Thanks for sharing! Some of my goals are… - NO MORE BLACK. EVER. I’m removing it from my wardrobe for good and not buying any more. Only true Autumn colours, per my analysis. - Become best friends with my tailor. I have so many clothes that are 90% perfect, and a simple trip to the tailor would make it 100%. Enough laziness. - Get fully ready for the day (unless truly sick, doing gross housework, etc.). Clothes, accessories, hair, makeup. The whole thing ensemble. - Secondhand first. There are VERY few things so urgent that I cannot wait until I can find it secondhand. - Wear things out. Consigning and donating have been amazing, but it’s time to stop relying on those options. Time to wear stuff out. And if it’s not something I am willing to commit to wearing out, I won’t buy it. Hope you’re having a great January! Love from Vancouver!

For 2025, I am taking a pause from clothing purchases AND from decluttering any of my clothes. I want to use and appreciate everything that I have, which is also so much more than I need. I have made a list of items I may want to let go of at the end of the year, and my intention is to go to those first when getting dressed. I don't feel super-rigid about this--if I really need something, I will get it--but it is amazing to see already how many "needs" aren't needs at all. And when I see something I might want to buy, it is so easy to ask myself, "is this worth breaking the pause for?" and that's that. No purchase made. Your channel has been an inspiration and has given me the behavioral tools I need to put this in place and see it through. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing! You are changing people's lives. 💖

A big Amen to daily gratitude! It does help. I write a few sentences per day in a journal that is actually three years of days. I really enjoyed doing this last year and look forward to finishing it, and keeping it like a scrapbook with printed photos, too. I'm going to give these journals to my twin sons someday. I keep thinking of Vivienne Westwood's famous quote: "Buy less, choose well, make it last." This is the rule I pretty much have in my head every time I buy any clothing or accessories. It works well for me! "Spending more" isn't part of that at ALL. Because quality doesn't always match cost. My goal is to not have ANYTHING to get rid of after Christmas, 2025.

I do a reverse hanger and half and half. So I start with everything with the hangers facing the wrong way, if I wear it then I move the hanger the “right way” and then if I wear it again I move it to one side of my closet. That way I know which pieces I’m wearing 0, 1, 2+ times. I have a small closet so it helps me see easily what pieces I’m not reaching for over the year and then deciding are they just an occasion piece or no longer serving me. It also helps me look at styling my clothes rather than just shopping. This process has also helped me find if there are any “gaps” that I need to find or do I have something else that can fill that “need.”
@michellerojas95459 күн бұрын
For wearing all my clothes, on 2024 I started turning the hangers to mark what I had worn already so I would get to a point that I was looking for those hangers that I hadn’t turned yet and made myself create an outfit with it. That’s how I found some items that made me uncomfortable and that’s why I didn’t grab them often… so I declutter those and it also helped me find some items that I truly like but I just need to practice styling them more. It was also a good way to see my “go to. I did a round and now I am on my second round of turning hangers.

Great idea... I need to try this when it warms up... too cold to try and wear some of my tops...lol However, I've paired down some sweatshirts for donations already because I don't grab for them... so that's a bit of progress for the winter season at least. 💜

At the beginning of the year, I decided no buy on clothes til March 1. The fact that we're only at January 19 and I feel like I haven't bought an item of clothing in actual months shows how quickly I was accumulating things. Gross. But I'm loving it, I have so much more free time away from the Poshmark and TRR scrolling.

My goal this year is to focus on quality over quantity. I won't be buying on shein or other fast fashion. I want to save up to buy good quality pieces that look fabulous and last long. And of course aligns to my personal style. Same with accessories. Owning a few fabulous statement pieces and daily wear pieces and no more cheap accessories that rust over time.

For my birthday in November I bought a stylish MUCH smaller jewelry box for my everyday accessories and curated it to my best quality and/or most stylish favorite pieces only. I donated and gave away a few items, but the rest of my costume jewelry or old keepsakes I never wear, are in my old jewelry box and stored away. It has made me feel so much more polished, and makes it easier to find my go to items each day.

My main rule for this year is to do barely any shopping, however if I do it will only be for absolute winners that I adore and that will be a workhorse in my wardrobe. I already have all the clothes a girl could possibly wear and I also want to just love, enjoy and play with what I have rather than chasing after the next thing. That also means dialling WAY back on KZbin.

i like how you reframed the concept of dupes. Focusing on why am I drawn to that piece - what are the elements that I like (like you said: red. pointed toe, patent, silver hardware) and then maybe being open to finding another brand or vintage/second hand that has something similar. If i can't really articulate those elements then maybe I am only being drawn to it because I've seen it on someone else, its on a list of trends, or just because its the brand and wanting to have that thing without articulating why/what - usually those purchases end up being the mistakes if you are just hunting for a "dupe" for the wrong reasons.

For me purging my wardrobe often is a gamechanger. It makes me really take regular inventory of all my belongings and what has stayed past its prime. I know it sounds kind of time consuming but it helps me more when I set aside stuff for a local high school's thrift closet, for clothing swaps with adventurous younger friends, and then basics to traditional charity shops. For example I don't need 3 Fjallraven Kanken backpacks when I only use one. Donating them and hearing about high school girls squealing with glee to get gently used $80 backpacks was so wonderful to hear.

