Matt, I usually don't comment on KZbin, but we appreciate all the hard work you put into the videos. I think breaking up the weekly updates into segments for the algorithm will help, as short form content is very popular and should reach out to a wider audience. I look forward to the weekly updates every Friday, I hope they don't go away, but even once a month would be better than nothing. The problem is information moves so fast with short videos and posts, it is hard to keep up with it. I appreciate that you are my one stop shop for all car-related news. It sucks to see a lot of the OG Car reviewers like you, SaabKyle04, Redline Reviews, and Alex on Autos not pulling the same views as you all did back in the day. @@MattMaranMotoring Would like to see both actually. So many cars now have these 'dancing light' shows at startup that really can't be appreciated during the day. Not that it's important in a purchase decision but would be neat to see. Seeing how the car looks at night from the outside would be a nice touch for your reviews. Also the interior, where we live when we drive, would be nice. A nice nighttime look at the dash and ambient lighting, etc.

If the other channels do well with full reviews during the embargo, I would suggest joining in to be competitive with those videos. Love the vids, I still recommend exhaust revs clips, I see other channels that get a lot of activity on videos that showcase the exhaust note. Doesn’t have to be driving, just revving the engine, I think it will help.

I love this channel and really appreciate your work! I recently found myself in a conundrum and i think others may well relate (and hopefully inspire some content for you to further distinguish yourself from other youtubers). No matter how expensive cars are getting, the money regular folks have to buy them, isnt. I have saved about 5-10k in cash and am eager to buy a second car that is fun to drive but can do some family errands if push comes to shove. I imagine many other car enthusiasts with families are in similar boats! I ended up watching your videos from 2013/2014 of fiesta STs, SIs and other cars that are now actually attainable for regular people. As you started on the channel before, I think your expertise in trawling through car archives to find cheap options that we can actually afford and provide good, wholesome fun is really going to create good content that people will be interested in, especially as things like the Ionic 5N are winning car of the year (no offense! 😃)

POV videos would be nice and easy to do, but I don't like showing my exact speed in videos, blurring it is a pain, and I don't think people would enjoy watching me drive the speed limit, at least in the sporty vehicles. So that's why I haven't participated in the POV trend yet. Wish I could, I'm jealous of the guys that can just put a GoPro on their hat, drive and talk, and upload it as basically one take lol.

It’s crazy when you think about it because that vehicle came out of left field. You never hear people talking about the ioniq 5 as being sporty and then all of a sudden it becomes Car the year on so many people’s list. The way they designed it and the N cars in general how they give so much competition to other vehicles.

I agree I think short clips or even highlights of your reviews would help with people clicking on your videos. Most people don't click on a video simply because it is too long, Similar to how some people skip long comments on reddit because they don't want to read such a long post, The same concept applies to videos, There is actually research on how the longer a video is (After a certain amount of minutes) the less views it gets. Matt, I definitely appreciate the hard work you put into your videos. I always sit down on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings to watch your weekly updates. Also, your reviews have honestly greatly aided and influenced the purchase of my last 3 vehicles: a 2020 Sonata Limited, 2023 Sonata N-Line, and now a 2023 Charger Scat Pack Widebody. I also recommend your videos to others when I hear that they're in the market for a car. Overall I think separating the news stories out is a great idea. I also definitely think you should focus more on dedicated short-form content. These days, a vast majority of the automotive content I consume is Shorts. So it might be worthwhile to maybe film 60 second reviews or like interior overviews or something. I have seen your shorts recommended to me of your acceleration reactions. Also, I like the headcam POV style driving videos. I know other channels do it, but that could be cool to incorporate. Anyway just my .02 lol. Have a great 2025 Matt.

I know short form stuff is popular and it's one thing I haven't done well adapting to, it just pays basically nothing and from my experiments with the acceleration shorts, they don't really boost the channel much either. But for the shorter Weekly Update clips I might try to do those as vertical shorts. POV videos would be nice and easy to make, but to me there's just too much risk showing my speed, even if it's somewhat blurred.

