The VO during the steer tube section was pure gold. Superceded only by the use of the Wii music. I think I prefer the look of the Z2 over the RS, but form following function, as long the new new fork rides better then it truly doesn't matter.

My 130mm frame, 140mm fork aluminum VPP bike with EXO casing tires (DHR/Rekon) and stock aluminum rims, set up tubeless, is about 34.5 lbs from what I remember. No fancy schmancy suspension either, just a Fox 34 Rhythm so a bit heavier. I'm impressed by the build and weight on your bike, figured steel would be heavier
@Spindatt
@Spindatt Жыл бұрын
Nice! Yeah, I think there is some assumptions that a steel frame is like 10lbs heavier than other frames, but its probably more like 1 or 2lbs. Easy to make up with some other parts without spending a fortune. I could save another half a pound with just a cassette I bet.

A quality steel frame is lighter than an aluminum one. A cubic inch of aluminum is lighter than a cubic inch of chromoly steel. However, in order to be as strong as a chromoly steel tube, an aluminum tube has to be both bigger and thicker walled. Chromoly steel is MUCH stronger than 6061 aluminum. Chromoly is what roll cages are made from. That, and good quality steel bikes.

I noticed that Marino website uses actual seat tube angle in the custom fs bike design page. I know that if there is bb offset the actual angle and the effective angle will be different. Marino states the offset is 35mm by default. How did you deal with this? Did you go with the default 35mm or something else? Do you know how much steeper the effective angle is compared to the actual? BTW, I love the contrast of black and red. It rules.

Chromoly steel is superior to aluminum in every way, especially on a mountain bike and especially a full suspension mountain bike which is not stiff. Aluminum does tend to be stiffer, probably because of the larger and thicker wall, plus it's a characteristic of aluminum to be springy. But outside of stiffness which no mountain bike is stiff because of the suspension, steel is much better. The problem with Chromoly steel is it is literally 10 times the price and that's per ton, not per bike tube. As long as you keep it from rusting, a chromoly steel frame could last your lifetime plus your kid's lifetime. It is extremely tough. Aluminum is the opposite of tough. It will eventually crack in half.
