There's a reason I don't engage much with the greater Marvel Snap community. My subjective, bad-faith, opinion has been that the community is 49% people who will complain about every change no matter what to the extent you wonder why they didn't leave years ago, and 49% people who will echo whatever the largest content creators are saying. Snap's made it work for a while, but with both of those sphere's (justifiably) letting too much hurt get pent up for so long it's hard to see what will help this community heal. While there are some serious problems right now, things aren't all bad. This meta's pretty diverse, lots of styles are viable. Even recent powerhouse drops like Galacta and Gorr aren't so dominating you can't work without them. While the devs can't work as fast as players want nor create the solutions people want, they still have a remarkably good track record on most fronts and there's no reason to not believe they're not actively looking to make improvements as quickly as is feasible for them. I do hope the lingering damage we'll be taking over the next few months isn't so severe we'll be able to reach a healthier future.

23:22 I think this is a combination of things but I also think people want SD to be in crunch time, like to some people I think it feels like it’s overtime and SD are fouling out and their worried the game they’ve invested their time and money into might sink further and so they’re sort of in a state of panic. I dont know how realistic that is but I think I understand the sentiment at least. Also the internet kind of filters negativity to the top. All the arishem players were having fun playing arishem now they aren’t because nerf brain says card is trash now regardless of whether or not it is or isn’t. So they’re all coming out banging things and honestly some of them might have a point nerfing something because of playrate does seem a little obtuse. Maybe Arishem should have been a game mode. I don’t know it’s weird right now.

Want to mention something about Peni since it's on my mind. If play SP//DR on Multiple man and then Move the Multiple man later on the same turn, only the "OG" copy will get Peni's move next turn effect. I think that if Pheonix Force is allowed to make all of it's copies move then SP//DR should do the same just for consistency. (And also to buff this cool deck I brewed.)

Something to consider: some amount of the “this patch didn’t change the meta enough” reactions on videos may be related to content creators’ hyperbolic presentation of every patch to chase views (“INSANE OTA,” “This changes EVERYTHING,” etc.). In general I think it’s true that negativity predominates over positivity in comment sections throughout the internet, though. Not sure if it indicates anything in particular about the health of Snap, but I can imagine it’s annoying for creators.

I have never liked playing move. That move bounce deck is absolutely deadly. Climbed from 40 to 60 in 2.5 hours last night and had a lot of fun doing it. Bravo!

Thanks for the video and the decks. I came across a quote a while back: "Ten who scream make more noise than one hundred who are silent." It's unfortunately true that the negative opinions tend to be the loudest and get the most attention, and not just in Marvel Snap. And I'm not sure what, if anything, can be done about that.

I wasn't entirely sold on picking up Peni Parker at first but since I was missing the other two cards in the spotlight (Series 4, but new cards are new cards), and the fact that you seemed pretty positive about the card, especially as a mainstay of Wiccan, I grabbed her and can say you can probably add her to the list of cards that other content creators seem to be sleeping on but you been recommending (Ajax, Anti-Venom). She's not as underrated as those other cards, but I still feel like a lot of folks are sleeping on her, thinking, "Oh yeah sure, she seems good, but not a must have." From my experience, your advice seems right, she's basically now a mandatory part of any Wiccan deck. In fact, I didn't even super enjoy playing Wiccan before. He was fun and strong, but the consistency was always a sticking issue with me. But the new decks that use Quicksilver (who would've thought lol) and then a bunch of cheap cards that make other cards like Kate Bishop, Cable, and now Wiccan just make the deck feel sooo much more consistent.

I personally think and have told to my Snap friends that the meta ahs been like very good for the last like 4 to 6 weeks, there's a ton of variety in the decks, yeah there's many midrange, but there's a lot of midrange *styles*¨there's mroe explosive ones, there are ones with more rng, others more backloaded, like man, I cant belive we can play decks with the Darkhawk-Devil Dinosaur-Ronan trio AGAIN and at the same time with the Red Hulk-Doctor Doom-Alioth trio, with different ways to reach them, there's move focused on lower costs, Wiccan curve, Surfer Galacta, Scream decks and you can still play stuff on side like Tribunal bc nobody play Enchantress, or Arishem, I think the only thing with lower chances to shine is pure Zoo.

