I loove my Derwent products!! I had a couple on my list in last year's video! It's so hard to do these lists without repeating the same thing every year, so I left them off this time but still absolutely love them. The Derwent Inktense products are some of my top all-time favorites!! So unique and different, can't praise them enough! The Derwent Lightfast pencils are one of my main go-tos! I also really love their Graphitint line, so neat and fun to work with! They have a lot of great products.

Thanks Bel! That's funny because I have had the opposite experience. I was used to working with watercolors because that's where I started, but then I moved on to acrylics. So, when I first tried gouache I had an aweful time layering them because at that point I was used to acrylics. Took me a while to get comfortable with gouache and I am definitely still learning.

Just do what you love and the rest will follow, labels mean nothing, it's how the act of creating makes you feel that counts! The Neocolor ll's are a lot of fun, I think you will really enjoy watercolors as well! Thank you so much for watching, it's always nice to meet a fellow animal lover! This is a really useful review of "fave artist products!" I particularly love that you kept them to lightfast supplies. You mentioned a product I didn't know, the FC Pitt Graphite Matt Pencils. I'm so excited to know of a great brand of graphite pencils without the shine that normally comes with graphite! I wanted to mention a product to you. You talked of your love of acrylic markers, but that you've had some problems getting smaller nibs. Posca pens are incredible acrylic markers that are lightfast and come in a wide range of colors and nib sizes. Jerry's Artarama sells them in sets along with open stock markers. Amazon also sells them, but usually at a higher price. Thanks so much for sharing your faves of 2022 with us and I hope that you have a most blessed holiday season.

Thank you so much Linda! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have been wanting to try the POSCA pens but I haven't been able to find their lightfast ratings online. Do you know if they have a color chart that lists the individual ratings for each color? The Pitt Graphite Matt Pencils are lovely! Another good non-shiny graphite are the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black pencils, though to me their softer pencils feel a bit more charcoal like than the Faber-Castell ones do. Thank you for watching! 💖

My favourite art supplies this year: 1. Oil pastels - I just keep coming back to them for ease of set-up, clean-up, and quicker coverage. 2. Clear Gesso - I tried using clear gesso to prime my pastel papers for my oil pastels this year and it has made a huge difference in what I am able to achieve. I can't go back. 3. Coloured Pencils - I've been using these for sketches and colour studies more and more and I'm getting really excited about using them. 4. Water-Based Markers - I've just been enjoying using these in my sketchbook and figuring out the possibilities for more linear art processes with them. 5. My sketchbook - I've really gotten into using my sketchbook more this year, particularly for brainstorming ideas and it has been a great experience.

That's an awesome list Maria!! I bought some clear gesso a while back and haven't had the chance to use it yet, I hear it's super versatile! I still love my oil pastels too, I just haven't worked with them as much because I am super messy with them and have been working in my livingroom. Once the studio is set back up I will be able to jump back into them again!

@@CautionArtistatPlay About the clear gesso, I like to work up my sketch on the paper first, then apply the clear gesso because I find the marks smudge a bit more and aren't as crisp on the gesso. So definitely try both ways when you get around to giving it a try.

I’m glad you mentioned the Caran d’Ache gouache palette as I was considering to put it on my Christmas list for relatives whi asked what I wanted 😊 I love gouache but I find I waste so much paint with tubes and they don’t dry nicely like watercolours, so maybe this could be a solution. I got back to fineliners actually as I started Zentangle, which I find very relaxing. So my favourite art supply list would definitely contain fineliners of various nib sizes. Those in combination with watercolours, where I experimented with limited palettes. And my colour pencils of course, the list is long!! 😂

I think you would definitely like the gouache set, it's so convenient and they lay down nicely! Oh yes, a nice set of fine liners is always a must have! That's so nice Shana! Well, I have to say that the Carandache Neo Color I is on my wish list, I would love to complement them with colored pencils, the Carandache Neo Color II is also on my mind. The Chinese ink pens FCs are very curious, I didn't know about them, thanks for mentioning them. And I already ordered the FC Pitt Matt graphite, and also the Staedtler Lumograph Mars Black, which I want to try. It's all very interesting Shana! I liked the gouaches too. I wanted to ask you if you have tried the St. Petersburg watercolors? and Daniel Smith? They are very good, I recommend them. Daniel Smith's watercolors are kind of thick, and they last a long time, I also like them because they are grainy, they give a beautiful touch!!! St. Petersburg watercolors are not that easy to get in the US. You have to buy them through eBay. Thank you so much Shana for another great video!!!😁❤️😁❤️😁❤️😁❤️🤗

I have not tried the St. Petersburg watercolors, I will have to look into those! Thanks for the suggestion! I love the Mars Lumograph Black too, but the softer pencils start feeling a bit more like charcoal. The Faber-Castell Pitt Matt didn't feel that way to me. Hey there! Welcome to the channel! Unfortunately, I do not have extensive experience in the sketchbook department. I only recently started working in my sketchbook regularly. I am currently using a Jane Davenport Mixed Media Art journal, which I really like so far, unfortunately I bought it a while before I started actually using it, and now its a bit tough to find online. Before that, I was working in a Winsor and Newton watercolor sketchbook (I have a sketchbook tour of that one on my channel,) and I really had a fun time with that one. I also have a small Hahnemuhle watercolor sketchbook that I have dabbled in a bit, and so far, I like that one too. I do have a sketchbook playlist on my channel, but I don't have many videos in it yet, lol. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer! Jess Karp is a fantastic artist on here who works in a lot of different sketchbooks. You may want to check out her channel for inspiration on what to buy! That's how I heard about the Jane Davenport Art Journal! Thank you so much for watching, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi Shana, Great video! Just curious--Do you prefer the Neo 1's over the Neo 2's? Since the Neo 2's can be blended with water and you don't need to use solvent, I always think of that as an advantage. But are there advantages to the 1's over the 2's?
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think they are both great! It's funny because I always figured I would like the 2's more, but I find myself reaching for the 1's more lately. But I think thats because I interchange them with my colored pencils and just use them the in the sane way. I don't have to worry about switching between water and solvent when I am using both and that's how I tend to use them. I initially got them because I thought they would be a challenge, and fell in love. However, I do love the Neocolor 2's as well, I just haven't found myself reaching for them as much this year. I mainly added the 1's to this year's list because I was so surprised at how much I loved them and they don't seem to get as much recognition as the 2's. The 2's do have more in their line though and are super fun. I need to use them again soon, it's been a while!

Hi Martina! You cannot rewet Acrylic Gouache on the palette or while working. Acrylic Gouache gets its name because of the gouache like matte finish, however, there is actually no gouache involved.
