My Thoughts on THE FINALS Ranked Changes Season 3...

Hi everyone, I hope a lot of people see this after watching THiiXY's video and I understand everyone's concerns with The Finals and fortunately we have received news from the Embark team. -First of all World Tour is Ranked Tournament only it has been changed to have more freedom to improve the core game mode and be added back in the future in an improved form to the main ranked game, one of the developers said this was more because they felt they could not alter the Cashout mode being permanently in Ranked. (And yes it will still be competitive but with changes every two weeks to incentivize improving the mode and trying new things) -They have said that Ranked Terminal Attack is still a separate game mode, the main focus and the main mode on which they will always be based working on the game and to this day remains a priority is the original mode that came with The Finals and that is Cashout. In short they have not eliminated Ranked Tournament as such, but it has been renamed with the idea that it is not only the main Ranked mode and to work on its improvement and profiling to be added as an official Ranked in the future, so Ranked Terminal Attack is not a replacement but an addition or temporary substitute. And please I understand that many are angry with these changes but at the end of the day we are a community and the season has not yet started and we will have to test to see if we like it or not and then provide feedback to Embark and if they see it necessary to reverse changes, surely they will be made and remember, they do listen to their community.😁 EDIT: I have seen many people who still do not know that this complete information has been said, please do not believe anything that is out of what has already been said by the developers, all this information I have said and many more clarifications about season 3 and Ranked Terminal Attack and World Tour that you can read for yourself in the official Discord server announcement channel of The Finals which I invite you to read.

Having the cashout tournaments pulled back a little from the main ranked game mode for the Devs to experiment on is honestly such a good decision I think for the future, having a new ranked game for players to play a stable ranked match and then having separate game mode for new changes and experiments will be good I think

Honestly I think both Tournaments AND Terminal Attack should be ranked modes, and World Tours should expand to cover ALL modes. That'd solve a lot of problems and still provide a familiar ranked experience for new players.

The second huge problem is that World Tours should be weekly open tournaments or esport centric tournaments with cash prizes every week. Not some weird bronze through gold mode with a cash out leaderboard

Tournament, in my opinion, is the quintessential The Finals experience. The emphasis on team play and control under chaos is exactly what many players find so refreshing about the game. Removing ranked from tournament would be a massive misstep in my opinion. I know me and my squad would grind much less in the case. There’s a simple solution, two separate ranked modes. Ranked TA and Ranked Tournament with seperate ranks for each. Similar to how Apex had BR ranked and Arena ranked back in the day.

It's now confirmed that this change is TEMPORARY. They're using S3 to work on Cashout ranked to make it a better experience. That's a huge difference than changing the game all together. Thank God.

i have 530 hours on the main game + 200 hours from closed beta, open beta + im diamond 4 aswell. im honestly sad this is happening, this was the reason i started playing the game because of that gameshow cashout money aspect with sponsors mixed into it, its fine to have terminal attack and ranked terminal attack so more people can get into the game but removing the main ranked mode that lots of people including me was the reason we started playing the game, im all for new game modes but removing this is just sad and frustrating as iv said its my main game and mode that i want to spend my time on in my free time.

I can completely understand why people would be upset. Fewer people care about Terminal Attack enough to justify mainlining it for ranked, and it in no way represents the finals experience. It sucks to see, because it was problably an internal decision from Nexon and was out of Embarks control. Which, its kinda hard to understand how they thought this would go considering the dialogue they've definitely seen in the discord thus far. In their attempts to draw a more mainstream audience, which this game hasn't really appealed to in the first place, has led to just alienating more of the community. Hoping they make the change, nice video.

@@AdjustSZN Even if that is real is only because TA already came out when the season was pretty much packed, most people are settled in their ranks and they arent playing ranked anymore. I myself been sitting at plat 4 for a month (wanted nothing with the diamond grind) and havent played ranked ever since (a lot of my friends are the same). So people end up playing a lot of power shift or obviously they try out the new mode because it is fresh so why not. Then what do they get? a false metric of what really is going on. First day this is 100% gonna have alot of people playing, but watch as people will get out of it fast in the first week

I became a diamond player because i enjoy the game, i put the time in to learn the strategy of playing cashout. I don't see why we cant have both and track towards the same rank.

