On one occasion in my auto club there was an organized car race on the karting track, the best passing time was measured, about 40 drivers participated and I won, I consider myself an excellent driver, I drove like mad but I think I won because for days I studied the track in advance and memorized it in my head, Mitch is smart and unusually strong, you can't take that from him, and we shouldn't forget his couch Big Loz, I think he got some great advices for him.

Im thinking a big part of Mitch "The Alien" Hoopers success comes from holding off competing until later on (comparatively). He was already freakishly strong when he started in the sport. He seems to recover at a ridiculous rate which could partially be down to just not being as beaten up as others from years of competing.

Bill Kaz getting banned was most likely a multi factor thing. He was very dominant which lead to a boring TV show which was the main focus of the producers at the time. Also Kaz in his prime was a bit of prick, i think the man is great now, but i remember story that Ted Arcidi told, the night before a powerlifting meet he would prank call people and knock on hotel doors to interrupt sleep and get in peoples head. Also the infamous video of him call another lifter at the gym a pipsqueak. So something tells me his braggadocious attitude and un sportsman like behaviour had something with his banning too, but hey it made him very entertaining too

That guy who said Eddie isn't an all time great is just a hater. That year (I believe it was 2017) Eddie won it all and then retired might have been strongest athlete to ever compete WSM. It certainly was in the top 3 performances ever at WSM. Anyone who is a dedicated Strongman fan could tell almost immediately that Mitch was going to win a lot of shows after his performance at his first WSM. Then watching him after that first WSM show the following year he slowly built his performances where I had it in the back of head this freak if he stays healthy he truly has a great chance of winning the most meaningful titles and being #1 of all time. I will tell you brother Pa - you were so fun at that WSM in Sacramento. Instead of going home and sulking because of the injury you stayed there and gave everyone shit (esp. Shaw lol) Great and hilarious content. I really do hope you compete again, but if you don't please stay in the irongame with this very cool PodCast. True, but given his dominance, his age, and his years of experience, He is already dominating competition, while still having room to grow and get stronger, and also more experience and better in different lifts. There is good reason to believe that he has the potential to be the greatest of all time. He isn’t there yet. Definitely. But he’s not that far. Many people think Thor is the greatest of all time, primarily because of 1 year in which he won every competition. Mitch is showing already that he can be just as dominant as Thor was in 2018, while Mitch has room to grow. If Mitch has 1 or 2 more years where he replicates what he did this year, then he’ll go from being discussed as possibly the next goat, to being discussed as possibly the goat. And if he can hold on for more than 2 or 3 more years, while also racking on wsm wins, and maybe a deadlift record, (Which, this is less likely, but very much not impossible) then he will start to be a pretty good argument for the undisputed goat.

Such as Tom, Luke got Tom into strongman at a young age to get him in a better mind set. And the same as Thor. The years Hooper spent as a bodybuilding and runner has gave him edge now a days. As much as I love Martins I think his same injuries over the years has put him behind. I truly think the GOAT is Pudzianowski.

Hafthor always did well in the circuit events yet only won 1 wsm, Marius won 5x wsm but only did the circuit for a few years. Big z and maybe Brian shaw are arguably the only guys who won a load of shows and wsm several times, not every one can do it like big z. It’s a lot of travelling time changes, organisation, meal prep in a different country the stress of all that plus Tom has autism and clearly struggles mentality sometimes. Toms been doing these shows and wsm, for almost 8 years, Marius career was barely longer than from start to finish competing for Europes, wsm, and in their history own country. I think some people think that because Mitch can do events or shows every few weeks then Tom should be able too, but some of the guys are simply not capable of that!!

It's not even about what actually happen, what they said or did, it's now entirely in the realm of a fiction where it has to be extremely binary, one should be a fraud, the other a king, they cannot be just both incredible strenght athletes that just happen to hate each other, that's impossible, that's the law.

