Nice to see you Brett. Had some training on something similar for the industry I used to work in... a general word of caution though.... Users still need to very quickly deal with the injury before the lack of blood to the rest of the tissue south of the tourniquet results in more complications. Also factor in the amount of time the tourniquet has been on. The blood “trapped” beneath it can give the patient toxic shock when it's released. I'm not saying, don’t carry them but education on how to deal with the initial injury is super important. Jeez, I sound like our old safety manager when he gave us “toolbox talks”... Stay safe everyone.

In 2018 there was a terrorist incident in Toronto near where I live where some guy in a van mounted the sidewalk and killed several people, and the same year a mass shooting one summer evening. I have been first aid qualified for decades but took a 'Stop the Bleed' course at a Trauma centre here and have carried a CAT and a cargo pocket small kit (with compressed gauze, an Israeli Bandage and gloves) since.

One of those things you never hope you use!! Here in South Africa (like Oz) many cell phone towers and power places are very remote and the technicians should carry this as the snakes like to live in the installations and a CAT could be the difference between life (loose a leg tho) and death.

A compression bandage would be a far better for that use case, and much less chance of loosing a leg, unless the venom destroys the tissue anyway.

Thanks for mentioning about knock-offs. Life save equipment is not a place to try and save a few bucks. I would also suggest looking at training as well. Here in the US we have “Stop the Bleed” which is good or you can seek out specialize Trauma care first aid classes. Think of it as kitting out your brain for remote travel.

Can I suggest you also explore inflatable splints, which are light to carry and can be blown up to support broken arms or legs?

1) Thank you for showing these devices. I shall plan to do the same when my Troopy is kitted out. 2) I believe that everyone should do an Advanced First Aid course each year with St John's Ambulance. The skills are perishable and when confronted with having to perform first aid it is daunting and stressful to remember and then apply skills learned even a year before. Practice practice practice.

I think the key part of the benifit of these is using them for the correct injury. Limbs have been lost (unnessaraliy) due to untrained use of tourniquets.

I have something similar apparently known as an “Israeli bandage”, presumably due to their invention in Israel. Similar to what you have there but in bandage form so it can absorb some of the blood and aid clotting.

Let's hope you never have to use it. I think you'd be better mounting it in a central location as oppose to over your head. If the vehicle ended up on it's side and you happen not be wearing your seatbelt, you'd be somewhere in the passenger footwell and not be able to reach that or the hammer. Maybe you could put it by the base of the gear stick so you'd stand more chance of reaching it from wherever. That would also be beneficial if there was a passenger, both of you could reach. It's only a suggestion. 👍

Not ideal, a compression bandage would be far better. But if you have no other option, and don't mind the potential loss of a limb, then it may be an option. And a correction, I paid $90 for the 2 units, not $100 each. I should've checked my receipt before filming.

Not recommended as you may loose the limb from lack of blood flow. A compression bandage would be a better option. But if limb or death and there's no other option, then probably better than nothing.

I have yet to see Tourniquet used in my 60 years on the planet not to say it cant but for the majority I just dont see a need for one and they are so easy to DIY if one is at all needed but hay spend your money on everything shiny if you want....

A DIY version is basically useless.. these are designed to completely compress the arteries and stop the blood flow. As anyone trained, i.e medics, military, they won't leave the house with one.