2025 is a year of (hopefully) change. Media consumption has changed drastically since you started and like the other commenter said, this affects pretty much all of the original car channels, Saabkyle, Redline, etc. The original long form of media has really fallen back a good bit since then, but some videos still do well. Really should lean into some of the shorter form media like you said to get some new exposure with younger audiences. A lot of us were quite young when we first subscribed to you, and what was relevant to us back then doesn't necessarily sell for younger people today. The Miata video did well, because it's a unique vehicle and people wanted to see every thing about it, people were so interested they would sit and watch the entire thing; we can't say the same for every car though. Perhaps try doing more videos of engine swapped and tuned cars? The viewers cars? The car rebuild genre has taken off because it's a bit more engrossing and mysterious. People LOVE drama! The week with the 2025 Dodge RAM video did well, because it had issues and people LOVE bad news! It's entertaining listening to you say yeah none of this stuff worked. Perhaps making some shorter summary car review clips/reels/videos for certain, less interesting cars, for people that just want your quick take on things. People shopping for basic vehicles many times really just want your word on it if it's decent or not. I would be eager to try new things and see what gets traction, any company has to take a chance and see what works. Maybe car reviews is on the way out, but doing weirder things with cars seems to be in. Best of luck and Happy New Year!

I have been guilty of skipping a weekly update if there doesn't look like there is any interesting news (to me) from the blurb or thumbnail so breaking each segment up is a great idea. Separating the walk arounds and interior reviews from the driving portion for embargo car reveals is definitely a good idea. The hype for a new car gets people to click on anything related to it and if you are waiting days to post your full video you miss out on all of the casual views. I bought my 17 Civic SI and my Ridgeline because of your reviews, I trust your opinions and hope 2025 is a great year for your channel!

Hey Matt been watching for years, found you when you had the eco boots. Love the weekly updates. I think those changes for the small cuts is a great idea. If people don’t like two videos for new vehicle launches that’s going to be a small minority. I recently leased a Chevy Equinox ev party because of your review. Plus the insensitive’s were crazy good. Keep up the good work. Look forward to watching in 2025. Ps if you are ever in Utah I have a 1995 spyder 3000gt you could do a video on. It’s all original and immaculate.

Matt, the last 2 ideas are definitely worth a try. The shorts are going to be feasible. Have you considered splitting the channel like one dedicated to EV and another to ICE

I've considered it but I'm worried that in the far-off future the gas channel might get fairly dead.

@ naw mate. ICE and or PHEV is here for another 20 years. Out here in the land down under EV’s we were getting incentivised Ty the government, after the first few months that died down, and PHEVs and hybrids have taken over in magnitudes. In countries like ours (the US and AU) the distances negate battery use due to the time and range against them. Just so you know, I’m all for EV but they are at least 20 years from being practical and or safe.

Hey Matt. One thing that you could do for your reviews is have an identifiable style of thumbnail that pops out when looking at the uploads page. Something like a thick green bar towards the bottom that says “Review”. That way, people like myself that go to the uploads page can just do a visual scan and mentally filter the reviews video we’re looking for while at the same time being exposed to your other content.

@ Had one. The ERAY is better. Quicker. It destroys the Z06 in auto cross and light to light races. Live in the PNW, the AWD makes it a safe year round car.

Good luck with your channel, maybe more Miata videos :). I've always heard it's the answer to all car related questions. Or if you think along the same lines doing reviews of modified cars might be the way to go. Go to the drag strip watch a cool car win a race and then do a review of that car. How about cross pollination with other reviewers, I think this could help expand your viewership. You could try doing full reviews with your wife. The banter helps and another perspective especially if the car is practical like a SUV/minivan. In the new year, I'm hopeful with the new administration we'll see less regulation of the car industry.

I think focus on KZbin shorts as well. Short vertical format has taken off a lot (I’ve found a lot of car reviewers through KZbin shorts and TikTok) and they will introduce you into a new audience to bring them to your long format content. I love the weekly updates as well but maybe updating them will help? Either a new style or format. I used to watch Fast lane daily and loved the way they formatted their videos. If you have wrenching abilities maybe start a project? 21:39

When I tried Shorts a couple years ago they didn't really help or do anything from what I could see, so I quit bothering. But if some of those weekly update clips are short enough, I may try to convert them to vertical. I have no wrenching abilities or any time for a project sadly lol.

Oh, as for what I'm excited for in 2025...I've come to realize after driving my 2022 Elantra N for a few years that I have less interest in low-slung manual performance cars and more interest in things that are comfortable and otherwise interesting. I've always liked Jeep and the UX in their vehicles (audio controls on the back of the steering wheel, heated seat and wheel turning on automatically when ambient temp is under 40 degrees, etc) so I'm excited to see how they fill out the sparse bottom end of their lineup in the next couple years.