Finding out people don't like this meta is such a shock to me. It feels like there's 10+ playable decks and while a lot of them are midrange there's like 5 different flavours of them that all play fairly differently. And even then, like you said combo feels fine. I'm not high infinite (in the 3000's rn) but I took hela from 6000 to my current rank. It really does feel like the economy/card acquisition issues are affecting how people view the OTAs, which is fair but frustrating since it means we're all arguing from different vantage points.

I defensively include it when recommending a deck in a general sense since I've had people tell me it's not showing up in high infinite (not going to go into the issues I find with that cause I think we're on the same page there). It just makes talking about the OTA/meta frustrating cause while I think most negative opinions are valid or coming from a sincere position, it's hard to engage with them since I can build almost anything while a lot of those people either got their only decks nerfed or are hoping OTAs will give them a new deck to play.

I play that Thanos Wiccan deck with my own brew: I replaced 3M, Gladiator and Gorr for: Luke, Anti Venom and Cull, feels really good to play, snd Psylock is worth more with 2 more 4’s

No one’s really talking about that scream deck but the fact you could run 2 6 drops and play both is so clutch. Not to mention the amount of 8 cubes I’ve stolen due to jugg and miles is astounding. I think what makes scream so good to play is the disruption is so face up for the player you have as much board manipulation whilst also controlling how much ramp they have with the luna ice block is nuts. Draw depending, I mostly feel in control of the games played. I’m very interested in trying a surprise 6 drops, the doom is very tempting to spread wide as the decks pretty low in ceiling.

I think the meta is in a really good spot. I have multiple decks I enjoy playing atm and the matchups I’ve been seeing have also been pretty diverse. But damn, you nailed it when you talked about the devs not being able to do anything without the pitchforks coming out. I feel like a few issues with the game (stuff they are actively working on) totally eclipse all the positive changes they’ve made over the last couple years. Been playing myself since global launch. Still play every day. This game is awesome and I feel like the general trajectory is positive.

Just wanna say that I watch all your videos and I appreciate how they keep me in the loop and give me decks to try. I have been playing (and enjoying) Marvel Snap more than ever. Just wanted to provide a different perspective. I do own almost all the cards and am in the top 100 or higher for context. I understand how people's perspectives tend to be way more negative. The worst thing about MS for me is that I can't get any of my friends (who are giga tryhards who are easily convinced usually!) to play the game because of the long wait to get to play the good/fun cards.

20:01 I'll be honest I was ticked they touched Arishem. Until I realized the deck didn't get nerfed as bad as I thought. I have always been saying that they should leave the card alone though so it irks me that they touched it though. I feel like the same thing is going to happen with Rocket and Groot (as much as I sound like a broken record about that stupid card in your streams). Everybody thinks I'm overreacting but this is the 2nd card in the entire history of Marvel Snap that I have just thought on release is going to be absolutely broken... The first was OG Red Hulk and we know how that turned out. We're talking about a card that probably on average gets as big if not bigger than speed that also can move. People say to me that Luke Cage beats the card but he straight up does not. He just makes the card old nocturne with no drawback. Idk who thought this card was ok, but we are about to see in a few weeks, that this card is not going to be ok. People like to defend rocket and groot but I am interested in seeing after the card is out how many people are suddenly on my side out of nowhere like with you and I on the Arishem nerf for example 😂. Anyway love your content and Arishem will still be my main 👍