The Finals is a cashout, if it's about pushing a payload I play Overwatch, if it's about playing 5v5 or 6v6 planting bombs we have CS, Valorant, COD, and many other games with this mode. Having changed only shows the developers' desperation due to the declining player numbers. And instead of adding more content to the game, they decide to change something that nobody asked for, what will be the next modes? TDM/Domination? Meanwhile, here we go again for another 90 days playing with Mp5/UZI, Ak/Scar, and ONE, A SINGLE SNIPER, this is "SHOOTING GAME" but we don't have weapons, even the deceased Combat Arms, Point Blank, Warface had more weapons at launch than we have in a Season 3 of The Finals...

Conclusion of what Embark said on Discord and what is written on the Steam page: The game mode of the "Ranked" section will be replaced by a version of "Terminal Attack" with significant changes. It will be propelled to the forefront, while "Cashout Tournaments" will move to the back and appear frequently in the new "World Tour" section with its own ranking system. My opinion: In short, it will be difficult to enjoy the "Cashout Tournaments" mode in the same way as in the current "Ranked" section due to the fundamentally different ranking system. Moreover, we do not know what form the "World Tour" section will take. Will we be able to launch games at will every week, or will we be limited to a certain number of predefined games, this forcing us to perform at our best to achieve the best ranking? "Cashout Tournaments" was perfect, it could certainly be improved, but it was perfect for a Ranked type game mode. "Terminal Attack" really doesn't work with The Finals for many resons. I am extremely disappointed about this information. I'm waiting for more information but I think Embark made a huge mistake.

The reason we play the finals is for the uniqueness and high paced feel to the game. If i wanted to play TA wewould just play Csgo/Val/Snd/Seige instead. The whole reason we play the finals is too “get to the finals” and have the fresh new feeling to a game. its really hard to put into words how i feel about this change, because on one side i dont really mind the change at all. terminal attack isnt a bad game but switching the face of the finals: the mode that everyone thinks of when booting up the game to terminal attack rather than cashout feels like a simplification of the game that doesnt sit right with me. Dont get me wrong terminal attack is fantastic but idk it just feels like theyd be stifling the creativity of whats possible in the finals. cashout brought so much freedom and variety: you could approach from any angle, get to the cashout first or last or even choose to double up a cashout and make the whole server fight in one condensed space. terminal attack doesnt have that, it just feels like you have to have 1 game plan and try to approach the objective from a safe angle while keeping man advantage. it just doesnt leave enough room for you to do crazy or dumb flashy plays, it just feels im playing r6 seige 2. I also dont think all the weapons are balanced well enough for terminal attack, maybe the new map might feel good but the legacy maps? idk. my thoughts are too all over the place regarding this but all that im hoping for is that this game doesnt die because of this. (also the more i switch between cs and this game, the less i agree with people on comparing it to cs, people should just compare it to r6 lol)

Well put. We spent 2 1/2 seasons(counting alpha and beta) balancing weapons/gadgets for Cashout. Months spent giving feedback to improve Cashout only for Embark to do a 180 and make ranked into R6S. Let's be real, everything will need to be balanced and tuned for TA. I can't imagine that will be easy when the other core modes are so different. This sort of adds to my frustration with this game. It lacks consistency. At first, Embarks balance approach was guns with no optic do less damage but you get more bullets and vice versa. Then season 2 rolls around, people got good and the low bullet count restriction wasn't much of a restriction so Embark decided to shake up the meta by adding weapons balanced under a different philosophy, utility. The only problem is the initial batch of weapons were intentionally made to be well rounded. This made the newer weapons sub-par, and for the most part they still are. Now we are getting a bunch of new melee weapons in season 3 and I'm not quite seeing the vision of how they will lend themselves to a 1 life to live, no healing setting. This all feels desperate to me as if Embark is throwing stuff out hoping something sticks.

