I think the point of the canon of creation/vengeance thing is that the vengeance plot features the altered story if you want to experience the new content from the get-go. The creation route is the unaltered story for players who may want to experience it for the first time as it was a switch exclusive before. This makes it the definitive game for new and old players.

I don't know 100% yet but the new route seems super different to the original game's story, I reckon it's going to be different enough that if you haven't played SMT 5 yet, you'd be better off playing both as it will then feel like you're getting 2 games for the price of one.

Atlus really needs to find a way to make an "upgrade version", maybe if you already have the original you can buy the upgrade for half the price, it can still be a whole new game but that way it's more consumer friendly, this will not make atlus as much money, but I think if this continues, now that they are finally starting to get a bigger audience, this will probably blow up in their faces again but in a much bigger scale

It seems very obvious that its having the new story completely take over and remove the narrative of the old. It won't be like the Labyrinth cuz you can choose to ignore that. If you select the new route at the start, you will be locked into the new story.

I highly doubt Atlus would do this, but with you being able to pick what is essentially base game SMTV at the start, I really hope there's an option for people who already own SMTV to buy it for $40 as DLC or something. Is it likely? Absolutely not it's Atlus but that feels like it would incredibly helpful.

You weren't paying attention when they were talking about the DLC. The "reduced price" comment was about the Digital Deluxe Edition including all the new DLCs. It's basically them saying that the Digital Deluxe Edition is cheaper than buying the base game + all DLCs separately, which is a common practice in the industry. Also yes, Demi-Fiend's DLC and the other 3 Demon DLCs from base SMTV are included in every copy of SMTV:V. It's basically how it worked with P5R and then P5R's ports, where P5R on PS4 included all the P5 vanilla DLC, and P5R's ports included all of P5 vanilla's DLC and P5R's DLC at no additional cost.

regarding the unique skills. From the limited japanese that I can read it seems to cause effects when you have certain demons in your party(?) (i.e. The Frosts, The Moirae, etc) when it pertains to those sets of demons. However for Kaya-no-hime it seems to be an effect relating to demon negotiations with certain demon types.

Honestly the biggest surprise to me was seeing them use a letter from my country of Croatia's alphabet, the letter š in the name of this new demon quartet they call Qadištu. Not sure who cares but I wanna do the thing where I correct you on how it's pronounced. So basically š is the letter we use to write the "sh" sound that's used in many english words like hush, shoe, shirt, shark and indeed - shit. So the way I read Qadištu is "Kah-dee-sh-tuh". I hope they actually pronounce it right in the game and didn't use the letter just because it looks funky and weird to the people who are used to the vanilla latin alphabet.

It's taken from how Akkadian is transliterated into Latin letters. The pronunciation is still be basically what you wrote but it also seems to be different depending on if it's Babylonian or Assyrian.

I'm with you 90%... but the other 10% of me says that if the game doesn't sell well, then they wont bother to create a new version. And I think some of this talk about Atlus and re-releases is a bit misleading. P5R wasn't just made to milk cash- P5 was a game created to run on the old PS3- with P5R they cut that out and so made a new version with more content that runs a little better since they can better focus their efforts and not have to worry about the old PS3 tech.

There were quite a few things in SMT 5 that i thought were either unnecessary/ a waste of time, such as have an overworld map for the "present day" of japan but the player only ever uses it like 4 times in the entire game, there were also large portions of maps that felt like they were only there to put collectables and other items around, really hope Atlus actually adds more rather than just add stuff for the sake of not making the inbgame world feel empty even though they didnt do a great job at it.

The way it works is this: Creation path is the original SMT V story as it was back in 2021. Vengeance path is where it follows the original to a point, then splits off to new stuff, like in p5 royal or final fantasy 7 remake.

