Today we unbox and setup my new work machine, a remarkably cheap 9th gen Dell Optiplex 7070 Small Form Factor I won brand new in box on eBay.

This Dell unboxing was actually surprizingly interesting to be, because I've never had a brand new pre-buildt system.

Take a look at the Quadro P400 P600 P620. Far better than the 1030 for compute stuff

Not a bad shout! P620 is fairly modern ish and cheap too.

@@WillThePlank Yeah, same generation so hopefully cheap enough to be worth it.

It's interesting to see someone who's not really deep into this space of adding GPU's to old office PC's noticing the open ended x4 slot and realizing that you can install a dual slot GPU in it, while people in that space completely miss that and misinform people telling them they can only install a single slot GPU. And for the GPU, the GT 1030 is a horrible value, and you can get something like the Qudro P1000 for cheap and have A LOT more computer power and more VRAM. It's also single slot as well. Even the P620 would be a better option than the 1030 and should really cost you more. As for the power supply, you don't need to upgrade it for something like the 1030 or the P620 or P1000. However, if you want to, you have a lot of options as any of the power supplies Dell uses in the tower or SFF Optiplex models are interchangeable from the xx50 series to the xx70 series. The xx80/xx90 power supplies should work as well. That gives you a lot of drop in options. There's 180, 200, 240, 260, 300 (XE3 SFF), 360 (XE3 MT) and 500 (xx80/90) watt options. There might be others as well, but the 300, 360 and 500 watt options all have PCIe power if you find you need it.

I have the same Dell 7070 and you can only use a Single Slot card. Even with a single slot card there is only 5mm gap between the card and the psu.

@@TheSaabClinicUK As he pointed out in the video, the x4 slot is open ended and you can install a dual slot x16 card in that x4 slot. Is it ideal? No, but you can do it.

Is that a soundcraft EFX12 or similar in the background? I know its not the topic but it looks similar to something I use in my local village pantomime! Great video also

Can’t remember off the top of my head, but I believe it is or a similar model…use it just for playback these days from my main sound card.

Ive got the same Dell SFF and your a bit limited to what cards you can use as it needs to be a "Single width card, with no PSU power". Best options seem to be a ATI RX6400 LP, or a Geforce GTX 750ti LP. I also put a i7 4790 in mine, you can find them for approx £30.
