Thanks for the tips. I live in Florida zone 10a I have always started my carrots using a thin wet paper towel and covering them with a thin layer of seed germination soil water and cover with some thick black plastic to keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. This has always worked for me 💯 of the time. The soil stays moist.

I quit using bone meal because I find it draws fire ants to my garden. Also carrots are a host plant for the black swallowtail butterflu, so I am happy to see those caterpillars - I don't consider them a pest.
