I know no one is more upset at what happened than Graham himself, but I reckon the reason no one advised him not to go nuts eating in Vegas is because Graham is 39 years old, absolutely loaded with experience, and this was a schoolboy mistake that no one would envision him making. It almost hints at self-sabotage. Graham is a very bright man, a trained engineer, but I think he was so zeroed in on the lift that all other considerations went out the window. That's where a trusted advisor/coach comes in to mind him that last week, to make sure nothing goes awry...

Maybe it was insecurity of being too small to pull it causing him to last minute binge and rely on weight moves weight
@roadagent5158Ай бұрын
Absolutely agree! He has stated in his videos countless times about suit fit and changes in weight effecting that big time. I followed all of his build up and training videos leading up to it for months and months, to over look this at the most critical point is an absolute shocker
@busabros2480Ай бұрын
I think he went looking for a reason to blame because he knew that he couldn't pull it and was realistically no where close.

I've been a fan of strongman pretty much all my life. When I was 5 years old I watched Jón Páll Sigmarsson vs Bill Kazmaier on tv and I was hooked. The Magnus Ver Magnusson era from 91 to 96. The Mariusz Pudzianowski era from 2002 to 2008 (with a great podium finish from your part in 2007 and 2011 if I remember correctly), Big Z...and Brian Shaw....and Tom... After watching the first competition year of Mitch Hooper, I already knew I was witnessing something unique ...like seeing a Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods emerge. I just hope time will keep him injury free so he can prove me right lol! I'm also a big fan of your commentating Terry! You, Loz, Liz, Pa and the Lalas Brothers are doing an important job informing, commentating and promoting the sport. Thanks for that! Cheers from Montreal and please forgive my poor English.

Great to hear the honest perspective of somebody who's actually been there, and really knows the sport well. I've watched you since your first appearance at WSM, your longevity, durability, toughness and consistency will always be a hallmark of your great strongman career. You always excelled in the truck/plane pulling events. It was such a great event for you, however, in recent years truck pulling events are few and far between, and when they do occur they have been subpar. Since you already work for the Giants live team, Colin Bryce and Darren Sadler, It would be great if they gave you the role of "event coordinator" for a truck pull event, that is tough enough to create some separation and really see which athletes are the Best truck pullers of this generation.

It's scary how many guys now lift 1000lb plus. We just take it for granted, but as a long term fan i remember 400-410 being thd benchmark Obviously Andy and Benni were hitting mega numbers in powerlifting, but the max deadlift wasn't the thing in strongman Your 440 back in 2011(?) Was mind boggling. It was around that period that yourself, Z, Brian etc started to push the deadlift max closer to the powerlifting records. Obviously then the deadlift championships has taken it to another level You comprted in a great time with thr best ever era, im biased to that era, but i bet you wish you were around now with so many opportunities The sport is growing crazy. Long gone are the car parks, but multiple shows in packed arenas are awesome Tbe sport is moving in the right direction

Great review Terry. I agree with almost everything you said in terms of the athletes (in my limited knowledge). I would say however, that Vegas was a bad choice. It's prohibitively expensive. Flights aren't cheap nor is accommodation. The Orleans hotel is well dodgy and stank of cigarettes. The arena was fairly archaic. For no given reason we all got our seats moved for a worse one. Overall not a great fan experience. There were a few great moments in the show but for the most part it wasn't great. Maybe it's just me? Again, thanks for the review. Look forward to the next vid 💪

I'd like to see Giants Live and Strongman in general to be bigger in America. The real challenge in the US is they need to find a way to get the casual viewer/fan to watch at buy tickets. In other words, the events and the television/online announcing need to create stories out of the events around the competitors that have the over-the-top natural charisma. It can't just be guys competing at strongman events. That'll get you the hardcore fan, but the big money is the people that are compelled by a good story to watch. Watch baseball, football, basketball, mma, boxing and soccer. The one thing common among all of their announcing is they tell stories that fans get behind.

I just hope that next year there will be a bigger weight than 470kg (before 505 or whatever the weight might be at that point). Maybe a few people could have done 490kg, instead of another year of no one puling 505kg and a few pulling 470kg again.

I'd like to see Hicks back in strongman shows too. At his age though the powerlifting total record must be tempting. You don't know when your strength is going to start dipping with age, realistically he's not going to win WSM but he seems like he'd have a shot at writing his name in the history books as one of the strongest people ever by breaking Dan Bell's record. Think he finds it boring though, which it is.

Great to listen to your perspective. It’s certainly not for me to say what shows Tom should do but if he was to limit it to let’s say 4, I find it hard to argue that it shouldn’t be the big four* To not do Arnold’s and Rogue would be odd. And somewhat removing himself from the top circuit. I think it’s tough for the strongmen who have a good sized brand, like the Stoltmans, to miss shows. A lot of the sustainability of that brand will be linked to being actively competitive. (* You can argue what the big four is given that the GL shows all pull bigger audiences and are significantly higher quality productions than every other show. But I’m referring to WSM, SMOE, Rogue & Arnold’s, which I think is generally agreed on)
@terryhollandsАй бұрын
@@misterc5783 I don’t disagree with what you’re saying but every time you go to the well it takes something from you, giants live is not that extreme and easier to recover from. Smoe and rogue are brutal on your body! Arnold not as much as in the past imo but still tough if you chose to do Arnold us, Arnold uk wsm and some all within all within 5 months period!
@misterc5783Ай бұрын

Luke's deadlift is pretty typical. A lot of strongmen don't care about deadlifts. Janne Virtanen, the very tall Finnish guy that you've competed against, never did 800 lbs in competition. He preferred other events like crucifix hold and farmers walks.
