@David - First of all, I sincerely appreciate your very kind words, and I'm very glad to know that your are "treasuring" my instruction!! With regard to @aguy3412, he was simply paraphrasing a Caddyshack quote from Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) in response to @johnmcgarty5663 calling me "Tim". No reference to you. Now that that's cleared up, thanks to all in this thread for the support!! You sir are a wizard. A week ago I went and played 18 and shot 118. Was not happy with it and dedicated the following days to watching your videos and learning. Took it to the range a few times and immediately saw improvements. Weight forward was the biggest thing for me as I used to sway and hit behind the ball. Just got back from playing 18 holes and shot a career best 97. I dropped 21 strokes in 6 days with your teachings. I cannot thank you enough for what you do. You are the best gold teacher around! If you don’t think Tom’s teachings will work on you, you’re wrong. Makes it so simple and easy to understand. Made golf so much more fun! Thank you!

hands down, this has been the best golf lesson I have ever seen. I picked up the game 20 years ago and have played off and on for years. Never broke 100. too many thoughts going on in my swing. Went to the range today with what I learned here and the guy next to may came by: "Man you are bombing those shots!! What are you swinging with??" It was my 2 hybrid. going 230 based on the information I received here. Thank you for this lesson!! Happy I subscribed to your channel.

After watching a few of your videos, I actually did manage to improve quite a lot my contact, great tips you have. For me it was: Put that weight on the leading leg, Be diligent with keeping left arm straight and both elbows together, slow down the back swing and prevent the hip from moving, simplify, it really works... I can attest to the fact that there is merit in your method. I've done this and tend to drift away from it from time to time. Tom Saguto. The man who taught me how to hit a golf ball. Over the past six months, everyone tried to change me. Tried to tell me some throwaway tip every time I topped one or sliced my driver. They thought I was a jerk for not trying their useless advice. I chose instead to stick to the system. Now I can pure it consistantly with any club in my bag, while they still struggle time after time. If I ever get the chance for a personal lesson with any coach in the world, it will be Tom Saguto. Thank You Tom.

Hi Tom..this is absolutely golden ! Have used this on a recent round and striped everything off the face, including the driver. No thinning, no fat shots, no slices . Just one question sir, do you advise setting up with ball position in the same place for every club? You’re very forward with your ball here , with what looks like a 7 iron. Thanks 🙏

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Dean; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Golfers! Tom Saguto is the bomb! If you haven't joined his school, I enthusiastically encourage you to do so. I know Tom's youtube lessons are free, but his school guides you through the process of learning all of the S&T fundamentals and building a solid S&T swing. Before I learned this swing I was a 16 handicapper, breaking 80 maybe twice a year. Now I am a 10 handicapper, and dropping, as I break 80 6-8 times a month while playing 2-3 times a week. I'm 72 years old and play courses from 5500 to 6200 yards long. Since learning S&T I rarely hit a fat shot, it's just almost impossible to do if you understand and apply the S&T fundamentals. Tom's school is worth every penny he charges for the course, especially if you are a golfer that plays with a little something on the line.

I sincerely appreciate that, Derek!! It is so rewarding to see the stories of improvement, of the reactions to those first ever crispy compressed, of new personal best scores, of folks hitting it longer now in their 50's, 60's, 70's than they did 20 years ago. It is tremendously rewarding. Did I see it coming? No - not to nearly this extent. I just knew what worked for me and changed my golfing life, and I just wanted to share that with as many folks as I could. YT offered a great forum for doing so, but at the time there was no way to anticipate the scale. Thanks so much for your very kind words and support! Tom

Another awesome video. I play on a league (9 holes) and my average has been 51 for the last 3 years, mostly due to the unavoidable bad contact iron shot on pretty much every hole. Earlier this year I finally started seeing your "weight forward" videos and have been consciously implementing that concept in my iron game. If you were to recalculate my average since the beginning of this season it would be 46. Now I just need some "driving for dummies" videos Mr. Saguto! :) Thanks again for making things make sense.

