Daniel Okwiri has been made fun of, called a monkey and had his self esteem refused to zero by his teachers and former school mates simply because of his dark color.
He tells Tuko Talks' Lynn Ngugi that the far he has come is simply because he believed in himself and also admits there were times he felt like giving up on everything.

Anytime you find yourself putting down others, chances are that you have a bigger problem you are dealing with. I was bullied by 2 teachers in high school, I just joined a new school in form 3 after being out of school for 2 years due to school fees, I never stepped in form 2, skipped to form 3, I got 5% Physics first cat, the teacher said, halafu kuna ngombe ingine hapa, kijana ukona jina kubwa lakini hujui chochote, Biology teacher pointed me out in the assembly that, "I knew students stole exams when even this zombie passed", I was on my way up. I got straight As in KCSE, the best in that school, have taught Physics in US universities... oooh those 2 teachers are some of my best friends today... keep ur head up, know ur goals and stay focused

I was bullied in Primary and Secondary school because I was poor and because I couldnt afford shoes my feet were full of cracks and they said I had ugly toes that I will never wear nail polish. I tell you God blessed me those feet have been in Designer Shoes that they could only dream of.
