The problem isn't a rift .. the problem is JT Miller. Him refusing to backcheck, going to the bench slowly, standing around straight legged and watching the play, yelling at teammates (petey, horvat, schenn, delia, lankinen) etc has nothing to do with Petey and everything to do with Miller. Petey isn't the one that needed a month off in the middle of the season. You don't see Petey fighting with anyone else, or yelling at anyone.. or anyone saying anything negative about Petey.. and Petey works his ass off defensively on the ice even when not scoring The issues, on and off the ice are always centered around miller.

This situation between Miller and Petterson is a symptom. It's not the root cause. As you suggested, Vancouver needed to add on the blue line, which they didn't do. Winning would fix the issue, but in order to win more games, you'd need to add at least a Top 4 defenseman and probably upgrade on the third pairing as well. Right now they don't have that kind of cap space. (Idk how good their draft capital is...) So if you would trade one of the core pieces it would probably be Miller in exchange for said defenseman. That limits Patrick Allvins options, because everyone and their three mothers want to add on the blue line.

Players these days are savvy enough to know that if they don't choose their words carefully, what they say will get blown out of proportion and they'll look bad. We both share the same goal that the whole team does, we want this team to win." Then when he gets asked if it's a distraction he's supposed to say, "No. No it's not a distraction. Honestly, the only time this rumour gets talked about within the team is when we are being interviewed. Which I understand why since it's such a strong hockey market and every potential rumour could be a story. But no, it's not a distraction for anyone on the team. I think we have some on ice issues as a team we need to figure out so we can play like we know we can play." Now, this might be asking a lot from someone who has just lost a game but at the same time, it comes with the job. It also might be asking a lot of a player who's first language isn't english. Which is a fair point. But, it's on the Canucks to either help their players learn how to talk with the media or just don't let their players talk to the media. I don't like the latter. The media are always going to ask these questions because these stories get clicks. People make comments and posts with these topics. So, it's best to know it and answer things in a way that doesn't give the clickbait headlines.

It's sad & frankly pathetic that the sports media & fans on social media continue to speculate & gossip about it. The focus should be on the team needing to play better because they've been inconsistent & there is a danger of missing the playoffs. They both had their "crew" within the team who hated each other and rallied around either one of em and the neutral guys were disliked by both, hopefully if one gets traded, the Canucks don't get robbed like when Montreal traded Ribeiro to Dallas for Janne Niinimaa , a 3rd pair defenseman at best who was gone after 30 games back to Europe! Not a Canucks fan (it's even hard for people east of Edmonton/Calgary or even east of Winnipeg to get psyched about the Canucks, all that much even if we want a Canadian team to win the cup), but I wish there's no stupid expedited move like this made by the GM.

I think the only solution is to get Petey and JT together at the table and have them agree on how they are going to troll the press in interviews in January. Petey should tell JT what terrible things he should say about Petey, and JT should tell Petey what terrible things Petey should say about JT to the media. This would accomplish two things: they get to vent about the other guy without causing any friction, and teaming up to troll the media would make them see the other guy as their partner instead of their rival, and that’s guaranteed to spill over onto the ice. I know that all this stuff would end as soon as one of them said, “I f**kin hate that guy. He’s always grumpy, he just growls at everyone, and he f**kin killed Dumbledore! I hate that guy!”

When media members are respected by players it’s fantastic. But so many are not respected by players and do nothing but bring negativity from the social media world into the locker room.

Miller's supposedly gotten on other players nerves as well in Van (Horvat, Myers) and Tampa made 3 straight SCFs after unloading him. And apparently he was a sour apple in New York as well. It seems like a pattern. We all know of persons like this, who's stealing all the energy.

You just never know whats happening behind the scenes. I remember back in the 80s when a rift between Al Iafrate and Gary Leeman over Iafrates wife pretty much destoyed a whole team loaded with potential.Multiple trades ensued with Leeman getting beat up by Dave Semenko. It really did have a ripple effect that went through the whole team.

