I believe there is a service mode to help you burn in new brakes. Might be able to use this here and there maybe a pass or 2 vs 10 for new brakes

Nowadays there is a guided process for brake burnishing within the service menu accessible to anyone.

The model 3 wipes the rotors automatically. From the manual, “To ensure brakes remain responsive in cold and wet weather, Model 3 is equipped with brake disc wiping. When cold and wet weather is detected, this feature repeatedly applies an imperceptible amount of brake force to remove water from the surface of the brake discs.”

Yes, but I have not found that it actually works. I have issues if I don't cycle my brakes.

BMW does this too but it's just to sweep the rotor of moisture. It's a fraction of the pressure needed to clean the disc.

Tesla service center just shared this with me last week when my car was in for service. I did leave a comment on your previous video regarding the status of the plastic shroud and anodized metal.

Great advice and I think I learned something new with "rotor delamination?" I always thought stock rotors on common cars were simply cast iron? In the old days they made them thick enough too so you could "turn" the rotors on a lathe when they warped.

Thanks Matt. Good video for those not aware. It’s not a problem for us parking in a garage, and a warm climate (no salt on roads). I also have a friend with a Model S, who has well over 400,000klms on his original rotors and pads - amazing. P.S. Love your swivel mount! Cheers from downunder 🇦🇺

I have a S and parked in the garage but still rust

lol trying to figure out why I have this on my non-electric and non-hybrid car 😅

If I park my car indoors after arriving home in the rain, my brakes usually rust. I can hear it getting scraped off the next time I drive out of the garage. They smooth out very quickly. This is an ICE car, so it gets a lot of brake use whenever it is driven. It’s a different story on an electric car so do what Matt says or some variation that suits you.

put it in neutral, then brake, it won't use regen this way and you'll clean off the rust in no time without hard braking 😊👍🏼

Hi Matt. Hope you are well. Any videos coming up? I’d like to know how the new car is doing. I’m thinking about upgrading to a a Model 3 Performance.

I just noticed that both my front rotors on our 2019 model 3 seems to have developed grooves - is this for cause for concern?
@Scireforall Жыл бұрын
I will start doing that as my car brand new m3p starts to get rotor rust after 500miles only. Do you change any driving padel regeneration?

I never had the problem, because I enabled stop sign control, and it would use emergency braking way too often. It got better after recalibrating my cameras

This all sounds like a setup for the wife to let you do a track day once a month.. ;)

Just like the old days where you had to heat up the engine and "blow the intake carbon out" at speed ;)

On some of my commutes I go out of my way to go down steep hills and just get ‘em hot. Did you grease the sliding pins on your rwd?