In terms of the DLC for Vengeance, this is how it will work out: -The quest/boss/new demon DLC from the base game will be included in Vengeance for free. This includes Demi-Fiend, Artemis, Mephisto, Cleopatra, and others. -The grinding/mitama DLC will still be paid, but be significantly cheaper. (probably $1 USD per DLC instead of like $4 USD) -There will be new DLC exclusive to Vengeance, including Dagda DLC.

I got SMTV Deluxe Edition this past Christmas at a discount price. Enjoyed it so much as my first SMT game; poured a good amount of hours into it! ...but man I HATE that Atlus always does this. I was actually speculation that this re-release would be the perfect opportunity to release it on all major platforms. Glad I was right. In terms of graphical fidelity it probably won't be any different from its emulated version, which runs at high resolutions and 60+fps that honestly looks decent enough. Now I just want them to remaster SMT4/A.

If you pick creation you'll have the OG endings and superboss and if you pick vengance all the endings will be different and include a new superboss, the new faction and a nocturne esc true evil ending (basically as said in the trailer the creation story mainly happened in the netherworld and the vengence story is something thats happening in tokyo while the netherworld events are going on. So you'll spend more time with humans in the vengance ending which seems to revolve around showing superiority over the gods. Yuzuru may also be a full on ally also with the new girl). That's a perfect way to make person replay the game and everything is new and fresh with new bosses and changes based on a group that may be stonger then lucifer. Would also be cool if they canonise nanashi/demi fiend being part of this new group also. It's also interesting seeing dagda as that means the neutral peace ending in apocalypse is canon. The old dlc being in this game from the og may need to be tweaked slightly if the vengance story changes so much of the story also.

Looking forward to this new version and the new content looks cool but the big thing I fear they wont change is level scalling for damage. For me, this is the biggest issue with smt v and the reason I have never seriously replayed it again. Like let me beat lvl50 demons at lvl10 again like the older games.

​​​​@@walter4180it's hyperbole, they don't actually legitimately mean to beat level 50 enemies at level 10 in most cases, what they mean is in previous games your level had no relevance to damage, hell in SMT Nocturne higher levels lowered damage output if you didn't increase strength or Magic Instead you gained power by Stats and skills, stats you choose to allocate on level up, but if you are level 100 and put no points in strength you are gonna be weaker than someone at level 15 with a decent chunk of points in it The main way you would get stronger was by gaining new skills and demons, because your level barely impacted damage and in most SMT games demons level up at half the speed of the MC it forced you to get creative because leveling up doesn't inherently help you it only helps you if it gets you to be able to fuse a demon or get a skill you want In SMT V it's quite insane how big a difference leveling up once or twice does, to the point that bosses go from being a good challenge but not impossible to being a walk in the park despite using the same skills and demons

Long as the Vengeance story makes quite literally any of the characters even MARGINALLY interesting I'll be happy I couldn't tell you the names, real motives of or anything remotely good about the original games alignment characters. Granted I'm due a replay but I remember thinking they were the most boring characters I've experienced in a video game

So basically, I bought this on release on the switch, only got about 10ish hours in and ended up shelving it due to the performance issues, and that it just didn't look good. I have been waiting for a multiplat ever since. Im excited for Vengence, but i wonder which storyline is worth playing through since one is supposed to be "like" the other but different ending. I'd be more inclined to play both if there's a NG+ that allows to to play through the second route

They said the og game was about 80 hours and said this new route is also 80 hours. Imo if the game is 60 dollars, which idk if it is, but if so then thats probably worth it for me. If its the same length but the game is returning, has extra features, demons, etc. New side quests then thats pretty cool. obviously i would just prefer to have it be dlc that i buy separately for 40ish dollars or whatever but if they add enough for it to be worth the money then its fine. it also makes sense when you consider the fact that the game is rereleasing for other platforms. meaning this is pretty convenient for people who dont own a switch or never played it originally. im still happy because i bought the steel case for the game on switch so the purchase was still worth. also the dlc is coming with the game, all the dlc from the previous game is coming WITH the new one. but theres also new dlc demons coming out. the subtitles… were pretty straightforward with that. it also matches up with what atlus did with persona 5 and its dlc going into royal. it just came with the game and they released new, royal specific dlc also another point i want to make is that this is not the same at all for games that release “unfinished”. smt 5, despite the issues with story feeling rushed, was a complete game. i spent 100 hours playing the game and loved it quite a lot. it was a fully realized game, with a half baked story. but many cool ideas and characters. royal was completely different… that could have easily been an expansion. if this is actually an 80 hour adventure like they said, then i would satisfied. still, ill wait and see before i pass judgement on it