Im kind of of two minds about the "are negative opinions the only opinions that will ever filter to the top of conversation" thing. Like this has been an issue with Snap for a while. Players, sometimes reasonably often unreasonably, get very loudly angry about every decision made in this game. Whether it be a good or bad decision, good decisions are never good enough and bad decisions are the end of the world. For the first time in the 2 years though i think i may be a part of that group. Im less loudly angry about it, some of the shit ive seen directed at Glenn and the other devs sucks to see. At the same time though, SD has siphoned a lot of player trust these last few months. The lack of movement on the important changes that need to happen is super problematic for the games long term health and i really only see 2 steps that can be taken to fix it. We need like 3-5 Ultron/Klaw level buffs for F2P cards and there has to be some level of economy adjustments. Theyve been talking about economy fixes for like a year and it just hasnt happened, then they throw those genuinely kinda gross series 4 card bundles at players after that long with no change. It sucks. I still enjoy the game and this doesnt directly affect me, im only missing like 13 cards, but we are at a breaking point for a lot of players so the small goods feel too little too late.

Imma be honest, move bounce is the reason I got infinite the past 2 seasons. Its so powerful in fact, that I regularly keep playing into mr.negative->jane and actually winning. Like no deck used to be able to do that consistently. The thing about this deck that is so powerful, is that its very hard to find a counter to it or a deck that makes you autoretreat. I think KMbest is underselling how powerful this deck is even in lower tiers, cause I do believe there are enough people interested in move bounce, and just like me they are practicing and getting better. I hope it doesnt get nerfed, but am really surprised how it hasnt gottend nerfed so far

People wouldn't have this learned behavior if they hadn't been treated so poorly for YEARS at this point. I've been playing since a month of two after launch with a 2-3 month break this summer. As punishment for this minor break, I can't play almost any deck you recommended. I could play Move Bounce which frankly I'm terrible at, or Arishem, which I never really enjoyed anyways. These things leave bad tastes in people's mouths and color their opinions. They treat players like walking dollar signs, make every new card the immediate new meta, then make sure nobody can get those cards except content creators that splash money on the game, and whales. Do they make this better with the old cards in caches? No, they offer X-23 etc 50,000 times instead. Do I even need to bring up series drops? They have a "reverse halo" effect at this point because they've abused players with pure greed. I have an offer in my shop right now to buy Pixie and 2 keys for $75. 1 non-meta card and 2 keys. $75. It's unbelievable. Are they good at OTAs and adjustments? Almost always (except that Luke Cage one once and I'm sure some others, but their batting average is high). I do believe they generally get things right. But people are unhappy with them overall, which is going to color their reactions to... well, everything. They seem to have zero interest in making it right either, while Marvel Rivals shows that greed actually ISN'T a requirement for a Marvel license (often an excuse with Snap) and Pokemon Snap (though it's not for me) came out swinging and is a huge immediate success. tldr - They need to show players some love if they want that in return. ps - great video, you're great as always, not trying to sound angry, just trying to explain what I believe to be the cause of these knee-jerk reactions

I agree the returning player issue is a problem that needs solving. The game actively rewards players the complete dailies and punishes those that take a break. However i daresay there are other decks you can build. They just aren't the hotness right now. Also these decks can have some cards replaced and have multiple versions with different packages.

I love Arishem but have mostly avoided playing him because of how busted he was and how toxic the discourse was around him. I'm all for this nerf. I can finally play the deck without feeling guilty about it! Hopefully they can go back and fix Loki now.

A big reason for the constant negative feedback for balance changes is that they are inconsistent in their approach. Lots of cards are adjusted up or down because of meta performance, but not always. Sometimes a game piece valued at $60-100 is made worse at what seems like a whim with reasons like "it made opponents feel bad", "It's too popular" , or "because we wanted to shake things up". When you make balance adjustments based on such obvious subjective metrics it's inevitable players that paid for the cards as they were printed would be upset you are changing their experience.

As a Black Bolt main, I used Goon Knight all the way into infinite. The entire Dark Hawk package isn't really needed at all, especially with Black Widow losing a point and Arishem being easier to solo now with just Cassie. I swapped those three cards with Spider-Ham, Gladiator, and Red Guardian which has been a really good mix of answers to everything.

