The only reason I didn’t like Cats the movie was because of the way they did the story... The original musical is messy and confusing and that’s kind of what makes it fun. They kind of over explained and simplified everything in the movie so I felt that ruined it. Also, some of the designs of certain characters made it really hard to figure out which character was which. I believe they could’ve done a lot better with the CGI, yes, but I can’t say it’s the worst I’ve seen. The main thing with it is the faces, I’d say. I love the original musical- it’s my favorite actually. I just wish they would’ve captured the essence of the original and portrayed it a lot better. I just feel bad that the animators that did the incredible amount of work on that CGI had to be bashed down because it didn’t look the greatest.

Ami Ru Ro Agreed. Should've either stick to the makeup or, at least, come up with more original textures and costumes for the Jellicles. As for the story, I remember seeing a comment on a different video talking about what made the 1998 cast memorable; it was more community driven and felt like a group you would want to befriend. Still, what they should've done was make a prequel of sorts to the musical and show why the tribe hated Grizabella or what was Demeter's history with Macavity.

I’ll map it out kind of in a nutshell lol. *Spoilers Ahead!* (if any of you really care for that at this point) -Meet Jellicles -Learn about Jellicles -Learn about Jennyanydots and Rum Tum Tugger -Grizabella appears ad everyone is negative towards her -Learn about more Cats -Jellicle Ball -Grizabella appears and sings a bit of Memory before sulking away again -Deuteronomy tries to reach out for Grizabella but she leaves -Deuteronomy sings Moments of Happiness (he’s basically already chosen Grizabella) -More learning about Cats -Macavity kidnaps (or should I say… catnaps? 😂) Deuteronomy -Demeter and Bomblerina sing about Macavity -Macavity strikes again and the Cats fight him off -Mistoffelees is introduced and brings back Deuteronomy -It’s almost time for the Jellicle Choice -Grizabella appears once more, singing Memory, but collapses -Jemima perks up and sings Memory, so Grizabella continues, standing up and belting -Grizabella tries to initiate for someone to touch her and let her back into the group -Nobody stops Victoria from going up to touch her -Grizabella is chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer Essentially, Cats is a f**k ton of awesome and beautiful spectacle and then Memory.

When I saw cats the musical I was like 8 and in the beginning it’s all dark. Then these cat people come up all around you with creepy a** glowing eyes, and the music’s all weird with dramatic clarinets. Because if this, in had a full blown PANIC ATTACK in the theatre. I determined to watch the show cause it was going off broad way in the next month or so, so I wanted to soak up all of the possibly weird energy. Other than that the musical was amazing tho.

All of the visuals in this video that were not Illy's animation or from the 2019 movie are from the 1998 direct-to-video musical film. It's pretty good. If you like the musical, ballet, acrobatics, and a little bit of stage magic. I'm not really a fan of the musical as a whole, but it definitely has some cool parts.

Not gonna lie, I have loved Cats the theatre production since I was very small. My parents had it on video and I would watch it over and over, singing the songs and dancing along! And I saw it live too, before it was pulled from the UK and adored that as well. I recently watched the movie and while I thought it wasn't even close to as good, I still enjoyed the music and songs. While there's not really a real plot and the events are up for interpretation for a large part of the play, I think the first act's focus on what is supposedly Victoria's first Jellicle Ball is quite beautiful. It reads to me like some sort of sexual awakening thingy, and if they took out that one immersion-breaking tiddy grab I would be totally fine with it. With the 2019 movie, they left some of the horny parts and now it just feels like there's no reason for them to be there.

As a theater kid myself, I've been told _Cats_ is the black sheep of the theatrical community. It's a play that you either absolutely love, or you absolutely hate. I get that some things don't translate well to film, but then again _Cats_ doesn't exactly have a plot per say. It doesn't mean you can't get a good film out of it (maybe work on the script a bit), but this show was meant as an experience rather than an in-depth story. If it was an animated feature produced by Steven Spielberg (like it was originally intended), maybe it would have had a better chance at the box office. But as is, I think it'll just get a future cult following similar to _The Rocky Horror Picture Show_ or _The Room_ . Andrew Lloyd Webber is to theater what George Lucas is to film. He can be talented, and has revolutionized the industry (if not made a lot of money), but not all of his projects hit bullseye.

I think part of the reason why they made a movie is because some people don’t have the time and/or money go see musical shows, and some people prefer to be able to watch stuff at home.