Once you’ve worn or laundered an item, hang it back up on the left side of your closet rod…that way everything files down to the right side and that’s what you’ll be dressing with. It will allow you to see the pieces that you don’t wear often and decide the fate of those few pieces you just don’t really love and that don’t really represent you.

Shopping in person is huge!!! I'm personally tired of using my bedroom as a fitting room. You don't get to see, feel, or try it on if you are shopping online. Due to changes in my body, I now have to order multiple sizes to try and find the right fit for my body. Plus, the time consumption of having to return items to the store or the post office is a drag. Of course, the downside is that there are so much online shopping now, that the depth and breadth of items in a brick and mortar is so much less than it used to be. 🤷♀
@Treacle8993 күн бұрын
That’s been my preferred method of shopping. Plus it’s fun, especially if you go with someone. Bonus for more social interaction vs screen time. Another benefit, you can always try in-person and order online if you need a specific color/size.

I’m in the process of switching out polyester and synthetic clothing, for 90%/10%-100% natural/synthetic. Which is a huge undertaking. All my pajamas and underwear are 95% bamboo. Having strict and picky requirements for purchasing new clothes has made the biggest difference.

I relate to the shoes problem 😅 I live in central Sweden (probably a relatively similar climate to where you live!) and commute to my work by bike. So I am always wearing my practical boots to avoid getting too cozy with the ice on the pavement 😂 but I have started to keep my nice white sneakers in my office and change when I get there in the morning. They go well with everything so I feel a bit cooler 😊 (In general, it is really common to switch out of your outdoor shoes in Swedish workplaces to avoid tracking slush everywhere, but I don't know if this is common anywhere else?)

My plan is to wear everything in my closet. Once it is worn and washed, I will hang it backwards so I can see what hasn't been used yet. This way, I won't wear the same item more often than others.
@alison61824 күн бұрын
I totally got the last two intentions, because I've been working on the same! Buying the [clothing or makeup] "dupe" has more often than not led me to crave the higher quality item more, and end up purchasing it anyway. There's usually a downside to a cheap copy. I've also been learning to think about what specific features and qualities I'm looking for, instead of browsing a particular brand for something to want. It's so important to know your wardrobe and the gap you need to fill, rather than buying something because you like the brand and the item is cute. I have too many unworn clothes and shoes because I wasn't mindful of my inventory.

I think it's also because of the judgment we think we could get if we repeat outfits (imo nobody really cares).

you are so correct that no one really cares if we repeat outfits. A few years in the past I feel that I "saved" my cutest most put-together looks because I didn't want to wear them too often. But due to that I would wear really boring combinations that did nothing for me. Now I would rather have like 6 super cute put together outfits that I wear in heavy rotation and no "boring" looks at all. When I think of some of the most stylish women I've known in real life they often repeated their cutest looks!

Are you still a stylist and customer of Indyx? How are you using the app to help you style this year?

I love your videos! All of them. They’ve become part of my self-care routine and have helped me be more intentional with my spending and habits. Thank you so much for all that you do. 😊❤

Doing a low buy for clothing. Purchased 24 pieces for my wardrobe last year. Need to improve on that! Wear and style what I already have. When I do want something, buy what I want.

#10 buy what you actually want. Is what I’ll be working on. I usually want the item right away so I buy something cheaper. Then I end up still wanting the original item.

So I’ll be saving for the original item instead in 2025

Have you tried candle meditation? It can help if you have a busy mind & there are realistic candle apps for phones for travelling/places you can’t have a candle. I love keeping things in my Save for Later basket on Amazon because I so often decide not to buy them once “later” comes. It’s good how you’re honest about doing this as part of being a recovering shopaholic. My goal is to only wear clothes that fit me now (losing weight that crept up on me in 2024) & that feel like “me”. Goal 2 is to embrace “medium” as my key style word: medium shoulders, medium-tall, medium curve (wavy), medium brown hair, neutral-cool skin, medium-high contrast. I like how I look but I don’t fit easily into many style classification systems because of it, so I might get a colour analysis done as part of this. Goal 3 is to really hone in on my style roots (earth, mushroom, fire, I think). Goal 4 is to get underwear that fits me comfortably now. Even though it’s expensive, it’s worth it for something I wear every day.

I've probably stated this before, but when it comes to style, you look amazing in a moto jacket!!!

Yes! All of this. I’m at the point where I don’t want more clothing unless I’m getting rid of something or if I feel a gap of not having an item *frequently* before buying.. then I’ll buy it. Otherwise it’s just clutter!

Even though I shop almost exclusively secondhand, I fell into the over-shopping online trap in 2024. My goal for 2024 is stop and ask myself, “if I’m patient, could I thrift something like that locally in store?” I also devoted a good chunk of my holiday break from work to catalog my entire closet on Indyx. When I get the urge to scroll thredup or poshmark, I open the app and style pieces I already own instead.

Oops. I meant my goal for 2025. Writing 2024 is the most difficult old habit to break of all.

Thanks! I like your plan a lot, so I may follow it, with the exception of I need more basics/WOF because I'm just starting. Really trying to make this year a slower buy year, but of course the shapes and colors I want are trendy this year 😂