What do you think about Hafthors career so far as in he let a lot of titles go due to errors where it seemed he wasn't concentrating. I recently watched some of the old WSM shows and he sometimes let stuff slip in loading races etc. Not calling him stupid or anything but it somewhat looks like that he could have beaten Brian and others if he would be more focused. Or is that maybe just a misconception on my side? In any case he was always in the top 3 at a time where the density at the top was especially high.

They tend to pick stupidly hot venues, and the ability to actually see something as a fan sucks (living in Sac and wanting my two boys to be able to watch, it was kind of shit). At least in an arena, you can see what's happening even in the nosebleeds. Your thoughts... Should they shift, or no?

I believe WSM is paid by the host city to have the event in a site that best highlights the city as a whole, to the world at large, via a television show. Can't really do that in an arena.

Saying Eddie Hall wasn't elite is absurd. Look at the names he beat in 2017 and say beating them isn't elite. Just because you don't have longevity doesn't mean you can't be counted among the greatest. Plenty among the best to compete in their sport had short careers for various reasons. The other thing is Eddie probably had a little more in the tank in some of those events, especially Viking Press.

Z clobbered everyone at overhead and he usually won squat events. His deadlift max just wasn't as high as Shaw for example.

Getting mad at strongmen such as Hooper for finessing the rules is about as useful as getting mad at powerlifters for arched benchpressing and sumo deadlifting. Don't get mad at the athletes, aim at the judges.

Hooper is in no way a static goat. He split jerks his overheads. Compare his strict press to Eddies, the real static GOAT.

I do agree but all I will say is compare bodyweight. Eddie was near 200kg at his peak, you're basically guaranteed to have am advantage statically and we know bodyweight has carryover to the press. Hooper is 140kg.

@conorpurtell7315 I mean yes it's the same weight class. But we aren't naive to realise when one guy weighs 200kg and another weighs 140kg. Come on mate bodyweight isn't everything, leverages are more important but I just feel we should take these things into account.

He’s not the sneakiest strongman by any stretch. It was well known that Brian shaw observed EVERYTHING before the events started. Mitch is no different

Brian was smart in how he approached events but still generally took them on in the spirit with which they were intended. People take issue with Hooper because his approach is "if it's technically not breaking any rules then who cares?" He's not wrong as such, but it definitely goes against the spirit of what strongman is all about.

I think people also forget that Hooper is very efficent with technique and preparation and diet is quite abit better than other strongmen. He looks like he knows how to properly peak and eats well enough to aid recovery. Watching his videos he is very big on recovery. The proglem with Tom is that from what i have seen watching a day of eating, his diet looked terrible. Diet is very important for fule, recovery and reducing inflammation in your body. Tom might have the higher ceiling but i think his prep and diet let him down.

I'm wondering if Toms autism is a major disadvantage to competing in different events? a lot of changes are maybe a challenge for him, He clearly is happiest at WSM. hopefully his back recovers well.

Kaz was a freak athlete whom you could argue was a generation ahead of his time. He also might be his own worst enemy, because I witnessed him be a complete knob to fans at the 2019 WSM in Bradenton. Thor was great with fans, Luke Stoltman was great with fans, Magnus Ver Magnusson was the head ref and he was great with fans, Martins the champion was unbelievably gracious to fans...and Kaz was a surly dickhead. It was unfortunate to experience...

Pa, do you think Mitch will have a long career? He seems to be a guy who throws everything into what he's doing then walks away before it fails. I suspect he'll dominate for 5 years , then retire. tbh I doubt his body would take much more than that.

02:35 I have to disagree. If you look at BigZ, he'd only push it up when he had to. Get close to beating the log record, he'd push it up, get close again, he'd push it up. If you watch BigZ do overhead he was pressing it, not a lot, if any leg drive on his lifts and he was competing against Brian in his prime as well. BigZ was a smart lifter, why go balls out when you can lift just a little bit more than the next guy.

I think Eddie Hall at his peak was probably statically the strongest, u look at his deadlift and ohp with not much leg drive, then his gym lifts. Hooper is superhuman😂