Thanks for getting this video out. The reddits a mess the discords a mess, you have mass spam and death threats going out. My friends that got into it are watching this from a distance. Having 2 ranked modes could be a good fix. Perhaps they can crank out a ruby bomber jacket, have their name and number on it. Now as for queues and player count, that could be fixed with actually marketing the game. This is all a big mess and I’m sure they’re gonna revert this. They did so when bank it was gonna get removed but this is much bigger than that. I’m very upset by the communities actions. Not all the info is out about the changes. I hope they make a statement before s3 launch. Videos like this is what we and the devs need. I’m gonna get some sleep

There is absolutely NO REASON why we can't have a SEPARATE cash tourney rank and terminal attack rank!! League of Legends has Solo / Duo ranked, Flex Rank, AND TFT rank OVERWATCH has a different rank for dps, tank, and support APEX LEGENDS has a different rank for battle royal and arenas CSGO has normal ranked, and wingman ranked This is EXACTLY how it should work, and I agree with your take 100%. It feels like I’ve seen this situation a million times over the years of playing games. Developers make a slight unpopular decision and gamers get all upset and then everyone accepts it and even prefers it overtime. I could care less what some armchair game developer thinks about the changes i fully support Embark in any direction they will take the game. They created it in the first place, I hadn’t even imagined a game like this aesthetics and all and besides it’s only season 3, Apex is on season 20, R6 is on year 5 and CSGO is straight prehistoric. We got a long ways to go Edit: after pondering a bit the idea has set in that this, although a change I accepted at first is a horrible long lasting decision and must be changed back to Cashout and is only tolerable for this season it must be reverted

I hear your point, but arguably, I still think I had more fun in the beta than I have been having for a while in the finals recently. Only 3/8 of my friends who played the finals in the beta still play the game today and none of us are super thrilled with the season 3 trailer at least. I still like and have fun in the game for now, but some nights every single match is just not fun to play. If I am already slowly moving on from the game and it only changes in what I see as the wrong direction, then Embark would lose me, but hopefully gain at lease a few new players in my stead. (really don't want the finals to fail regardless).

I’ve been saying this since 2.6. They’ve been taking out all of the chaotic stuff that got me to playing. The movement, nerfed on launch. Nukes, gone. Dagger stepping, ruined. But them giving us variety is a step in the right direction.

@@THiiXY yeah, I agree completely. But personally a lot of the nerds light got were way too harsh. Especially cloak, you have things to combat it. People deciding not to use them is their fault. Stun was warranted. The dagger step was a pointless nerf and they still haven’t even addressed it. It wasn’t popular, wasn’t a problem and now the dagger lost a ton of usability. It’s better than it was immediately after 2.6 but I’d give anything to get it back to pre 2.6 values and usability. And the ranked change… like couldn’t we just get two different modes of ranked?

i’m kinda but not really new to the finals, and i havent even unlocked ranked, but i’d first played around its initial launch, but the cashout game was full of people who were super good and i never felt like i improved, so i quit for a while. i’d only came back because i heard about terminal attack, and as someone who was less experienced, i definitely enjoyed having a mode that was easier to digest on a round to round basis, allowing me to learn how to play in a slower fashion. however, i still dont enjoy the game too much because so much is locked when you first play and i hardly understand how anything works enough to apply it to combat, sooo yeah

Sorry the game doesn’t just hand you everything or give you the ability to purchase stuff.. Power shift is the best mode to learn regardless, fastest respawns quickest way to get VRs to unlock stuff and to try it out

I was so in hype for this game, I remember the emptyness of THE FINALS content on YT and watching over and over your video when you wanted to reach the top, I WAS in love with this game, Terminal Attack needs some work that they probably have done but for me as good as it can be it won't be THE FINALS, as an ex R6 player I like the idea but not as the main game mode, the game is not built for that! Over 800 hours according to Steam and I felt I had to leave a negative review to show my distaste for this update. I was fine with them adding terminal attack being a ranked gamemode, what I was not fine with was them completely removing cashout ranked gamemode. I thought there would be separate leaderboards and separate diamond rewards. Personally, I don't enjoy terminal attack I love cashout but unranked cashout is way to casual for me to find it enjoyable. I also don't think it's fair to casual players who will now have to deal with many competitive diamond players going to a casual gamemode just to play the gamemode they love. Instead of a rated game where there are actually stakes on the line and you're fighting people of equal skill. Personally, for me this change is drastic enough for me to quit the game. This isn't a balancing issue of a weapon/gadget dominating the meta, This is them removing a core part of their game.

