Well, her predecessor, USS Laffey (DD-724), Allen M. Sumner-class, follow suit by never stopped the fight. Even after being crippled and badly damaged. Yet those AA guns kept firing into the air shooting down those planes. Personally, I'd sell my soul just to see an Allen M. Summer version of Laffey. And really the community would handle it.

Ironically, the drunken sleepy head is the rapid loader of the 4. Aka the chain gun of the party. Ayanami is the glass cannon Area denying mage. Javelin is the rogue with unbelievable Evasion rate. 23 is the Tank with lots of Panzerschrecks

Laffey also has one of the best if not the best l2d skin alts in the game with her new year skin (the one where she's sleepy on a tree). I swear the devs love Laffey so much that they spent all their development time making that l2d leaps and bounds better than most of the other skins out there. Putting that half joke aside, Laffey is probably the best starter because she's balanced pretty much everywhere.She doesn't struggle as much as Javelin when it comes to firepower nor Z23 when it comes to torps. Pre-retrofit I gave Laffey the smallest gun with the fastest reload since I tried making a full barrage build (since the faster you can get to 10 shots the more frequently the ship can ejaculate those special barrage. Works best with Eldridge for me). Post-retrofit though, since her skill boosts her reload, she can be equipped with larger guns with slower reload and still have the same full barrage frequency. I'm surprised I don't see Akagi/Kaga on the list though, Akagi has been on top of my fleet's power level for a long while. Yamashiro comes close second along with Taihou (with her dummy thicc special airstrike), and it might be worth a while to check out on the value of BBVs since I noticed that their power level greatly spiked post retrofit

I thought this was going to be the cool _Allen M. Sumner_-class Laffey that shelled the Germans at Normandy and then survived four bombs and six kamikaze attacks at Okinawa. Instead I got a sleepy _Benson_-class bunny who sank in the Solomon Islands (who didn't?) and is in love with me. Thanks, China!

To be fair, that same sleepy Benson-class DD fought the battleship Hiei at point blank range, coming within 20 feet of her, and fighting like a freaking demon before finally succumbing to overwhelming fire. Laffey also shelled Hiei's bridge and killed her captain.

There's some good heavy cruisers...Portland definitely is up there....but there's also two others I use a lot: Wichita & Minneapolis.

Minneapolis is the one I'd say can compare best with Portland. Wichita is still fairly unmatched in terms of CA damage potential but she has no built-in way to compensate for how fragile she is. Portland gets +20 evasion in her retrofit and Minneapolis has a heal. Survivability is at a premium for most CAs, at least without breaching the lv100 cap.

My favorite is Z23 for the sole reason of high firepower. Added in the fact she's a Z class ship, she gets a 40% FP and EVA increase from Z1's skill when skill is maxed. Making her much more powerful and higher survivability from increased evasion. Making her FP on par if not better then some lower end cruisers. Z1 herself might not be strong but it's another DD making your vanguard faster plus her stats aswell get the 40% increase to FP and EVA allowing her to act a little stronger then a normal DD. I honestly don't recommend running 3 Z class ships, Z23 and Z1 are all you need. With proper gear and oathing with the retro, she can be as strong as most heavy cruisers, even some of the SRs. Couple in the fact she has DD levels of evasion just makes it so good. I do recommend a torp bulge aux even with her high EVA cause if she gets hit she's gonna die.

Close quarter Torp Drop. :v In all seriousness though, Laffey is dependance on her main gun for specialization on mob/boss fleet. With being a HE spammer, the other 2( especially Z46) can use AP guns to send a message, that these loli escort is not something Scharnhorst can sneeze at and get away with. Though for overall spec: Laffey & Eldridge: HE spammer, Z46: AP Citadel. Plus you can use Eldridge Barrage to estimate safe distance for torp drop( work pretty good when it came to Mag Torp at full max range barrage or half-way for 75% - 80% torp hit on manual). So... have fun with Laffeydrink. :3

so saw this video when i started playing 2 months ago on kizuna ai event. Im level 80 now, with all starters at max LB, 100+, with retro. Tons of other stuff. Been looking around for tier lists and trying to min max.... FOUND OUT LAFFEY IS THE STRONGEST STARTER!!!, even did a bunch of tests after i read up on why, she is by far the most effective and reliable starter, and is easily in the top 5 for vanguard.

Great Review of the Starter DD Hawk, she is my Favorite as well (my numbah 1), both in the game and in real life, really fucking grinded hard to get her the best equipment and to get her the Retro, the grinding was worth it... Anyway, keep up the great work and just work on your own pace my man, since your working now.... And as for the list of ship to review, i request; Akagi and Kaga The Shiratsuyu DD's (Shiratsuyu, Shigure, Yuudachi, or either of them) Zuikaku Ryoujou Yorktown and Hornet BB Kaga Yamashiro and Fuso That is all...
