I was married to a surgeon and he felt that a marriage counsellor was not "educated" enough to work with him. He also felt that he made so much money that he could do whatever he wanted. I would not quit my job and he felt threatened. I am a nurse and did not have the income he made, but it was my security. After six years, I ended the marriage and I am happier for it. "You guys need a good counselor..." Nah, they're past needing a good counselor. I'm against divorce but a spouse who (continually and systematically) betrays one's trust doesn't deserve to stay married. That husband needs more than "confidence" and that "wife" needed to open her eyes. As responsible as my husband is w/money, I'm glad I manage our finances b/c I need to see where everything goes or will go. I do our taxes, pay the bills, and dictate how much to spend on things. We don't spend $ w/o letting the other know so these relationships where X doesn't know what Y's been doing are so strange to me.

@@Mississippian Ha, yeah right. He doesn't "let" me do anything. Like in many marriages, one spouse managing the finances or another facet doesn't mean the other "lets" them do it. There's simply a mutual respect, etc. and in our case, he works FT, I have more time at home, I like the control, and I'm better at it 😅, so we decided I'd do it. As for a spouse taking everything in a marriage where both ARE privy to what's happening and both have access, it honestly goes both ways. I could take everything, too: but neither of us are a-holes so we won't do that.

This is why women feel the need to work and have a career despite some of them wanting to be at home and raise the children. Otherwise they are venerable to being in this situation and they can't get out. Never fully give up working, always at least have a part time job. It's just too dangerous.

If women would use their heads instead of going with feelings, marriages would work. It is good to be attracted and in love but if you blind are to his personality flaws. It will be a rough marriage. You have to have trust in a marriage if you can not trust them don't get married. There is nothing wrong with one spouse staying at home taking care of the children or if a woman chooses to be a house wife. Just because you picked the wrong mate or have trust issues. Does not mean that the rest of us should. You need get some help with those feelings. Trust issues will hurt you in other aspects of your life.

I am passionate about guitars. I have a huge collection, my wife did not mind at all. She actually admired a few in the collection. We always discussed financial decisions, If I wanted to acquire a new one, we would discuss the financial ramifications of a new guitar. This one time I found something I knew she would not agree to. I bought it anyway. The biggest argument of or lives happened on the day of delivery. I knew I was wrong, but I wanted it so bad. She passed away the next day. I broke her heart and then she broke mine. The guilt of not being honest is something I will never recover from. Please, I beg of you all, be honest in all that you do.
