I have a few editing suggestions: 1. Apply filtering to your mic, either while recording or in post 2. FPS lag is very noticeable, if your computer isn't fast enough I would recommend reducing the recording to ~20FPS and then interpolating to 60FPS using ffmpeg [minterpolate filter] 3. Music is on the tune of 40% too loud

As someone who agrees with Federal Vision, I appreciate this neutral discussion. I disagree greatly with your thoughts on paedocommunion but that’s whatever. And yes, the accusation that we say we are justified by works is unmerited. I don’t know anyone of the Federal Visionist leaning that would affirm that.

It's very interesting what the traditional reformed view of baptism is. As a American evangelical who believes being born again is not correlated with baptism but a profession of faith, and whose greatest interactions with the reformed community is reformed Baptists, it is very interesting how other Christian groups equate baptism directly with being born again.
@redeemedzoomer6053
@redeemedzoomer6053 Жыл бұрын
Yup! The vast majority of historic church traditions say baptism is the same as being born again. Traditional Reformed theology doesn’t say they’re identical but DOES say they’re connected, and that baptism is a means of grace, NOT a profession of faith

Read Moses as a symbol for baptism…. I think it helps imo. Also theocracy and theonomy are distinct ideas. Also pedo-communion for all FV people is never infants but children. Children have faith that is saving. A way to think about it is a child is able to eat solid food they should eat with the family. The Lords table is a feast like Passover. If we were to deny our children we ought to deny the senile. Yet we don’t. There is no argument here that doesn’t rely on a faulty reading of Paul. He also says if one doesn’t work he shouldn’t eat. We’d never apply that to children. I enjoy your content. God bless.

Another reformed zoomer here. When a baby is baptised, and bought into the covenant, what is the spiritual significance for that baby? Since it cannot save them, as they don't have faith, what happens? I'm not sure on my stance on paedo-baptism. Dad is an Anglican vicar (reformed theology) and baptised all 3 of his children. I am very sure of my own faith, having seen God's good ordinance in humbling me and bringing me back to him out of a life of sin. My brother is professing and is serving a Christian centre, but my sister is non-professing. For each of us, what did being baptised as babies mean?

What do you think about someone who got baptized twice? The first time they got baptized they continued a life of sin and never heard of repentance. The second time they declared, after being a Christian for 5 months, that Jesus is Lord and lived in consistent repentance, till this day. Are they damned? What are the implications of two baptisms?
@mcgheebentle1958
@mcgheebentle1958 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say that they are damned, but there is still a seriousness to holding to ONE baptism - and ONE baptism ONLY. Take a look at Ephesians 4:5-6. “… one Lord, one faith, one baptism…” It seems like Paul is comparing the fact that we undergo ONE baptism to the fact that God is ONE. The oneness of God is being written about in the same sentence as the fact that there is one baptism for Christians. I think we ought to take that pretty seriously. And then of course, there’s the Nicene Creed, which states there is “one baptism.” So you’re not damned if you get “rebaptized”… but let’s not encourage it either. There is ONE baptism. If you wander from the faith and then come back, you are simply remembering the covenant God has made with you. No need to make a new covenant. He’s been right there the whole time. No need to get “rebaptized.” Because actually, no such thing exists.

Good video. This is a list of what I would consider "essentials of Christianity". 1) the full deity and full humanity of Jesus Christ (Jesus is God and glorified man) 2) monotheism or the belief in one God 3) the doctrine of the Trinity 4) justification by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone 5) the inspiration and sole authority of Scripture as the rule of faith 6) substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross (Jesus died in the place of the believer) 7) original sin 8) virgin birth of Jesus 9) bodily resurrection of Jesus and future resurrections of the elect at his return. 10) eternal reward of the righteous and eternal punishment of the unrighteous. The creeds are useful, but there is some ambiguity expressed in them on some points. This subject has been interesting to me due to my former association with Armstrongism. I was regenerated as an Armstrongite, but did not have a correct understanding on many areas covered by these points. Moral standards certainly should play some role in determining whether a person is a real Christian, besides doctrinal statements. For instance, I would be more concerned about the legitimacy of a "progressive Christian" who affirms LGBT ideology than someone who is confused on the issue of original sin. At the end of the day, though, I think God is the only one who knows which individuals belong to Him. At different stages of my life, I suppose others could have looked at my actions and understandings and considered me an unbeliever.

What was your experience with the Armstrongites? What motivated you toleave?
@Robert_Sparkman_01
@Robert_Sparkman_01 6 ай бұрын
The Armstrongites were generally friendly people and professed Sola Scriptura but the theology was wrong. They believed that other Christians were false believers. After the church reforms, there was an increased concern over finances due to lost membership. Additionally, the church leadership adopted some of the beliefs and practices of liberal Christianity. I believe this was due to influences from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. These aberrations included open theism and a different view of the atonement besides penal substitutionary atonement, as well as an acceptance of women pastors. Additionally, I believed in, essentially, Reformed theology and their view of predestination. This was contrary to the vast majority of church members. Basically the church slowly lost credibility with me.

@@Robert_Sparkman_01 That's very interesting, I knew about them only from Ready to harvest. I'm always interested in non Trinitarian denominations since I find the trinity incompatible with verses like John 14:28. However, emphasis on any man can lead to error, all have sinned and we no longer have prophets today. I would never have suspected liberalism to have crept in there. I am grateful Jehovah's Witnesses have avoided that plague.
@Robert_Sparkman_01

@@EcclesiastesLiker-py5ts I should make it clear that I am a Trinitarian and believe in the essentials of evangelical Christianity, including the full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. The doctrines of Grace Communion International that I disagree with are the liberal doctrines they embraced after becoming Grace Communion International. Regarding John 14:28, I encourage studying the difference between essence and economy within the Triune nature of God.

Even though @Redeemed Zoomer has clarified the significance of communion and baptism, the way he explains his views and logical positions awfully sounds like he is trying to maintain a sense of conformity. I am in favor of a deep cross examination of doctrines and theological discussion rather than reinforcing conformity among those who wish not to. Additional Notation: I must admit that I'm a skeptical protestant (technically in the assembly of god denominations) at the moment looking deeper into older branches such as eastern, oriental orthodoxy, holiness pentecostal, church of the east, etc.
