

You literally don’t need any foundation or any other makeup for that matter. You’re naturally gorgeous! I was blown away when you put on the sunscreen and said to myself, “she’s done! Hi Laura Rae, I finally got a chance to watch this. Better late than never ! Very helpful, and I agree on keeping it simple. I try out new things too, but certain products are consistent. Loving the Naturium Retinal, and still using the Sukoyaka Suhada eye cream, and also use the Benton Fermentation Eye cream, but the price on that is rising, so may just stick with SS eye cream. I also spot apply like you do depending on what my skin needs. Thanks for getting up before the birds to help us out ! I wouldn’t be able to even form a sentence at 4:40 am. 😂

I was watching & enjoying you .....then I glanced down & realized I have never subscribed ! So I hit the button! I love deep set eyes....yours look so nice. You are the same age as my younger sister. She just turned 59 Monday. I'm considerably older. I've managed to repair some skin damage. My skin barrier was damaged & that's why my skin burned as well as itched after showers in the winter. Our skin sure does respond to products! Thanks to a couple YT dermatologists, I made some changes & my skin has benefitted. Also, I want to mention you are truly a lady. You never use foul language. It's sad that you felt you had to address accusations about whether you'd had procedures or not. People just can't be happy for others doing well in life. We are all different and unique and not everyone at 40, 50, 60, 70, 80+ is going to look as youthful or as aged as their similarly aged counterparts; there's a lot of varying factors such as climate, sun exposure, stress, diet, genetics, medications, illness, fitness, weight, whether people smoke / vape, drink alcohol, etc that can contribute to how well or poorly someone is aging. Hi Laura I have always used skincare since my very early teens and am reaping the rewards as I age - people are amazed that I am in my fifties 😂. I get told around 40 or late thirties which is nice 😊. I always had dry eczema prone skin and in the menopause years developed rosacea, so skincare has always been necessary for me and moisturiser is something I can’t do without. In the last few years I have used much more spf than I used in my youth (if only we knew then what we know now), but I was never someone who exposed myself to a lot of sun (super pale, prone to burning and prickly heat). I wore spf all Summer before we knew to wear it all year round. I live in Scotland so it’s not exactly a warm sunny place very often 😂. Less sun damage than my peers and lifelong skincare has made a difference but genetics also play a part. I’m noticing more aging now I’m done with peri menopause and fully menopausal, but that’s normal tbh. I have never had surgery or injections or anything invasive done to my face either. I’m not scared of it but I had several necessary surgeries for abdominal issues and don’t feel the need for elective procedures for vanity (I have no issues with other people doing so). I layer my skincare but my skin is super dry and needs maximum moisture to be healthy. Best wishes x

I just ordered 2 of those foundation for me and my daughter. Hope I can use it.. My skin is so dry and sensitive. I've been using Halo Glo from elf all by itself. I know it's supposed to go under your foundation but I'm STILL trying to find one. Having severe rosacea in such a nightmare.

You look so pretty, Laura. I’m 54. My major skincare issue is hyperpigmentation. Your skin is so clear, so it appears this is not an issue for you. I use face sunscreen daily, which helps with prevention, but do you have a recommendation for lightening the hyperpigmentation?

I’m not Laura of course yet I too have pigmentation and have found Jojoba Pigmentation oil ( by The Australian Jojoba Co) has really evened my skin out. I’m almost 50 and had pink dots from sensitive reaction and pimples, brown sunspots and just aging skin and I can really see the difference using their products. I hope this helps you too.

Hi Laura, your skin is really pretty. I purchase Intrinsic Petite Silken Wipes 2x2,4 ply blend of Soft Fibers. $4.99 for 200 for my eyes in taking my eye makeup and left over mascara. They are so very soft and last for a few months as I don’t wear makeup daily. I think you will find that they take off All Mascara softly, compared to Q-Tips. Thank you for sharing.

Also the Haru Haru Wonder Black Bamboo mist & their Black rice toner are gorgeous products that leave my skin silky, plumped & glowing. I get so many compliments when I use them & go bare faced without makeup. The mist is so fine that it covers so well. I use it as a starting essence after cleansing & also again over my moisturiser to seal in everything like a slugging tool for day. I Cant be without those & the Numbuzzin line.

Was wondering if it would be really beneficial to use organic castor oil on your face instead of Alana Mitchell. You would get a lot of castor oil benefits and it does sink into the skin pretty well. Does not clogged pores or cause acne. I have really been castor oil lately.

The Alana Mitchell is a tinted sunscreen that also is a moisturizer. I like to use it in place of foundation or as a primer for foundation if I want fuller coverage. I have tried castor oil in the past, but I am just so happy with the products I am using now. They all play so well under makeup. xoxo

Hi, Laura! Love this. I’m very close to your age. We have very similar issues, except living in different climates. My skin leans normal when in FL, except in summer. Then it’s a little oily in the t-zone. I lean dry in UT, ESPECIALLY under my eyesI have a completely different skin care routine here vs UT. I need to gua sha (sp?) My brows are thinner because of chronic waxing in the 90’s & 00’s. I hardly have to tweeze over the past 3-4 yrs. Menopause really did a number on my brows and lashes. My hair (on my head) is a lot thinner due to menopause as well. My hair stylist used to thin my hair…hasn’t had to in a long time! Thanks for walking through all the products. The product under your eyes…does it ever pill under your concealer? I find I can’t use liquid or gel-like products under my eyes without it pilling. 🤔 Genetics really do make a difference…until just in the last 8 yrs, my mom hardly had any wrinkles. She’s 93. That’s also due to the fact that she avoided the sun like a vampire! 😂 She even grew up in a tropical climate, but always used an umbrella in the sun. I used to be so embarrassed when she did that growing up, but now I understand why! I have a lot of sun damage from laying in the sun in my 20’s. When I have to walk in the sun now, I either use an umbrella or a big rimmed hat AND use sunscreen. I don’t like the Clinique take off the day either for the same reason as you…I haven’t tried the ELF one. The ULTA cleansing balm makes my eyes foggy, as well as Eve Lom. I’ve tried soooo many! I’m 60 and will be 61 in May. I’ve taken care of my skin since I was 13. Thankfully no one has accused me of doing any work on my face which I haven’t, but I have been accused (once) of a boob job. Heck my boobs were large when I was 13.😂

For the little veins on the side of the nose……. I was using the osmosis catalyst…… and it got rid of them! :)….. I feel it did tighten my jawline, but I was really hoping it would lift up my hooded eyelid……not so much :/….

When we live overseas, I often take locum work. On three occasions, I worked with cosmetic surgeons. I learned a very valuable lesson ...... People lie! One of the biggest lies? "Good grief, you don't look your age! You only look (pick 10-15 years younger)". It is one of those white lies that is used to make people feel better. Invariably, unless you have had major work done, you pretty much will look your age. Ladies, there is nothing wrong with that. Be glad to be healthy and be ecstatic to be happy with your life.

I totally agree with you. I don’t mind looking 60. I am just happy to be here and I appreciate each moment I have with my family and friends. Having just lost my mom in October, it is a reminder that life is a gift and we just don’t know how much time we have. Much love!❤️

Genetics. I really think this is the reason. My mom was 81 when she passed in October. My eyes look very similar to hers. Mom had very smooth skin in the eye area. My brows have a high arch like hers too. We were always told we look alike, and I think it was mostly because of the shape of our eyes. xoxo
