Thanks for the shoutout Tim and glad that resonated with you. You have been hitting the shops pretty hard and doing well. We only have our one store here in Ithaca however if I take a 4.5 hour drive I have nyc to tend to so perhaps I need to get down there more often. Regardless that is why I tend to buy more online these days. Instagram has been kind. Cool to see those Neil originals. I have Sleeps With Angels (which is highly underrated) but need Mirror Ball. That album is a bit mixed for me but if I saw it, I would take it home. Awesome Herbie score there and would love that pink Island Fairport. I have a very nice blue UK Island here. Cheers and be well!

I’m waiting for Tums to come out with a Pumpkin Spice! 😂 Record collecting is as fun a we make it. Burnout comes having it to easy. Getting spoiled by great records coming to us versus the thrill of the hunt. Great Mayfield record! Great Hancock titles. That Roxy Music pressing sounds amazing! Clash is a winner! Congrats on all the great additions to your collection!

After more than 45 years of collecting vinyl and CDs, I think I have finally reached total burnout. With new audiophile reissues costing between $60-$125 from MoFi, and $60-$150 from Chad at AP, and the ridiculous prices on beat up noisy originals, it’s taken all the fun out of record buying and collecting. I still enjoy buying some of the Rhino reissues such as the RHF series. There’s also several titles coming from Rhino in October with their ‘Rocktober’ series.

Thats a heck of a selection Tim. I'm always a bit suprised that Mozzer & Marr say 'Strangeways' is their favourite, as a Smiths devotee I find it hit & miss, but theres some of my favourite tracks on it. ''I Wont Share You' is a wonderful sign off. Marr wrote it in about 2 minutes apparently. That 'nothing priced' is one of the oldest sales tricks in the book, they know that once youre at the counter your more likely to buy, even if you think its overpriced..especially if youre English as we're too polite & dont want to upset anyone!🤣

Tim - you should check the center labels on your Nothing Shocking.. If it has a Rooster printed on one side and a flame on the other, you got a keeper for sure! 👍🏼

I've definitely have felt the effects of burnout when it comes to collecting. The past year, I tried to focus more on my setup and listening area. I've very spoiled here, I'm a short drive from Noble Records and Dillion always keeps the store stocked with gems. Like you, I'm trying to focus more on finding upgraded copies when I can. Great video as always!

Next time in Vegas you MUST. go to Moondogs. All used ,alll priced and no one to tell you " You can't afford them " before you head towards another section. Great jazz selection and rock .

I've owned different copies of Curtis. There's a 2lp black vinyl pressing from Run Out Groove that sounds phenomenal. I'm referencing the double hype stickered Made in Netherlands copy.

Nice summer finds Tim! I have a few of those titles and they do sound great. Unfortunately there is no sign of fall here in Texas.. Except, of course, the Pumpkin Spice BS. 😂

I fully understand your different/new view of collecting. I also became more selective and concentrate more and more on looking for test pressings. As only a few copies are printed, the quality is in most cases excellent. I guess some of them never have been played. Actually I have 150+ TP's and 20+ Promos. One of the rarest in my collection is 'The Stranger' from Billy Joel you also presented. Mine is a UK TP pressing from 1998. I wish you good luck in your future hunting for rare records. Brgds. I’m now on the lookout for a RL The Stranger. Hearts & Bones is a great album! Nice finds!!
@jeffreylind3739Ай бұрын
Great video, Tim. Looks like you've had a great Summer with your collecting and pick-ups! The RL cut of "The Stranger" was the first press/issue, not the second. Ted Jensen was assigned to re cut after sales exploded. I have never liked the TJ cut- I found it to be flat, lifeless and borderline shrill on some parts. Clearly RL had the better "ear" on this release, and the difference between the two cuts can certainly be heard. Finding a Quiex II of "Hearts and Bones" in NM condition isn't always easy, but you can get a first Japanese pressing that uses US metalwork and is every bit as good/better than the US version. You are very fortunate to have several shops to look for records. Unfortunately in my city of nearly 250K people, including 10 Colleges- we have ONE record store! Anything else is at least a 1+ hr. drive each way.

Nice scores! You have a knack for being in the right place. Gotta say. Like you I am after the Quiex pressings and have scored several and most of them wipe out the MFSL copies I have purchased. Unfortunately, they are pricey and I found a list of around 200 albums that were done with Quiex. Guess I might need a 2nd mortgage! As usual, good video and congrats!

Hi Tim, in your opinion what are the top 3 US pressing plants we should be looking for when shopping for used records ?

I picked up a 1987 DMM pressing of the Herbie Prisoner album from someone on Discogs a year or two ago, just listened to it a few weeks ago... 😁 VERY nice find on that 1st pressing Tim! I have several early Herbie albums on the Black 'B' label, and of course the mind blowing Analog Productions 2-45 Head Hunters. If you ever have a chance to get that one, don't pass it up! Ah, very nice finds on the UK pressings! I have a 1st US pressing of Nothing Shocking (great album!) that I bought when it came out. I have the recent RSD pressing of Ritual... that actually sounds pretty good. I'm VERY jealous of the 4AD pressing of The Breeders. I have the 1-LP remaster that sounds 'Okay', but I bet yours sounds great! I did try the more recent 2-LP remaster, it may have even been done by Chris Bellman, but I didn't like the way it sounded. I did pick up the more recent release by them, that one does sound pretty good. I don't know if you're a Linkin Park fan, but the recent standard pressings are quite surprisingly excellent! I like Meteora so much, and watched Dave Denyer's review of the Hybrid Theory 1-Step (he has like a $100,000+ system!) He raved about it so much, that I went out on a limb and bought the Meteora 1-Step. I VERY rarely buy expensive 'Audiophile' pressings like that, but yeah, as fantastic as the standard pressing is (and it is plenty good enough) the 1-Step done by Levi at Black Belt Mastering is frigg'n MIND BLOWING! I would have never, EVER thought a pressing taken from the Hi-Res file could possibly sound this good. The guy is an F'n magician!

Heard good things about Levi! Not into Linkin but might pick up a Green Day Levi pressing when they come out.

Roots by Curtis Mayfield is the last I want to get from him. The Smiths were not together long enough to be past their prime. After Miles, Herbie Hancock is my favorite Jazz artist. Mirror Ball is such a good record. Of course I bought it on CD. There is nothing shocking with what happened at the Janes Addiction concert. A very good batch of records.

Awesome scores on Mirror Ball and Sleeps with Angels! His 90s run of SwA, Mirror Ball, Broken Arrow and Year of the Horse is the best run of albums for him outside the Ditch Trilogy, imo. I had all those on vinyl (except SwA) in my old collection 😞. It's taking forever for the reissues of those, but they should be the next to come. I still haven't gotten the Ragged Glory reissue, which, from what I've read, was made from an analog tape that simultaneously recorded along with the digital tape machine that was used for the original. It's still not an all-analog signal path, but likely is higher fidelity than the 1994 digital master. I'm hoping something similar exists for SwA. Mirror Ball may have been recorded to analog tape? But I digress....congrats on finding those in the wild, that's amazing!

Oh, one more thing, Jack Irons's drumming on Mirror Ball is some of the best rock drumming you'll ever hear, imo. Super rocking and driving, yet pocket for days.
