They did mention in their ads that there's a high-temp protection for the LEDs light ball. When it gets too hot, it switches to low power mode. So, I think they might consider part of it their fault.

Interesting! Maybe that system failed and it's why it caught? The light definitely didn't ever go into low power mode. Good insight!

Watching this video I was like who does this guy remind me of... then it hit me, Harvey Specter. 😂 The RC 450B is on sale right now on B&H for $600 which I believe is the lowest it has been since it came out. Looking up videos to see if I should pull the trigger on it. I already have 4 other monolights, but this one would technically be the best of them based on what I've seen so far. As for the accident you had, my Godox lights also have a clear cover, so I think I will stick a piece of gaffer's tape on the protector to remind me that it's still on if I ever forget to take it off.

@@H1Productions the $600 price on B&H right now is such an incredible deal! The 450b is also the brightest light I own. It’s great for getting that “high bright” commercial feel for my larger sets. I wish I would have started buying brighter lights years ago

Oh no. Anyone with a bunch of powerful LEDs has run into this human error issue, at least once. (BTW, I almost burned through a camera bad with a small Boling Pocket RGB LED. It was on 100% for 30 minutes, inside my bag.) Anyway, it's nice to see that SmallRig is a customer friendly company.

Breaking gear is always a big bummer, if it's for a job that's making money it always hurts a little less. But this shoot was 100% just for fun for my family so it definitely hurt a little more than most.

This is partially small rigs fault. There are a lot of LED manufacturers that make that plastic cover colored red. So there is no chance of leaving it on. Small rig should make it red or green, or whatever color. Cheers.

This sure would be an enhancement to their product but when it comes to something like this there's nobody to blame but yourself, I think. When I rented a Aputure 1200d (that had a red cover) the same happened to me. Although I just switched it on for a short moment - maybe a minute (and standing behind it, I wondered why the light is red...), it melted the sticker on and part of the cover. Fortunately nothing happened to the LED. I learned not to switch on the light before putting on some kind of light modifier.
