I give my thoughts on certain highlights in the Lionel catalog. There were many viewers asking me in messages and comments about what I thought about the Lionel 2024 Volume 2 catalog.

Lionel has succeeded in taking all the fun out of O gauge! Lionel O gauge that is, thats why I buy from MTH & ATLAS . Cheaper, better, DCS is great and Lionel can kiss my 🫏

Honestly there's nothing in the catalog that interests me, either in the product line or in the price I'm willing to pay.. So, I'll just do my conventional runner thing and buy used. Lionel Pre-War, Post-War, MPC, LTI, to say nothing of MTH, Williams, K-Line, there's a lot of good stuff out there looking for new homes! Thanks for posting Shawn!

@@Dakman Right! And now's a great time to go looking for it since many of the owners are at the point they're retiring and downsizing. A lot of nice trains are coming on the market and the prices are mostly reasonable. Supply and demand is working. Supply's good, demand's a bit low, for now anyway, and the prices reflect that.

The only thing I liked about the lion LG G1 is the fact that it has a diecast shell. My Williams gg1 cost me $400 each and they can go around and 042 curved. I wish Williams and Weaver and Mike's train house was still in business.

I get there's a higher profit margin from building the scale stuff, but where's the line? How far will Lionel go before people stop buying what they're offering? The hole for semi scale trains at a decent price is massive. Like what K-Line offered in the early 00s.

People definitely have the power by talking with their wallets then the company has no choice to listen. Lionel could put the LionScale line up back into production and offer a cheaper line up of rolling stock.

When the board in a Williams locomotive goes out you can always put a rectifier in line with the engine and the pickup so the AC gets changed over to DC for the motors and you have absolutely nothing to go wrong and all you have to do is just Grease the motors every 25 hours.

Prices are just way out of hand! No if ands or butts! Give me a horn and a bell. The rest can be gone and it would be perfect.

The locomotives made by Williams are that way. I heard that they are also built well and will run forever.

@@Dakman Williams locomotives are solid, rugged, and reliable. Good basic conventional control engines that just run and run. The only modifications I've done on my Williams engines is wire the motors on twin-motor diesels in series to tame them down a bit, they take off like rockets otherwise, and install an on-off switch for the smoke unit in the Berkshire. Both mods were easy to do. And one nice thing about Williams is even though they're out of production there's still quite a few out there plus collector interest in Williams products is practically non-existant which helps to keep the prices down.

Lionel priced me out of their business long ago. I won't even look at a current catalog. But, I have a basement full of o gauge from lionel and others. Mostly post war and MPC era and I'm having a ball with all of it. It amazes me that I can run a 75 year old American made loco that wears out a few parts. Spend 40 bucks on parts to fix it, and it could run perfect for another 75 years. If it's made in china it won't last nearly as long. I have many post war steamers that will NEVER be tossed out as "consumables"

Way too expensive for everything. Not everybody interested in toy trains has more money than God. We are not all rich old people. Search high prices for stuff that they pay $2 an hour for labor. Lionel fields and it has no competition so they can price things as they feel like it higher and higher prices until nobody can afford to buy anything anymore

All of the electronics jack up the price of everything that contain s them. Most people in HO scale don't have club sized layouts where the speed controls and the radio controls are actually needed. Conventional engines are much more reliable than ones with all of the electronics because you use them and they go bad or you don't use them you have them in storage and they do laminate in time.

It makes me wonder if the people running Lionel now understand the business they're in. Joshua Lionel Cowan understood the business, General Mills understood the business, Dick Kuhgn understood the business and so did Jerry Calabrese. Current Lionel management with stuff too expensively built on one end and too cheaply built on the other? I don't know...