Big Thanos Wiccan fan here, it’s been my main consistent deck since last season and through Deadpool’s diner. Peni now makes for a solid gladiator replacement too 👌 . I will say, it’s oddly biggest limitation is board space (laying all the stones out), and hand space (I’ve had random card generate zones screw me by overstuffing my hand). But beyond the Wiccan high roll happening a decent amount, it was the games I won without him that impressed; with him though, it represents a stupid amount of play lines to confused the opponent into staying and winning more cubes 👌 , and I think that’s why the deck is ultimately so dang good and yeah better with Wiccan. But also yeah, manage board space (that being said I’ve gotten Wiccan ramp, plus 20 power Thanos and also still room a gor elsewhere 👌🖤👾 )

I was playing it with fenris in there, too. sometimes not room for fenris, but other times you end up with a big card from a shang chi finisher. I run Gladiator, and Nega as well so you are usually hitting something.

@@spincut13 I tend to go for fenris on T6 in most cases. nega and gladiator are less likely to hit a big, swingy card than shang chi is. that's the duality of the card really. you might just pull a 3/3, or you could pull their gorr.

I think ur opinion was valid. Ur a Top player too, if u say Arishem still works it most definitely still works. Arishems doubling up on cards was the only reason I just stop playing against arishem players all together. Auto retreat YUP. Double Cosmo, Shang chi, Alioth was just the evilest cheat. I like the current meta for once. I mean wiccan is everywhere which scares me, I hope they don't nerf him but it's pretty diverse. I can play ten matches rn and for once not fight the same decks. Alot of archetype are in play, it's abit chaotic but fun.

I think Second Dinner put together an excellent game with an excellent concept and excellent flavor. The complainers don’t understand how to give constructive criticism and think they have all the answers as to how to buff and nerf their favorite fantasy game characters, but don’t work as video game developers for some reason. SD is doing an amazing job and if they could fix the card acquisition and monetization, they’d have a banger of a game.

I don't even think it's required in Wiccan. Does it make Wiccan more consistent? I guess so but the question is how much really? I would say it's marginally. I took IKAs DD Wiccan decks and placed Valentina on place of Penni and from about 20 games where Wiccan showed I was unable to play him once. There is no guarantee Pwnni would've showed in that game to help my Wiccan so for me it's a skip

Love your content, especially the best decks vids for the new release cards and these best decks videos. You are just a brilliant deck brewer and I really appreciate you. Last night on Twitch, I was critical of the Arishem nerf specifically. I dont think the patch was bad overall and in fact nothing else that was touched was wrong in my opinion. My criticism was based on the patch notes where they stated the reason for the nerf to Arishem was because too many people were playing arishem. For a game to hurt a card that so many people enjoy BECAUSE THEY ENJOY IT AND ARE PLAYING IT ALOT seems tone deaf and just wrong. Especially at a time when people are decrying the card acquisition system as being too difficult to keep up with. I am concerned and feel if they keep making dumb moves like this without significantly making card acquisition easier for all players, new players will just quit without engaging, and invested players will quit because the grind to keep up with weekly series 5 releases is just too expensive and hard. I would hate to see this happen because I love the game and I want it to be healthy.

Scarlet Spider not cutting it for you this time? I just picked the card up, and really having a lot of fun with it. I don't have Gwenpool, so made a Namora/Galacta deck. Also Put him into a Wiccan deck, just using merge cards as my second buff line (to make up for not having gwenpool) I put Shaw in the deck too, as he gets his effect when you merge him with stuff, too. Definitely love the idea of Scarlet Spider, and getting him for 3 with Zabu, then having him become 20 or 30 points on the board is pretty good, too. I am hoping I get some mileage with the card in Doom 2099 decks, too, then it will have 100% bee worth my tokens. I was going to get Gwen next, but Scarlet Spidey showed up first. I'd rather get and play another card I am interested in, than be say waiting for another card to show up.

