Thanks for this video! Recently found myself in the same situation and dint have the first clue on how to care for them if you can't find a sanctuary! Yours is the first video that actually gives you a realistic plan for caring for these babies 😊

It's amazing what Amazon will deliver these days! But thank you for sharing this with us, it really helps you realise how hard the birds work to bring up their chicks, it really is non stop. I am so sorry for the sad ending for Shrimp but it could have been much worse for him if he had been left in the wild. I have seen any locally, they are very beautiful birds.

Such a nice video. I saved a house martin almost 3 weeks ago and I wanted to ask you if I should free it where I found it or it can be set free anywhere there are house martin colonies. I don't know exactly how they group to migrate, I couldn't find anything about this. Also, I was wondering if I set it free where I found it would the parents recognize the chick based on their sounds? Any other advice would be helpful. Thanks!

hey there so if can let them practice flying( in an enclosed space) even trying to let them capture flies if at all possible for a while and then when you are confident yhey can fly perfectly release them with a colony of house Martin's,

@FionnODonoghue2 жыл бұрын
hey don't give them water that may drown them ! if there not injured they should eventually feed, depending in what type of bird tho what to food them could change, please ring a local wildlife rehabber :)

@@FionnODonoghue thx mate I have 2 house martins. Found em just walking in the garden got them in a bird house as minute with some kitchen roll and I have bought them some wax worms and meal worms. I read there don’t have water too so wasn’t certain how there drink so. Cheers

Wild life rescue won’t do shit, they’ll probably come to the determination that these birds won’t survive and kill them, your much better off taking care of them in your own

Hello. I am in the process of rearing 3 chicks, do you know of any useful websites that can help me learn more. I don't want just random info from Google and the websites I've seen so far just tell me to hand over to a professional. My chicks seem a little younger than yours I hope their appetite increases soon. Also just so you know I'm helping out with a rescue and the babies will go to an Aviary to learn to fledge.
@FionnODonoghue Жыл бұрын
I don't have any decent websites unfortunately, as the information was quiet sparce when I was searching for it also, but basically feed them live food if possible(I chose crickets and wax worms), the crickets can be dispatched however by placing them in the freezer , and feed them every hour from dawn till dusk, have them in a quiet part of the house, weigh them once a day around the same time to see if they are gaining or loosing weight, they don't need to be given water, they should get the water they need from there food ! you can easily drown a chick by trying to give it water, I also found blowing air on them and whistling varied pitches made them gape for food ! ....hope this helps and Goodluck :)

Have you tried to put them back into their net? That’s the best way to save them
@FionnODonoghue3 жыл бұрын
I mentioned at the start of the video the nest fell and only these 2 survived,
@Claudia-bo5vf3 жыл бұрын
@@FionnODonoghue you can put them back into a man-made nest on a branch if their parents are around and let their parents feed them
@FionnODonoghue3 жыл бұрын
I've heard you can do that alright, but the were at a friend's house 2 stories up with no way up there I'm afraid

I'm having two hearts about the weaker bird being put down. Could have been used as an ambassador bird in captivity since it could not survive on the wild. After all it is our urbanization and our release of house cats that put these species under threat.
@FionnODonoghue3 жыл бұрын
I know I found it hard news myself ! It was probably lack of re-sources, if it was me prob would have kept as a "pet" but that could be seen asselfish in a way also !
