That is impressive. I think the most I have read in a year is 56 novels. That was in 2018 after my father died and my husband and I started having issues. Thankfully we worked through it. Maybe it’s because I had my nose in books and ignored everything? We’ll never know.

Gathering Storm is one of my favorites in the WoT series too -- some iconic scenes in there. Hearing you talk about it in your earlier review has made me decide I've got to try Kings of the Wyld next year. Great to see The Trouble with Peace in there -- I think it would be in my top three for the year. That is a beautiful edition of Warbreaker! I'll be reading Gravel Peril soon, but I've got a long way to go to catch up to you in the Dresden Files. Malice is amazing so far, so I can't wait to get to Ruin! That's an impressive year of reading, my friend. May you have great fulfillment from your reading in 2021!

Great top 10 (I would SO watch the Mikeys!!!). I haven't read as many books as usual because the whole virus thing threw me off my reading mojo. But amongst my favourites this year have been Poppy War and Dragon Republic, Rage of Dragons and Fires of Vengeance, the Bear and the Nightingale trilogy, A long way to a small angry planet, and Terry Pratchett's Truth (the one about the newspaper). However my absolute top read this year was The Sword of Kaigen - granted a slow start, but ends up being a great story with absolute gut punching twists (as a Mum of boys this book totally broke me). I look forward to your brilliant book reviews in the year ahead 😊

I only got into reading again near the end of last year after years of not reading very much. 90% of the books I read this year were King, and I've loved just about all of them, but I also read Clive Barker's Books of Blood Vol 1-3 and man are they good. I've also got many on my "to read" list thanks to your channel. Going to try Dune soon thanks to you. Happy New Year, and thanks for inspiring me to start reading more horror, fantasy and sci fi!

Thanks again Mike, I picked up The Empire of Silence for some sci fi pallet cleansing and boy did it go down smooth. One of the rare few series that I just couldn't put down until I was finished with three books that are out. Only shame is that I need to wait for the next installment. On to the Theft of Swords, let's see what's that about. I have read the rest of the list, except Dresden Files, for some reason it just doesn't speak to me, maybe one day. I'm really glad you liked Gwynne as you did, his books felt like such a perfect fit for you while reading them.

Hey Mike. I'm really enjoying your channel. Subscribed. I recent bought a kindle Oasis, as in typical fashion, i read way way more than ever before it.. took me months to finish Dune in paperback although i really enjoyed it, and I've read 12 books in three weeks since i got the Kindle. Almost exclusively scifi. Keep up the good content, keep up the sci Fi predominantly, and I'll keep on watching. Thanks for some good recommendations, i started Hyperion yesterday. Planning on reading the leviathan series after that, i think space opera is my jam. If you're interested in a really fun, cheap, Amazon scifi opera, try Mars colony. No aliens.

I've read 45 books this year. I have a broader mix of titles in my reading diet. Two of my favorites of the year kind of intersect with what you like to read. I was totally blown away by the horror novel The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones told from the viewpoint of Native American characters and including myths of the American West. I also read a vastly entertaining mystery/dark fantasy type book by Jeff Noon called The Body Library. It has a Twin Peaks or Twilight Zone vibe to it where the explanations for things and people don't square with our reality. You might enjoy both of them yourself. Happy New Year! P.S. I listened to you talk about Joe Abercrombie so much I decided to try his books. He's a little out of my wheelhouse but he writes with such wit and creativity I'll be fine with visiting his world from time to time. I read Sharp Ends to get a taste of what he does. I liked it. I'll probably re-read that one after I've read The First Law trilogy.

Man, you've got a way of breaking my heart and making my day all in the span of 2 videos. I am pumped that THEFT OF SWORDS made your "best" list. As you may recall, Riyria Revelations is my favorite series. But then you broke my heart by placing RISE OF EMPIRE (namely, "The Emerald Storm") in your "disappointing" list. But I can understand your points. Just make sure you read HEIR OF NOVRON soon. Incredible ending to a great series.

I've read 105 this year, so a solid list for me. I read a lot of genres, so my list may be different than others on there. And I also give a series a single entry instead of just picking a book. 1. Wheel of Time 2. The Stand (I include re-reads) 3. Mistborn Trilogy (Era 1) (never read Sanderson until this year - have a lot of catching up to do!) 4. The Summer Guest - Justin Cronin 5. Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami 6. Of Mice and Men 7. A Column of Fire - Ken Follett 8. Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood 9. Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami 10. Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens

73 books is such a huge number. I've only read a few myself, few enough to rank it without missing any 1. The Blade Itself. This is by far the best book I've read this year, and I adore Abercrombie's writing style. The characters are the best in modern fantasy, in my opinion. Glokta and Ninefingers are my personal favorites. 2. (A reread, but I'm still counting it) Watchmen. I purchased and read the entire series of comics, and they're even better than I remember. I definitely count comics as actual books, and Watchmen is the reason why. 3. The Time of Contempt. Sapkowski's writing style didn't quite sit well with me in Blood of Elves, but I definitely came to appreciate it more with this one. The development starting to happen in Geralt certainly has me excited for the remainder of the series. 4. Blood of Elves. It's not as good as The Time of Contempt, but I loved the introductions of the characters in the book, and the establishment of the kingdoms and plotline itself. 5. A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This is my personal favorite Hunger Games book, but that's probably just my bias towards the character of President Snow. 6. The Empress. I have a soft spot for stories about artificial humans, and for YA books. It got darker than anticipated, and I actually quite liked the writing. I think these books would benefit heavily from movie adaptations. Honorable mention: To Sleep In a Sea of Stars. I haven't finished it yet, but as of the middle of the second part I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Looking towards the future, I already have a rather hefty TBR for 2021. Baptism of Fire, Before They Are Hanged, Last Argument of Kings, Best Served Cold, and Dune. The video on this channel about Dune sold me on it enough to pick up the deluxe edition on Amazon (it's like half price if anyone reading this wants a copy)

I read 24 this year, following the one per author rule my favourites would be: 1) Best Served Cold /Joe Abercrombie 2) Words of Radiance / Brandon Sanderson 3) Summer Knight / Jim Butcher 4) Artificial Condition / Martha Wells 5) The Rise of Kyoshi / F.C Yee (that one may be due to a healthy dose of nostalgia but meh I really enjoyed it 😅)

I read 26 books in the first 6 months of the year (which is around my normal pace of 4-5 a month), but only 4 in the second 6 months as corona lockdown fatigue/work really cut into my reading time. I'd say my top 5 reads were: 1. Parable of the Sower (Earthseed) - Octavia Butler 2. The Lady of The Lake (The Witcher) - Andrzej Sapkowski 3. Battle Ground (The Dresden Files) - Jim Butcher 4. All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries) - Martha Wells 5. Rage of Dragons (The Burning) - Evan Winder Honorable mentions: Gideon the Ninth, Why We're Polarized, Ninefox Gambit, and The House of the Spirits.