I thought they were good changes overall. It's nice not facing the same 2-3 decks every game. It did get old facing Arishem every 2nd match or so though. I think the card will be fine, we'll have to see how the change affects things. I personally don't need the meta to be completely shaken up and changed around mid-season.

personally i am not mad at the Frigga buff specific (very low impact) but the fact that a very strong assortment of decks is recieving a Buff every OTA, as the previous was Heimdall, now frigga. Also for some reason Move has multiple good locations, even +1 in this new season...while discard will recieve an instant game over location next week. How in the hell someone can say that it's fine

totally agree with you at the end, but at the very least i know the general popular consensus tends to be the most negative no matter what. i remember the prevailing opinion on hearthstone being and staying negative for AGES, even back 7 years ago. i still see people playing it in public to this day, if anything the popular opinion going negative recently may coincide with the open beta 2 years ago and full release a year and a half ago. honeymoon's over, IG. damn shame

I thought the patch was pretty great, and the meta is wide open! I've played a multitude of archetypes this season and I'm in top 5k infinite for the first time. Maybe the negativity is just easier to spew consistently? I'm not sure, but until card acquisition changes, people will have the ability to complain about any decision since the community sees SD as "greedy". Once they fix that, I think the complainers will have a much harsher light shone upon them.

Personally I think all the negativity about the ota is just a side effect of general unhappiness with the games state the past few months. The developers have constantly stated that they’re working on things that the community keeps bringing up like the economy, character mastery, overpriced bundles etc. and we NEVER see any change outside of them saying they’re working on it. It’s exhausting. Combine that with the meta being stale for a while it just makes people upset. I for one wanted more buffs in the ota. This game has no actual set releases so the only time the game is shaken up is with the ota’s. 1 new card a week barely upsets the meta unless it’s bonkers and then when it’s bonkers people complain cause they feel they can’t get it due to the economy. Then when they finally do get it, the devs took too long to balance it and it gets nerfed. Snap needs to be overhauled Econ wise and the devs need to stop promising things that they routinely just back out of or act like they never said.

Thanks for speaking about it at the end, snap unfortunately is in it's ragebait fase where outrage is promoted by the community and some content creators which then generate even more negativity. I hope snap starts taking some W's so that the doomers shut up, frankly i think the last OTA did what it had to, the meta is healthy/diverse, OTAs will never please every one tho.

People have lost faith in SD. The Arishem backlash is also tied to the economy. Spending 6k tokens and having a card that many consider a budget deck makes people regret spending resources. ( i hate arishem btw)z Everything just goes back to the economy. All reactions will be negative till its fixed

Move bounce is balanced by being not consistent enough and being kind of mentally taxing to play. Also they already nerfed it a while back with beast and taskmaster

I think the negativity radiates from the same old card acquisition issue. People are irritated by that one big thing (regardless about whether it really is bad or not) that's prevalent and then it's exactly like you said - reverse halo effect, but with card acquisition being the source. I might be wrong, but it usually happens when people are upset about one thing and keep waiting for a divine intervention, then being disappointed on every change about that thing basically. Fixing that one big issue makes players satisfied and more accepting of further change. You gotta throw a bone every now and then.

I stopped playing snap. Just watch the videos. I was one of the comments not happy with this patch. I just think SD relies way too much on balance adjustments and often seems clueless about the cards they release, which becomes frustrating. It’s not that everything they do is wrong, it’s that everything they do is wrong, you know? By that I mean their philosophy of “we’ll fix it in a patch” creates a bad user experience for everyone who isn’t collection complete. You are collection complete, so you don’t notice it as much. Or do notice it but second hand. You also play a ton everyday so changes to the meta are fine. But for people who have a pet deck, it’s a miserable experience.

Gamers or people in general have become entitled whinny negative naysayers. Snap is still an amazing game and card acquisition isn't as bad as people make out. There are issues for returning players, but I feel most people jumping on the band wagon just want everything for free and have unrealistic expectations.

