Love this. Thanks for breaking it down to its core. This helped me.

The Edge is a skilled man he has created the U2 sound. They were at one point the biggest band in the world. Not as skilled as many but you know him on the 1st note

Thanks for this Bob! Fully agree about how people tend to overcomplicate it. You can get a long way with one echo, a little grit, and the right technique. I also love the scratchy sound that The Edge gets from using the textured side of a pick. I think he uses a Herdim or something but you can get more or less the same thing with Dunlop Nylon Standards or the Dunlop Herco reissues. Really lovely sound, produces a whole bunch of overtones, really nice for other genres too.

Been wondering for some time about the edges Spund thanks for sharing…

great video! there are 4 ingredients to the basic edge sound: strat with the pickup selector between the bridge and middle pickups, a vox ac30 (or 15 or 10) thru the “top boost channel”, the herdim pick used with the textured portion of the pick, and a proper percussive delay. edge used the memory man deluxe at the beginning. i use an ehx canyon. but the returns on the delay need to hit with that “chunky” sound.

Beautiful sound and yes one of the best guitarist ever. I grew up listening to u2 but it was all about the edge for me.

Thanx Bob... ...and can't wait to see more plunking on that Junior you do in a band context

At a gig, to synchronize your delay to the drum tempo perfectly, just play all six strings muted and let the drummer use that like a count in. In essence you reverse roles. The guitar repeat takes the place of the drummers "stick click" for the count in

I've said it many times over the years to my metalhead buddies who always made fun of The Edge. The Egde works smarter not harder, he's mastered the art of making one note sound like 5.

Start with a blue Herdim pick and use the rough side. Then go from there.

Thanks for watching this older video. I’m going to have to look back at it and see if it’s still any good or could be improved 😬

Most importantly Edge uses the Fractal Axe effects
@thebobandramonshow Жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that but as an owner of an Axe-Fx I can easily see why, control over every imaginable parameter. But I understand he still also sweeps up every Kong A3 he can get his hands on. Again no surprise from my ownership of one as the unit has a particular percussive as to the delay’s attack which other units lack. Which is why I keep mine.

Problem is I can't take any guitarist seriously who calls himself the school boy name of 'The Edge' What the hell is with that, it's stupid.

I absolutely loathe U2 and the Edge’s playing, still I’m going to like and support this video by leaving this comment because I like you guys and I love the show. All personal opinions and feelings on U2 and the Edge are completely my own. I’m not here to rough any feathers. I’m not saying they’re a bad band or anything like that. Not putting them down. If you like/love the Edge and U2, I can definitely respect that. I acknowledge U2 to be one of the biggest and most influential rock bands ever. I just hate their music, that’s all. Fair enough?