Awesome!! 💪💪 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and I'm thrilled to learn of your dramatic improvement by implementing elements of this fantastic swing system! With regard to the driver, it's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. By the way, if you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Nice job, Andrew!! With regard to the "SagutoGolf stance", weight forward 55/45 (up to 60/40 with the longer clubs), both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward, arms hanging naturally from the shoulders (except for the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft), and hands even with the inside of the lead thigh are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. Keep up the great work! I love the video production in this one. High quality! Looks like the "wrench" approach with the weight more heavily put on the left side then the traditional 55 to 60%. Is that correct? Also appears in the video angle that you have the ball maybe 2" or so inside the left heel. Like maybe two balls back from the left shoulder? Is that the case? Fantastic video! Thanks Tom!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Jeffrey!! In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. As for ball position, we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. Thanks! Got to thank you for your 2 basic lessons 1. Weight forward and staying on the left against wall and 2. Lead arn straight 3. ( though you didn't focus on it) left chin and shoulder tucked under and down on backswing and right shoulder down and through with arms straight and at a y at impact and just beyond. I did this ball after ball for nearly 300 balls and only hit 4 to 10 topped and or thin balls when I had the ball position too far fwd and didnt rotate my shouler down and through. Your tips and your work with the first time golfer amazed me causing Crispy repeatable draw after draw shots. Though I didn't use driver or 3 wood So excited to finally once and for all use your system. Hey Tom, I’m having great success at the range with Stack and Tilt. Question: do you have students to struggle repeating it on the course? I believe my problem is that I see the trouble ahead of me and fail to make a deep enough backswing and/or rush the downswing, causing slices, vs on the range it’s crispy KFC. Appreciate your generous and thoughtful responses as always!

I'm glad to learn of your improvement, Paul! Those "ghosts of swings past" can be quite stubborn, and conquering them through regular proper practice is a part of the process. As your practice performance becomes more and more consistent and you ingrain your new "feels", then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of actual play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing. By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this S&T swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform, please consider my online school. Have you joined yet? It is far superior to haphazardly piecing things together through a series of YT videos. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Absolutely 100% on board with this approach for irons. Weight forward, ground contact point in front of the ball. However this is not the case with driver as the contact point should be behind the ball as its on a tee and to get an upward strike. Videos i have seen in the past of Tom's have said there is no difference between the two shots but id like to know if he still thinks this is the case? This point has been driving me mad. I know a lot of pros are at 0 or slightly less for angle of attack with driver but im not a pro and lose distance with my 100mph driver swing if i dont hit up on it. Perhaps a video detailing how to get the most out of the driver for those non-pros amongst us. Swinging driver at 120 vs 100 (or less) makes a big difference. Great content as always Tom, really enjoyed this one.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed this video, Jim! Yes - Weight-forward also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! It IS Stack and Tilt, and it's far more prevalent now than it was YEARS ago - you just don't hear many folks calling it that since it really has become THE golf swing! Here is the story of my "conversion": kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn6bnYGEp7KDe80 And here is an episode documenting my week at S&T Instructor Camp in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2rUlYOFr76Ijbc This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their research and subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style. Thank you for teaching to the realistic level of golf 99% of people can play. The other "instructors" are trying to teach things that are meant for the high level golfer that already has these things figured out. Most people don't have time to practice hours each day to be able to implement those instructions into their game, ending in so many moving parts that throws people off.

Took this to the range and it worked very well! This coupled with keeping right arm (trail arm) tucked, lead arm straight and pivoting shoulders had me hitting very nice shots! Question: ball placement. Where do you place it in your stance? It almost looks like it is in line with your lead heel. I dont know if that is just my perception from the camera angle. I think I've seen in another one of your videos placing it a club head from your lead and then moving your trail closer or furthet dependent on the club.

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing! Yes - we need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. Thanks for sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Awesome job figuring it out on your own, even if it took you a while!! Colden was the name, right? Awesome job 👏 just as your teacher who eliminates variables from this difficult game like no one else. Really, really helpful and easy to understand. This will be the drill I will excercise with my girlfriend who just started and struggles as we all did with inconsistent strikes

Hi Tom, thank you very much for the video! Very interesting! And what I like, is that you taught this guy a lesson! I think THIS is the way for a new TEACHING videos! ALL of the golf videos just show the golf pro hitting balls! Of cause we know, you CAN play golf as a pro! So its a absolutely GREAT idea, to embedding guys and girls to the videos and show the viewers HOW to appliance your swing ideas! 😃😀👍👍👍

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! It was actually a completely spontaneous moment that neither Colden nor I had pre-planned - as you could likely tell from his wardrobe choices 😆 - but he did fabulously well, right? - and especially for a true beginner!! I've featured others in past videos and will continue to do so when the opportunity arises. Thanks!!
