My taste?! Suho - 1 to 3 (Highlight Medley) Composer's Honest Reaction & Analysis

I prefer rock and metal music, "band music" like how Koreans usually call it. So as a Suho fan, I enjoy his musical direction more than the usual EXO sound. I get where you are coming from, having a symphonic metal background, but you need to realize that for kpop fans who are not used to this, his music is actually very niche, even obscure. He chose to make the music he liked when he was young, NELL being one of his favorite artists, and he's said that he had to learn a lot about the genre and listen to many bands. He's worked with Korean rock legends, Songolmae. He gathered his own band members to perform and now tour. He even learned how to play the guitar for his own songs. He's really tried to immerse himself into a totally opposite direction. I think he's the EXO member with the biggest solo musical growth for this very reason. You need to listen to his entire discography to realize and I recommend you to watch his live performances. His latest concert was a week ago and everyone, fan or not, came out of the concert loving the music. I think it might just be your music taste not aligning with his and that's fine.

His solo growth is my favorite too. All 3 albums are so different yet so cohesive (if that makes sense).

I really enjoy Suho’s solo project. His Second album was still #1 Solo Album of all EXO member for me

The album is absolutely worthy. It is a bit of a new direction for kpop and an EXO member. If an artists does nothing but challenge their vocals in high notes every time it becomes pedestrian. EXO SUHO deliberately decided not to do dancing things -again going against the grain for a reason. It is easy to be critical when you also put in the minimum to find out more about the album, the making and background reasons and work, the amazing response he is getting in his 2024 solo concerts because of the upbeat energy of this album in particular when performed live with his band. I am constantly amazed that people doing reaction videos are so ill prepared about what they are reacting to. I found your comments fit your on screen personality so they were not surprising.

As I said this was a request from a Patron. Patrons are free to provide as much context as they wish, but sometimes they just want my raw thoughts on the work itself, which was the case here. Generally this is how I like to react, because it allows the work to stand on its own. I’m not here to research the general opinion of this music and feed it back to you. I’d also point out that I only hear complaints about lack of research when my review is less than stellar. It’s never a factor when I have high praise. Funny how u mentioned Led Zeppelin, they're one of my fav bands and Suho is one of my fav artists but I've never associated them together.. So cool!

If you want for him to sound more like him in EXO, then Self Portrait is the album for you to check out. If you want him to hear his vocal range, then Grey Suit album is the album you want to check out. If you want Suho to do what he loves, then 1 to 3 is the album for you. I love that he unapologetically put this set of music out cause i love his voice and his music. Also, his live versions of the songs are superior. Ps. Suho does put effort in his live performances and gives his audiences a treat to watch. You should check out his live performances if you found 1 to 3 lacking performance bit