Well, both P4G and P5R had the excuse that they changed consoles for an upgraded one (TLOU2, anyone?) while FES was its own separate disc in Japan. I believe rereleases are usually better than DLC because they encourage working on the already existing game rather than just adding stuff like a DLC. Of course, the prices for the rerelease are awful because you are paying for a game twice, so the ideal for me would be if you already own the game; the rerelease costs half the price, so it's no different than buying a DLC, but it's still so lmao.

I'm so hyped for Vengeance!! The base game was already a lot of fun and one of the best RPGs on the Switch, but now it seems we will also get a brand new, hopefully great story! And also it's multiplatform for everyone that was still waiting on other consoles :)

Hell i would have been happy with just a pc port of SMT V since i mainly havent replayed this game at all because I cant be bothered to borrow my sister's Switch, and I dont really like the switch controls. But a maniax version of SMT V which already had my favourite combat system in the series is a win. I cant wait to see the new physical moves Nahobino gets to wreck demons :)

SMT5 was my introduction to the SMT series after playing P5.. absolutely loved it and poured 80 hrs into it.. and paid for the true demon king dlc also.. seeing it get like a re-release version has me like whaaa 😅😂 jokes aside I'm happy to see it getting released on stronger consoles now & probably will return for all the new content.

I think the story comments meant that the old setting elements from the Canon of Creation are all still present in the Canon of Vengeance, but as the new characters and demons invade the plot they derail it in a way that just becomes more overt a bit later (as seen with the scene of Tao joining Sahori). All in all, I think the better way to view it is "Apocalypse but with IV's original story also in the game" (way to bum myself out thinking of that). I was waiting for an "enhanced" port of V to be announced for all platforms to herald the end of Atlus exclusivity, but this is more than what I expected and I'm actually excited to play the Canon of Vengeance.

Finally i can oogle at Idun, Cleo + new demons in 4k!! This was my first SMT game and trust me. If you like pain, it's worth learning it on hard mode. Unique skills for each demon? Wow. That's definitely worth more. I hope the exp isnt gimped so bad that you had to throw away the demon unless you use Grimoires to level them up. Had to spend all the grimoires to use Hasou Tobi on that demon

Also not to mention that SMT V was an UE4 game and UE4 games were a challenge to get running on the Switch. I was going to get SMT V on the Switch but now I'll just wait for it to release on PC. I also think it is good that this game is coming out to all platforms as well.

Currently playing Persona 4 Golden with only Jack Frost. My current moves are Bufudyne, Mabufudyne, Brave Blade, Megidolaon, Null Fire, Ice Amp, Mind Charge, and Apt Pupil. Is this a good moveset or should i change things? Open to feed back.

I've got this game since day 1. Hope to see improvement in visual and performance since this will release on PC as well. For story, I hope it will be more detail for some characters because it is the weakest point in the previous edition. At the end, I still grateful that the mainline title still get some love from dev.❤ Can't wait to see more detail!!!

I had been wanting to replay SMTV for awhile, glad I held off. I already really liked the game so I'm excited to revisit it, and on better performing hardware as well. Also, the fact that you have to literally choose when starting a new game whether to go with the original storyline or the new one is interesting. That, to me, would signify that the changes in the new storyline are much more significant than the changes made with something like Nocturne Maniax or P5Royal, as those were still added on to the same original storylines.
