The bit where you talked about fear....that shook me to the bone. I was rendered utterly speechless. "There is something about fear that I like, I like it a lot. I like to push myself and know what I am capable of. I don't like the feeling of fear and letting it win. It's just that idea of- I am afraid and I am going to win. I am going to beat this fear". I replayed and rewatched that section countless times, realising that i have been living a life governed by fear and anxiety for a long time. That it has been an invisible wrench controlling my actions and limiting my potential. Thank you Sam, for opening my eyes for the first time, for the inspiration I am certain will change so many more for the better

Very few people on this Earth have the ability to live freely as you do... Most of us are slaves within the systems(Gov) we live in.... You can however Educate people to be aware of what they "really" need in life, and that we are NOT free where we live(most of us)... This is why Drug use and Suicide will continue to rise at extreme #'s.. They are already combined the largest cause of death.. So being "unhappy" is the leading cause of death, if you think about it...

This video brought me into tears. Humans have consistently been fascinated with their capacity to harness what has been provided by nature in order for it to become valuable. I know there is nothing wrong with it but sometimes, we humans are deprived of the understanding about nature as a finite living system due to this patronage of flattery. What I love the most about this video is its concept of living and environmental conservation. Living in simplicity and in unity with the care of Mother Earth is indeed one of the highest human realisations

I too grew up on Kauai. Born at Wilcox and raised on beaches and on kokee and the many places between. It's hard to put into words how I feel about Kauai but there is literally no place like home. No place is like Kauai or has the community it does. I am who I am because of that place and the Hawaiians that love the land and share that love with us. Your videos put into words many things I haven't been able to verbalize. No place like home. Thanks for sharing your experiences and what I feel the true spirit of Kauai is. I live in the mainland now but Kauai will forever be the home of my heart and the lessons I learned there I will continue to share with others. Kauai is magic in the phsyical form.

I am presently studying the Hawaiian language and even though I am far, far away, I am learning from the ancient tales a lot about the nature that inspired these tales. And they tell me about my own surroundings in a mysterious way. Remember, there were people there 1,000 years before you and they have many experiences that you cannot learn in just one language, esp not a language that only came to the islands 200 years ago. The Hawaiian language is not only beautiful and fairly easy to learn, but it is full of koana (riddles, enigmas) and wisdom found only there.

Your message at the end .... I feel the same here in Missouri. The more I learned and spent time getting to know the plants, animals, and fungi in all corners of the places I go outdoors, from townscapes to residentual areas, parks, forests, prairies, lakes and streams, the more I appreciate their presence and my want to protect and spread their life force has increased. Getting to know this land as it is now as well as what it used to be, the wildlife and of the native people who lived with and cared for this land, has widened my perspective and I feel I am closer to connecting with this land only because of knowing this. The trauma, hurt, and sadness the native people, wildlife, and the land is experiencing and the generational guilt that is with us who now live on this land needs to be felt in order to find healing. Letting nature express herself in her processes of healing in the form of succession is what I wish could be seen as something invaluable, instead of what many see as a mess that needs to be tidied up. Once you can see the beauty in that mess, we can be closer to her and connected once again. Foraging herbs to eat a truly local diet from nature's wild expression has been one of the best ways I've began to connect with her. Each bite reminds me of this, feeling their presence melting into mine, nourishing and healing both the body and mind. The life force and energy within these plants speaks to me in perhaps a similar way to your spear fishing. Thank you for sharing your message, it is something that is deeply needed across the world. Everyone at some level is craving this connection with the land our ancestors once had. Nature will always welcome us and embrace us, if only we let her in.

Hey man, OhItsGhost again, different account, same dude 😂 “It’s just that idea of i’m afraid, and i’m going to win, i’m going to beat this fear” what an amazing video, editing on point. The fact that you live this life that brings you to so many places but you still say that “my footprint that I am leaving on this earth is a good one” is, i believe, the correct mindset. Not many people really have the belief that the Earth is sacred, to be treated with respect. Growing up, like you, I freedive, spearfish, scuba, hunt, etc. I learned how much the Earth could give, it’s plentiful oceans, forests, environment and I began making sure that what it gave to me, it provided for myself and what I didn’t need, I gave to others. Ensuring that everything that had a use, was used. This video was super inspirational, almost making me want to live on Hawaii! while giving a positive vibe and message, good on ya Capt. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” - Nelson Mandela Thought you may enjoy this quote from a man that knew fear first hand.

Mr. M ... when you use the word "suburbia" I don't think of North Korea, but middle class people that do have the choice to move wherever they want, albeit with the typical constraints that could arise. Most of suburbia imo follows the flow, when in reality they have a choice. Might take some planning, perseverance, and maybe for some it'll never happen, but I saying they have to is a bit misguided.