I just wanted to say, i got into the finals a few weeks ago and i didn't even like shooters, i actually avoided them because they jusy looked boring but the Finals drew me in because pf how unique it was. The community and the dev team are in a tough position and i hate Terminal Attack but i get that they care about the amount of players cause this game clearly has a lot of care and passion behind it. I also wanna say that your reasoning and passion about the game is really noce to see and your not just taking a side or being purely negative. Great video and im excited to see more. What I haven’t heard anyone talk about is healing beam. I dont main medium heals but I know there are a ton of those players that wouldn’t be able to play their main spec in ranked and thats sad. I was watching the announcement on your stream and ottrs stream and when i was watching the trailer this was my reaction: 'HOLY SH*T THIS IS AMAZING' i was so exited, grinning from ear to ear. When i saw TA as 'a' new ranked mode, i thought 'good i guess, i won't be playing it but its nice to have both' Then i noticed ottrs reaction seemed a bit off and i knew he didn't like TA, then i thought 'wait hang on... No they wouldn't do that, no I'm being stupid Embark wouldn't do that' 5 seconds later ottr said that it was *THE* ranked mode and i deflated like a balloon. My hype was gone instantly and my gut just told me 'oh fu*k' I was genuinely just sitting there thinking aint no way, WHY would Embark do this. I get that some people like TA but it's just not very THE FINALS fast paced gameshow like. I feel it was good as a lore mode to progress the story line but not as the Main mode. I played 14 games for the cosmetics and thats it. Never again. I already miss open beta and early Season 1. And this is the wrong direction to take a game designed as a movement shooter. But i find it difficult to believe its people like oscar making these decisions, I think its someone at nexon and the devs are being forced to take all the hate, its a common thing for big money hungry companies to force the devs into unpopular decisions. Overall this could just be big waffle of bs and they could have made TA good. But even with all the changes in the world it still wont be as good as cashout in my opinion. Hope for the best and see what happens i guess.

In my opinion I’m for either whether it’s stay the same or go to terminal style rank . But the community also needs to understand embark is trying to bring this esports stages. Yes what made the finals unique was the cash out game mode . But we have to see if embark would have 2 separate rank modes . That being said for terminal attack a Power shift (if it was to come to rank.) being it’s own rank mode and cash out being the normal rank mode .

As someone else said I think they need to merge cash out and terminal attack into one tournament. It’d be weird to call this game the finals and get rid of that game show feel. As a r6 player I’m torn because when I started playing terminal attack I felt “at home” but cash out just feels so fresh to me. Maybe round one can be: 2 games, 4 teams of 3 players, cash out (how ranked is now). Round two: 1 game, 2 teams, 6 players (merge two teams of 3), terminal attack. Final round: you now have to go against the team of 3 (that you merged with in the last round to help you reach the finals 👀) in a game of 3 vs 3 cash out to 20k. This is the best solution that I can think of. Let me know what yall think or have some suggestions! I still love this game and will support it regardless just because the devs aren’t afraid of mixing things up but also still listen to the community!

Getting third partied happens to the best of us. Skill can help mitigate the damage but it is a negative side of the cashout 3x3x3x3. I do believe it happens even at the highest levels. TA being the new ranked is different, I'm sort of ok with the change, at least initially, we'll have to see how the situation evolves. I admittedly only ever played ranked to earn the diamond cosmetics and move on tho, so maybe I'm not invested enough in ranked to care about it. About the world tour, I believe this is embark's way to keep the concept of player journey progression through badge levels (as mentioned in the ranked blog post on the website). Since they mentioned that rank and league will reflect much more the skill level than what it has been so far and might make it not so easy to level up to diamond by just grinding.

If they make Terminal Attack the only ranked mode as it is right now, with no changes, it's gonna be a huge flaw. I like to play all the classes, and it's no surprise for anyone that light is the worst class by far, you can make it viable if you play some gadgets and guns, but it has a ridiculous high skill floor (compared to Medium and Heavy), and even if you are good at the game and play light as it is supposed to be played, you're just better off playing other class. That's all to say, that if light is the clearly worst class in normal modes, in terminal attack with no full regen, heals or respawns, light is completely useless. There's no point on playing it other than say sniper from far away, and even then you're leaving (once again xd) your team in a 4v5 situation. It'd be THE FINAL nail on the coffin of the game, to turn a gamemode that literally kills one of their three classes completely, the main gamemode.