I never understood why Miller took over the right side on the PP. in EP40’s rookie year he was the most dangerous player I’ve seen on that side since Naslund. Miller should be the one tipping and crashing the crease not Petey. It was extremely evident to me that Miller’s presence has slowed Petey’s progression. He’s an extremely intelligent player, having Miller acting like a player coach must be so frustrating, he doesn’t need Miller bossing him around. I say trade Miller for a top 4 defender and whatever else they can get.
@glgl767610 сағат бұрын
Canucks led the league in SHG given up last year cuz Miller plays way too high and does not back check when the team coughs up the puck in the o-zone. Same thing just happened vs Ottawa.

Both are brilliant talented players. Miller is a not-so-closeted headcase/alpha male. I can easily envision Petey's much meaker, softer personality being intimidated by JT's. I shared two, row twelve, centre ice season tickets at The Rink on Renfrew, during Pavel's first three seasons. To say that I was broken-hearted upon his departure, would be one of the understatements of the previous millennium. P.S., Going forward, I would, (just slightly) hope that they keep both men, or, if only one, stick with Petey.
@joelface17 сағат бұрын
It's a storyline because the Canucks are losing while everyone is paying close attention to the team. I wish that the organization had simply said that Miller was recovering from an injury when he took his personal leave -- it was TOO exciting for a hockey mad market to truly leave it alone, especially after a few gaffes by the Canucks in handling it. I am convinced that that is part of why we're talking about this now. I AM a little amazed by how quickly we went from people chanting JT's name at a wrestling event he wasn't even present for to calling him to be traded away for his toxic attitude. LITERALLY less than a month apart. I would LOVE for this storyline to die.. it's boring and stupid. It's not about hockey. It's not why the Canucks are losing. It's just a big stinky media fart. That said, I appreciate THG addressing it the way he did today, and I agree with him. Let's please, as a fan base, move on. We don't need to call for trades. Just ignore this dumb noise.

Yea I agree there mostly likely 2 players on any/every team that may not like each other, however when these 2 players who are the top 2 or 3 on the team are having issues then IMO this is completely different. A good example is Toronto last year in the playoffs when Marner had a melt down on the bench with Nylander calling out Marner (perhaps Matthews as well), look at what happened Toronto bounced by Boston. If Desharnais and Hoglander are having a tiff you think one isnt traded or sent down?

I've worked at some places where we all got along and a lot more places where there was at least one person you didn't like, and in both cases you showed up and did your job like an adult. Having both your top centres struggling to play like they're not average 3rd liners means the two snipers (Brock and DeBrusk) have to get set up in shooting position by Hughes or someone else. Winning definitely makes everything easier.
@Tompynn13 сағат бұрын
Yeah those places probably were VERY different than an nhl team that spends more time with each other than they do their families. Can't compare an average civilian job to an nhl team, there's almost nothing comparable to what jobs you've worked and the dynamic of an elite professional sports team, no offense. Apples and oranges

Thing to keep in mind, a locker room of players not liking each other is not uncommon. Some of those teams actually win. BUT the mitigating factor in those types of locker rooms is an abundance of high value talent. i. e. Chicago Bulls of the 80s/90s. The nucks seem to have an unhealthy locker room and there is not high value talent in there outside of one player. Also Kepp in mind the rift may be between two players but each player will have other players in their camp. Hence the rift is not really between just two players. You’ll normally have three caps, team Miller, team Petterson and then team I don’t care.

@lindsytannock7969Сағат бұрын
This is not as bad as the media is making out to be. Petty and Miller are fine. Swedish players are notoriously calm and consistent, where North American player tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves, and way more emotional. These two personalities will clash when poop hits the fan. They both want to win, they are both ultra competitive. I believe that once they start to put a string of wins together, things will smooth out. This adversity is good for the team.

If we just had a competent blueline the results would be a tick better and no one would be talking about this. The reality is our 5 on 5 shot generation is so poor and it's all down to not having dudes who can move the puck effectively at all on the back end outside of Hughes.
