Oh! I can give some recs! I'm not a big fan of super hero comics myself, but I've read quite a few graphic novels and comics that I love. Nimona is one of my favorites, just fantasy fun times. Adventure Zone is also very fun. So is the Delilah Dirk series. The Invisible Kingdom was really neat, great sci-fi art. For middle-grade, Stargazing and Ghosts are both excellent, and the Amulet series is pretty good as well. For more romance centered, Heartstopper is the sweetest, but can reccomend things like Bloom or Check Please. Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me is also stunningly beautiful and a great story. Also I am a big fan of Brian K Vaughn and would recommend any of his, particularly Paper Girls, Y: The Last Man, and Saga. For more nonfiction, Persepolis is a good one, or Belonging: A German Reckoning with History and Home.

I've been reading to read Fence and I just need to go ahead and buy it. I wanted to like Lumberjanes more than I did. I have the first volume and tried another one but didn't like it.

Two I think you would really like are :My Lady's Choosing: An Interactive Romance Novel (Kitty Curran & Larissa Zageris) and Pride of Baghdad (Brian K. Vaughan & Niko Henrichon)

My Lady's Choosing has a graphic novel?? I enjoyed the book! I will have to check out Pride of Baghdad!!

@@Shaegeeksout I was mis-remembering! I am sorry....I was thinking about Romeo and/or Juliet by Ryan North (which is a graphic novel choose your own adventure) and for some reason, I thought My Ladys Choosing was in the same boat...I had to flip through my copy to recheck. Nope there isnt a graphic novel adaptation. Sorry friend! But that would be really cool if there was. It was such a fun story.

The Prince & the Dressmaker is so sweet! And I really like the art.

For recommendations, I would recommend Check Please! So far I’ve only finished volume 1 (currently reading volume 2), but it’s also a very sweet story with great art - it’s about a freshman who joins a college hockey team but is terrified of being checked. He also loves baking pies and has a video blog, and there’s a cute romance between him and one of his teammates.

Thanks for the rec! And yes, the prince and the dressmaker is lovely!

If you like Faith Erin Hicks, read Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong! It's hilarious and an all around fun time! I also recommend Boxers and Saints by Gene Leun Yang! It's a great historical fiction graphic novel, though a bit heavy so you may need to be in a certain mood for it. American Born Chinese is also really great! Also, if you like gays and hockey, please read Check Please by Ngozi Ukazu. It is so sweet and adorable!

You are absolutely right the comic book community is vast and there is a lot of knowledge out there. Definitely check out my show because while we do talk about the basic superheros there are a lot of interesting sci-fi/fantasy manga influences indie titles and we are going to be showcasing those a great deal. Also...we don't go too deep so if your comic knowledge is still at beginners levels we can ease you in.

I just appreciate you saying what’s a bind up and what’s a graphic novel 🙌🏻 people mix it up all the time which I get but it’s nice having it said right

I work very hard to make sure that I am correct with my terminology. I was ignorant for a long time, but I am correcting my behavior!

I'm pretty deep into comics - as in, been a reader and collector for decades and work in a comic shop - and I've never heard anyone call them 'bind ups'! So you learn something every day.

I think you and I love a lot of the same graphic novels! I did a tour of my collection on Instagram where I’m ReadWithE and I hope you will check it out and find some new favorites! If you don’t go look, let me at least recommend Life of Melody- my favorite of 2020. 💖💖