Best route in my opinion would be having 2 ranked modes like you said and then for the competitive/esport they could definitely incorporate both modes as part of a best of series similar to how COD has SND/Hardpoint/CTF etc having a mix of 1 life gamemode and respawn mode could definitely work and has been shown to work for other games

i have been enjoying TA over cash out lately, and mostly use cash out to grind challenges i also think the best solution is to keep both modes on ranked (should be doable if the player base was big enough) but if they decided against it maybe they have a good reason

I wouldnt mind if they have both tournament and terminal attack as separate options, if they're mixed together they just play wayyyyy too differently, its almost like 2 different games. If you take a look at games like overwatch, the fundamental gameplay stays pretty much the same across all game modes, so they can just have all the game modes in ranked. Hopefully they make a separate rank for both tourny and terminal, definitely would be interesting to see, but also hope the queue times wont be too long

I knew this was coming when they had introduced the new Terminal Atk mode. Glad left the game long time ago. If I wanted to play that kindof mode I'd play CSGO not Finals. They meesed up. This is what happens when you listen to the players too much. I want to play the Finals, not Volarant, not CSGO not anything similar. This is the reason I've started playing the game in the first place.

Instead of having two separate ranked game modes why don’t they implement both game modes into the ranked tournament experience. First round is Cashout, two teams qualify. Second round is terminal attack. Third round is a coin toss in game, also goes with the aesthetic of the coin death animations. One side of the coin (heads) is Terminal attack and (tails) is cash out. May the best adaptive team WIN.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that world tournament will be quite competitive. There will be ranks as well, from bronze to gold, and the best players will be rewarded with multibucks. I think the ability to earn real money to buy cosmetics will draw a lot of players to that mode that for my understanding will also be ranked.

I'm pretty sure the only reason I started playing ranked was because there was a contract about getting a win in a ranked tournament. The cosmetics, while clean and cool, weren't really a big draw to me. As long as I can continue to play Cashout, I don't really mind. I don't dislike Terminal Attack but it was really only ever a game mode I played when our group had more than 3 people that wanted to play (similar to Power Shift). What surprises me the most is that enough people liked Terminal Attack over Cashout that Terminal Attack would replace Cashout as the ranked mode. It feels weird to have a mode in an arena shooter where the intention is to be slow and methodical.

And I really like that I won’t get 3rd 3rd partied after wiping out a team or sometimes wiping out 2 teams and then the last team kills us all.. it’s pretty frustrating especially for a ranked mode so I really like that it’s a team vs team

I think the main reason why people are bashing embark for changing the gamemode is because terminal attack isnt very solo friendly and this matters. Because in the regular ranked tourneys, if you had bad teammates and you were genuinely a good player then you had some control over what the outcome could be. But now since its a 5v5 with NO RESPAWNS, it forces you to play as a team even though lots of people dont care.

A lot of people here are young. So I’ll explain some things: Nexon the publisher for the finals was not pleased at the games performance. When companies give shareholder reports the outright say things suck, they say ‘it could do better’. You don’t get promoted unless you can deliver bad news in a way that sounds good. But when you work high up in a company you can understand what they really mean - and what they meant was the game is not doing great. They actually aren’t sure why. Not enough marketing? They know the game is great, people like it a lot and review it well - it should sell itself. Too much competition? Embarks CEO understands this well. He needs to draw MORE players, because he’s got a great game they will enjoy and he wants it to succeed. So he must try something NEW if he didn’t, his boss would be also confused how he made it to CEO. If something doesn’t work try something new. Terminal Attack directly draws over Siege and CS players. If the CEO doesn’t draw in more players, well I don’t care how much YOU love the game the game YOU love will disappear. The game you love won’t morph into Siege likely, it’s just to get players to try the game and they’ll likely enjoy the other modes even more Personally, I think the game wasn’t marketed enough, and no big streamers play the game consistently. If you love this game, get your friends to try it. Tell everyone you know to try it

I’ll say this if roll lock isn’t a thing in terminal tact ranked it’s already in shambles. You should be only allowed to use two heavies, two mediums, and one light. if they allow people to use three heavies and two heal beam mediums. ranked will be cooked. let’s not forget. as a console player, having worse aim, worse reactions and worse movement, playing TA just felt like a less tactical R6, and i do not enjoy R6. thanks for informing on the ranked change, i would honestly prefer power shift ranked since that mode seems more aligned with the essence of the finals, which is levels and layers of selective chaos. But now i'll play less ranked than i already have. I'm not part of the discord, but luckily i dont think any new players would join the discord before playing the game.
