They literally are not the same guy swapped. It's no more a race swap than Bucky replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America. It is literally a new guy using the hero brand.

Mr. Terrific is black in the comics. There was an older incarnation of the character who was white, but most people don't even remember him because he wasn't all that popular. The two are completely different characters with different names and backstories, and this version of the character has been well established in comics and cartoons since 1997.

Technically he's not an OG black hero. He's predated by Terry Sloane. Terry Sloane was Mr. Terrific in 1942, Michael Holt didn't come around until 1997. So Terry Sloane was Mr. Terrific in the comics for 45 years prior to Michael Holt replacing him. Michael Holt has an impressive 27 years now, but Terry Sloane's run was still longer.

Overwhelmingly it appears to be a reasonably adequate portrayal of all of the things, characters and world plus super dog💛 it seems busy but hopeful and not purposefully antagonistic against what is basically a simple herculean story. basically surprisingly heteronormative considering illegal space, alien and Doggo and others plus a dragon apparently because there’s always time for dragon.😳 I don’t know. The whole thing at least seems genuinely intended to be heartfelt and entertaining. You don’t have to pay to be made sad and feel dirty. That’s a pleasant change.

My first reaction to the trailer was...."Meh." Even if this movie has an accomplish director behind it, I don't trust current day Hollywood writers to be able to deliver a competent, well written, superhero story (or any story). With that said, I hope the movie is great and gives us a Superman for this new era. Also I agree with wanting this to be a Superman Centric movie. Gotta disagree on one point, Melonie, and that is how superhero movies always play into other superhero movies. That's the nature of the comic book industry. That's what comics do. That's the story structure that these characters come from. So superhero movies that play into/inform/world build into other movies and characters (ie. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc.), that's what comic book fans expect.

There have been two Mr Terrific characters. The original being Terry Sloane and then later Michael Holt. The Michael Holt version of the character never really was a major character, he first appeared in a Specter comic in 97, and finally got his own short lived comic during the New 52 in 2011. The comic ended in 2012 after only eight issues. The fact a very minor character is getting uplifted to major character status for this film, is an early sign of woke nonsense. The film may not be that, but so far it's got early warning signs. This will very likely end up being like the marvel films, where nothing is serious or really impactful, since characters keep making stupid jokes the entire time. The fact Krypto is in this film, is likely proof of that. James Gunn usually does dark comedy or comedic characters, pretty much everything Superman is not. Superman is meant to be a hopeful, positive, and uplifting character, and that's not something Gunn is known for.

This could be good or at least adequate. Being great can require a lot that Mr. Gunn may not have. I don't know. Sometimes it requires the show to be a period piece. Bewitched, for example, only works in the time period it came out. The Christopher Reeve movies only really work in the time they came out. Right now we are a society that know it has to change the way they have been doing things, but many will oppose the change regardless of the fact that the change is inevitable. The DC Universe, looked at a whole, is a world where the increasing quantity of people have super powers. The old way of their society worked is rapidly not working anymore. They have to adapt, but not all are willing to allow what is unavoidable. I don't know if Mr. Gunn has what it takes to write such a thing, but we will see. I will reserve judgement until I see it.

I didn't want Cavil as Superman. I Love him as an actor but he isn't Superman. Everyone saying, "OMG Superman has to be buff and chiseled!". Da faq? How do you think he would build those muscles? I grew up with Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent. I will always love his portrayal of BOTH. Nobody I feel will ever replace Chris Reeve. That said. I liked this trailer.

I watched Superman Returns with my dad before he died and it was last movie he actually liked. As a kid I liked number 3 and as an adult I like Superman 1978 and Superman Returns. Pretend we kept theatrical version of Superman 2 where Superman didn't just rewind all events like in first. It was a cop out alternative ending later determined cannon. Love cheesy return on flag at ending of theatrical release version, saying: I am sorry I let you down, I won't do it again. - We need that. Reliability and stability.

The actor they picked does look like a younger Henry Cavill. I’m sure that is only going to piss off Henry Cavill fans. I wonder if the only reason they did this is because they’re afraid Henry Cavill will age faster than their planned timeline for the movies. Superman also is supposed to age slower than humans, and it’s easier to create that illusion with a 30-year-old actor. Still, they could still have Henry Cavill play an older Superman from the future. Anyone else agree the resemblance is close enough to get away with that?

I like Henry Cavill Superman but even in Man of Steel they made an Injustice Gods Among Us which never really manifested out after James Gunn took over, and everyone I know is thinking " when is good Superman going to face the evil one like in the Superman 2 movie with Christopher Reeves " . I'm not to fond of James Gunn work because in many of his shows he makes Rep look evil and makes oxymoron terms like he did in the show John Cena was in. Thanks 😊 for your review. James Gunn is also really good at what he does - so I like the potential we are seeing. This is more of a throw back to the Christopher Reeves era once again. Man of Steel was awesome but they kind of ran Henry Cavel's Super Man into the ground with Justice League. The guy with the weird hair is a comic accurate green lantern. Krypto the super dog. Mr Terrific. Hawk Girl. These are all normal characters that Super Man would interact with.

This movie is a 9/10 for Superman fans who read the comics : This movie isnt for Zack Snyder Superman fans it is for the comic book community and those who loved the Christopher Reeve's version of Superman. You obviously cannot please everyone, and I am ok with that because I think this movie will do good upon release. This movie brings in the DC Universe as it is in the comic books and how comic books are written you hardly ever read a Superman comic without a cameo from another Superhero.
