I think it's important to show different media you work with. Personally, I don't trust an artist's review of the product if I can't see the type of work they're capable of doing with that medium. I'm not interested in someone like Jazza talking about acrylic paints or colored pencils, because he knows nothing about them.

Frankie looks very content. I want to return to my acrylic paints soon. It would be wonderful to see more acrylic tutorials, particularly with acrylic ink involved. Today, before your video popped up, I ordered 2 books on acrylic painting!!! I think I joined your channel when you were creating acrylic paintings and soon afterwards I fell in love with coloured pencils. It's healthy to change mediums and to challenge oneself. Thanks for this video. Take care. ❤

THANK YOU FOR THE LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE DOING. AWESOME. I USED INKTENSE PANT POCKET SETS 1&2 ON 140LB WATER COLOR PAPER AND LOVED HOW THEY BEHAVED. I LIKED THAT I WAS ABLE TO CREATE A SMALL SCENE WITH ONE COLOR FOR THE SKY AND WATER EXACTLY THE WAY I WANTED WITHOUT TOO MUCH FUSS AT ALL AND FOR INSTANCE LAYING DOWN SAND FOR A BEACH. I DID NOT HAVE TO CREATE THE SHADOW FOR MY WAVE IT WAS JUST THERE . I ALSO USED THE INKTENSE METALIC SET ON THE SAME PAINTING.I USED THE SILVER METALIC ON THE FOAM OF MY WAVES AND IT MADE THEM STAND OUT JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE. I MUST SAY THOUGH. THE INKTENSE WILL NEED TO BE SEALED. THEY WILL RE-ACTIVATE IF THEY GET WET.

I’m here for the acrylics! Hope to see more like this! You asked, so, yes, I have a marathon going on in the background, even though all my art is selfish art. It’s a 16” square, with wrap-around edge, photorealistic painting of 3 raccoon kits looking out of their nest in a tree. Started over 3 years ago, with other projects in between, as I learned new techniques needed for this big project. I keep finding things to improve just a bit more.

I bet that painting is going to be amazing! Sounds like such a great subject, too. I bet it would be fun to paint! I agree that having other projects going on can definitely help in the fact that you are learning new things that you can bring back to your more extensive piece. I have experienced the same thing with my bigger projects!

So cool that you had frogs and turtles on campus to visit. I used to work across from a botanical gardens and we had turtles there too, but i swear out of several hundred visits to the pond, I only spotted the turtles twice. I don't know if they had frogs, they did have the lily pads, but no frogs. It was always the nicest and most relaxing ways to spend my lunch breaks. I love all of the detail on this one. You know that I personally love seeing you do all kinds of paintings. While you say people love your product review videos, I think videos like this, show that you know your stuff and that gives you much more authority and respect with your reviews. Yap all you want! Its nice getting more of you in this video :)
@CautionArtistatPlay12 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much, Loz! I was fortunate to have this pond right on campus, right next to where I had class! The turtles would swim over when they saw people because people used to feed them, so I saw quite a few of them. They were harder to photograph, though. They blended in with the water quite a bit. I'm glad you had a nice place like that to eat lunch, even if you didn't get to see the critters very often. It's nice to have a spot to quiet the mond during the work day!

Thank you! My next big project that I have been planning is going to be an acrylic painting of the woods where I grew up. My friends and I spent a lot of time in the woods as kids, and in recent years, that spot has been clear cut to make room for more homes. So, one of my favorite places as a child is now gone. Thankfully, I found a photo I took a while back, and I plan to work from that. I do plan to film it, I don't know when I will be able to start it or how long it will take. But I do hope to post it here as a video when I'm done! 🥰 Thanks for asking!

Really enjoying watching you paint your frog! It's fab! Re: brushes - I know not every painter will agree, but brushes are the one place where I believe you can skimp and use cheap or budget brushes and get away with it. Yes, many of the big brand names may be you a better experience and performance, but if you need to cut down costs in some way, you can do it with your brushes with little to no consequence. It can be much riskier to chance your art with a lower grade paper and paints..., unless you're only going to make prints or something like that! I like the Robert simmons white budget brushes and Royal Langnickel are always inexpensive, but good compared to other premium brand names. I have a small amount of the more expensive brushes too. My fave, while not that expensive, is on the higher side for me, and that's Silver Silk 88, a synthetic, I love, love, the Cat's tongue type and use it a lot for watercoloring work. I can go wide or easily make delicate lines. Worth a try..I got mine on Amazon. Thanks!
@CautionArtistatPlay13 сағат бұрын
Thank you, Nancy! I agree! I don't like skimping when it comes to surfaces or paint, but I have been able to get away with it with brushes. I love Royal Langnickel and Simply Simmons brushes, I have a lot of those two brands! I will have to look into the Silver Silk too, thanks for the heads up!