The whole perception that second dinner is doing everything wrong is really just how communities are. I'm a big part of the path of exile community as well, and with the recent release of path of Exile 2, despite the fact that it's a objectively really good game and half a million people are consistently playing it every night, the vocal minority are pretty brutal towards GGG and their choices. The unfortunate reality is that as human beings we focus on negative things and tend to be more vocal about them than we are about positive things. It's also the case that because of the general sentiment surrounding marvel snap, the conversation is in general going to be much more negative. With large issues like acquisition, people are going to constantly nitpick at any other decision that's made even if those decisions aren't bad themselves. Do I think that all of the negative conversations would go away if they fixed acquisition? No of course not but I think that they would lessen a bit, and you would likely have less vocal people talking about how second dinner is messing up this game. Importantly, when people are negative about something it's because they actually care about that thing. With most people, if you don't have any investment in something then you won't waste your time (of course this is the internet and people tend to do some pretty brainless things). My point is, yeah it's a troubling trend but it's not uncommon in these game communities.

Of course it's always the bad reaction that floats to the top. Thats because players are hamstrung by the economy and card acquisition so everything feels bad. Imagine if most players have access to all cards easily, i bet it will soften the "blows" from all of the nerfs and buff decisions. People will be able to actually experiment and flow with the meta. Without it, players are just waiting for the cards they own to be buffed to become the "best deck" otherwise its complain about "when is it going to be my turn to be on top?"

Honestly I feel the snap community became very toxic and in some parts also delusional. 1. Card Acquisition: I think its fair to say that SD ran into a dead end with this. As someone who plays since 2 years (with 4 months break inbetween) and buys the season pass every month I still say snap is by far the cheapest digital card game. But this comes at the cost of FOMO and being forced to play every single day. For a new play i imagine it must be very hard to catch up tho. All that said is the system as people make it out to be? Surely not. Maybe people didn't play enough magic or hearthstone. To get decks there in my experience is way more expensive. And just wait till pockets honey moon phase is over... The cost will rise as well. 2. Balance: I think we reached a point where many snap players are burned out by the game. Maybe really because it forces you to play every single day. People get so easily annoyed over little things and no matter how good or bad sd balances stuff people Always complain. So all that said. What could safe snap? Honestly I don't have the answer. One thing I would surely do is remove the daily pressure. Let us stack quests over 3-4 days so that we can skip a day without missing out. And with spotlights it's a though call. I wouldn't get rid of them. I still feel they are amazing and I still feel its important for snap that we get a new card every week. Maybe let us customize our spotlights more? Let's say the 4th slot in the spotlight is a card of our choice (or a variant if you don't want a card or have all) . So that we always have 2 hits in the caches. I know that would be a huge change and surely cut some money from SD. But it would make the whole system feel way more rewarding. That way you would also lose a little bit of FOMO as it would be way easier to pick up a card later down the line. Know that i think of it that way you could even think of getting rid of tokens completely. Give us more keys, no more tokens and instead we can customize one slot in the spotlight. I honestly wonder what you think of this idea KM? Do you think it would help the came without cutting to much money away from sd?

Buff unused cards like quake, Medusa, lizard, punisher, namor, rhino... Literally no one plays and feels bad getting these... That way playrate can still differ.. arishem had ok winrate, just over popular. So... I don't think the solution is nerfing arishem. Instead buff these.. Regarding the patch I'm happy about the buffs. Not so happy about the nerfs. Especially typhoid Mary was uncalled for. I never play her but I know it was too much.

The effect you’re reacting to is simple survivorship bias. People who are content spend their time enjoying themselves and generally have no reason to communicate publicly or agitate for change. Think of them as social “dark matter”. _Most_ people are in this group. Content creators in general have the psychological disposition to not really get that. _Most_ (nearly all) people have no desire for fame or even attention, not even wanting to post comments online unless they feel sufficiently anonymous. The vast bulk of the internet are what we used to call “lurkers”-reading but never posting. Why isn’t that apparent? Because the tiny percentage who do desire attention, or who are at least are motivated enough to try to agitate, do almost *all* the broadcasting, so if you don’t put effort into balancing your viewport into reality, you’ll assume that the average of broadcast opinions is reality. By far, most opinions are not broadcast. The news is called “new (plural)” for a reason-only things considered unusual, novel, or unknown are broadcast.
