This is an excellent guide to how to grow squash in warm climate. I am from Cairo, Egypt, last year I tried to grow Rouge Vif d'etampe, and the plant succumb to all sort of disease come May, I started it in first of March, I kept a couple of immature fruits and we ate them like summer squash, they were delicious btw. This year I will start them in Jan as you advised, and I will keep sowing every other week to experiment. and the Hydrogen Peroxide / Spinosad is a good advice. Thank you!

I tried growing Seminole pumpkins a few years ago once and they did not do well at in Deltona where I live. This year I am planting five or so varieties of squashes and they r doing amazing! My garden is looking like a jungle because of them. There’s flowers and fruits everywhere. I have picked close to ten patty pan squashes already. The largest which I didnt see during all my harvest got bigger than my face!!! It’s so fun!!

Your squashes look so nice! Even the Burgess (I think it looks lovely; don't hurt the lil guy's feelings). Could I ask you to type out the name of the pattypan squash from Johnny Seeds? I think the subtitling software mangled it. Another very thorough and informative video; you just keep getting better! Thank you! My squash vines are....surviving, but I don't think anything will come of them, unfortunately, so your video is keeping me from writing the whole group off.

Jaune et verte. I think it’s French. The more I eat the Burgess, the more beautiful I think it is, lol. I’ll take a closer look to the subtitle software. Some of these names are hard for it.

I did want to ask you about my Summer Squash / Yellow Squash and Cucumbers. Fist off my Summer Squash did not do very well at all. The fruits never matured as if they were not getting pollinated, although I was pollinating them myself. That is not my question though, I am hoping that my next attempt will do better. Now my Cucumbers and Yellow squash have done well. My question, when it comes to these three plants, is will I have to clear them out around June or July and replant them in August? I just want to be prepared. What standard vegetables are perennial, as my Bell Peppers seem to be?
@HomegrownFloridaZ9a
@HomegrownFloridaZ9a Жыл бұрын
Yes, you will want to clear them out and then replant them around August. You can try and let them keep going but more likely than not, they will start to fade on their own through the summer. There are some perennial veggies like walking onions, asparagus, pigeon peas, chayote squash, hibiscus for greens, sunchokes… Also tons of fruit like bananas, mulberries, avocados, starfruit… There is a book on Amazon that has a list of perennials called “Create your own food forest” by David the good.