Well hello there Prince Franklin, aka Frankie! I have no idea how to say I think you are beyond talented without sounding either insincere or like a broken record. However, you are! I have watched so many artists with 30, 40, 50+ years of being an artist and for a fair few of them, I would place you in the spot abov for a few reasons. Your versatility when it comes to a variety of mediums is nothing short of astonishing. You have a mastery of each medium far and above so many who use a single medium, and yet you are still so very young. I intend to watch you here for as long as you have the time, and no matter the medium or subject matter used. One day I hope to hear that you plan to leave KZbin for the most part in order to concentrate on planning and exhibiting on a large scale, painting the things that inspire you as an artist. I felt sad to hear you correct yourself from “Artist” to “KZbin Artist”. It felt as though you somehow see your current works of art as somehow less than, when even though you currently may need to be dictated to by your KZbin audience, your body of work ought to be hanging in galleries far and wide. I understand I am simply a fan of you as an artist regardless of the medium, but I don’t feel I can be alone in this opinion. Please produce more of what YOU as a fully fledged artist feel drawn to at any given time. Use KZbin to showcase your versatility and expertise, rather than have KZbin dictate, or worse, attempt to pigeon hole you. KZbin is simply a rung of the ladder you are currently climbing, not your destination. Collate your details and portfolio, along with your social media presence and send it to all the galleries you can track down, and continue to do so, even contacting the same galleries multiple times. I have a certainty in your future, I don’t even have for my own goal of taking a few steps every day, before ultimately using my electric wheelchair. I know what determination looks like, and you, Shana Rowe Jackson have it in spades! Time for me to leave you in piece, but please have a little more faith in your artistry, and push for the future you both crave and deserve! 🖌️👩🏻🎨🎨💜

I'm really bowled over by this piece. Your great sense for laying contrasting textures next to each other in bigger patterns is so much in play here, in this background. That gorgeous eye of the frog kept making me think of something, more and more as it got close to being complete, and then I realized it reminds me of that intricate black enamel jewelry with gold inlay they make in Toledo (I had a pendant in that work once). But the same question comes up again that often does with watching you or other artists build up a detailed piece like this: how do you know it's finished? More, even: how would you know you might be in danger of overworking it?

@@CautionArtistatPlaydo you know much about their Outliners pencils, they come in different colours. Are they worth buying? Thank you
@CautionArtistatPlay2 күн бұрын
The outliner pencil that comes with Inktense feels like a graphite pencil that doesn't smudge as easily. It's so you can create waterproof outlines for your inktense work. I think it just comes in the one dark color. I don't even typically use mine because I don't need it for the kind of work I do. If I do anything on the illustrative side, and I want outlines, I usually bring in a fine liner like a micron pen. Or are you referring to a different outliner pencil?

Hate all of those. Why do art historians pretend that art only means paintings, sculpture, architecture, and maybe some Calligraphy? Where is Music, Dance, Decoration, Theatre, Circus, Clothing, Jewellery, Make-up? Heck, even photography and movies are largely ignored.
@CautionArtistatPlay5 күн бұрын
They make books about those subjects too. There are historians for each of the arts. I'm a painter, so I study other painters and buy books about other painters and visual art. But I also have books about the other arts. I actually took some music and theater history classes when I was in school, and they were really cool! I have books about music, theater, film, photography, jewelery making, etc. I enjoy reading about other arts, but those books don't pertain to this channel because that's not the kind of art I do here. My art history textbooks from college also include things like jewelry, photography, and clothing, and they go over other cultural movements of the time and talk a bit about theater and music. There are books that have all of the arts included. You just have to seek them out. I appreciate all the arts, but since I paint and draw on this channel, those are the kinds of books I tend to share here.
@adorp5 күн бұрын
@CautionArtistatPlay I like books on paintings as well, I only wish the stereotyping would end. Just like a "world history" book should not be limited to European history, I think that a general "arts" book should also not be limited to the major three/four visual non-performance arts. I am angry because the books follow this stereotype way too often. It is so normal that we don't even get bothered by it.
@CautionArtistatPlay5 күн бұрын
@adorp, I understand that. I agree that things should be diversified more. I find it frustrating that a lot of history studies, whether art history or otherwise, put so much emphasis on the accomplishments of a select group of people. It would be nice if, in general, things were more inclusive of different kinds of art and people.

Beautiful painting! I have these and my only complaints are the lack of clean mixing brighter colors and the caps are incredibly hard and painful to open. I have to use pliers multiple times per painting session. Thanks for reviewing them!
@CautionArtistatPlay6 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, I think it's tough for them to make brighter colors because they are using natural earth pigments, so they all tend to lean towards the earth tones, so it can be difficult to get high saturation that way. I'm sorry that you have been having such a rough time with the caps. Caps can be the bane of my existence sometimes! Golden has a tool made for opening paint tubes, and it has been a game changer for me! Here's that tool if you are interested! (Affiliate link) amzn.to/40XEC4h Thanks for watching!

I love this piece, and watching you think it and execute it from the bottom up has made me plan something similar myself. One of the first things I did with colored pencils, learning how to create color blends, was trying to catch the subtle colors and textures and grains of beach stones, trying to get the different kinds recognizable. This is such a big handful of ideas and techniques to do just that! So I took out those rock patches I made and went over them to see how I can rethink it. About your question: I am getting a small (six or twelve) set of Inktense pencils, and I think I will get the smallest set of the blocks too because I like to do big background fills on some things, and my pencil sets get very uneven wear when some get used up that way. No doubt I will be happy for the stick of pigment for other reasons as I go along.

I really like the texture of these wings. There's two beautifully defined substances, or sets of substances there ( not saying this very well . . . ), the background woods and the "fabric" of the wings, which are not just a milky haze, but have that fine flecking on their own that are part of the figure's identity. But of course she is magical, so you can expect impossible effects from your media. Enjoyed watching this come to life on your commentary. It was a good day for me to find such a cheery excursion. Thinking about getting a little six-tin of Inktense -- you have made me very curious!

Rereading this, I don't think I quite conveyed what looked so great to me: the way you layered the wings to read as being in front of the trees so there is the fine illusion of two separate, readable surfaces with distance between them. Of course your work with foliage is always brilliant, so that helps.😊
