When Hector the Horrid would come on PBS, I always enjoyed it, and as an adult, realizing how mucked Thomas’s character is during the HIT era, I love it even more, truly a gem. Thomas feels like an actual adult in it, and even adult Thomas has his breaking point, it’s not sugar coated as to how pissed Thomas is, he’s at the end of his fuse. But when he realizes that he caused Hector to derail, he immediately switches his tone, to being gentle. A genuinely great episode that I don’t see many talk about

I think Hector is the standout among the new additions during the HiT Era. For one, he’s a truck, not an engine. But he also has a conclusive character arc. Like, you watch Molly or Dennis’s episodes, and even though they technically have character traits, you kinda wish they’d star in another episode or two to completely flesh them out. Hector however has a character arc that completes in a single episode. It’s short yes, but he at least has one. It would’ve been nice if we saw more of him, but I think he was treated better than the likes of Neville or Madge. Absolute gem of a character.

The Duke episodes are my absolute favourites. I'm lucky enough to have a season 4 DVD as a kid, had many happy memories watching the narrow gauge episodes by my grandma. Considering the other Thomas DVDs I had was Sharon Miller or HIT stuff it's no wonder why. 😊

My papa used to watch it with us and when he passed a couple of years ago, I haven’t been able to watch it without being reminded of how important he was in my life

Really cool to see Happy Ever After get some love. In a season with that many bangers it gets overlooked a lot. And while it's honestly toward the bottom of S5 for me, it's still cool to see it get some respect.

Love your channel mate! I'm 37 years old and just getting back into Thomas... is that weird?!? I was rummaging through my attic and happened to find my ERTL collection and it reminded me of how much I love this franchise! I only saw the first season as a child because that's all I had on VHS, but I am so happy because now I get to watch all the other seasons! I think this list is good. While, I haven't watched all of the HiT Era, because life, I have been watching the franchise in some capacity in 34 years of life. With that said, here is my list. 10: Old Reliable Edward from Series 18. Most of the Brennaissance episodes are... *chefs kiss* ...brilliant. Especially in the UK dub. (Funny that I, a North American prefers the UK dub of the TV series.) 9: Percy's Promise from Series 3. While personally, I'd have preferred it being in Series 2, but, I understand why. This episode shows just how brave Percy can be, despite a flood and water threatening to put out his fire. 8: Horrid Lorries from Series 5. I have always loved the idea of rail vs road competition. This reminds me of what happens in real life when rail companies compete against road freight carriers. And of course, Thomas's line about the lorries at the end always cracks me up, because at times, Thomas can be a savage roaster, and I love it! His roasting reminds me of Lamar's roasting from GTA V in that it's savage, yet laughable. 7: Escape from Series 3. What more can I say that hasn't been said by the rest of the fandom? 6: The Flying Kipper from Series 1. Much like Number 7, what more can I say that hasn't already been said? 5 & 4: Granpuff and Sleeping Beauty from Series 4. I always found those two equally great, and make you feel sad and later optimistic about Duke. Still makes me wish we saw more of him. Ah well, at least we have the fandom making tons of stories involving him. 3: Henry's Forest from Series 3. God, that episode is one of the few episodes in the TV series that genuinely brings a tear to my eye, even at 34 years young. It's a great story about Henry and shows his gentle side and how nature can sometimes be destructive, yet, will bounce back again. 2: Edward's Exploit from Series 2. My god, this episode. You gotta feel for Edward as he valiantly makes it back to the station with enthusiasts despite being damaged. Admittedly, the story in the Railway Series does the damage better, and I can understand why they didn't for the model. But, it still works as an adaptation and honestly going forward, I wish they had kept this as continuity that Gordon and James respect Edward showing that despite age, he can be an iron fist when push comes to shove. 1: Rusty and the Boulder from Series 5. Yes, I know it's not fully realistic, but, I've always gotten a Thomas meets Indiana Jones vibe about most of the episode, and the line The Fat Controller gives about leaving part of the island alone is so true. In some areas, where nature can be unstable, rather than mess with it, you just leave it be. Some places shouldn't be disturbed by man. Rather, just left to its own devices.

Personal List: 1. Put Upon Percy (shows Percy's more mature side and has probably the most tense sequence of the whole series for me) 2. A Close Shave (probably the best runaway of the whole series for me) 3. The Flying Kipper (beautiful visuals with equally beautiful track) 4. Busy Going Backwards (only Toad centered episode and william tell overature is peak) 5. Something in the Air (great nightime visuals with amazing buildup to crash) 6. Breakvan (introduces my two favorite characters of the series and has two solid crashes) 7. Old Iron (great underdog narrative with solid runaway) 8. Horrid Lorry (probably the best one-off antagonists of the whole show) 9. Dirty Objects (Good crash and satisfying to see toby stand up for himself) 10. Trust Thomas (shows Thomas at his most likable)

Mine 10 is extremely controrversial but is only there because of that one crash 10. Cranky Bugs 9. Something in the air 8. Gordon takes a tumble 7. Forgot the episode name but its the episode where boco saves Gordon from bill and ben. 6. Granpuff/Sleeping Beauty 5. Haunted Henry 4. A better view for Gordon 3. Duncan gets spooked 1. The Flying Kipper Gordon and Henry episodes are extremely peak. (Theyre both my 2 favourite engines with James closely at 3rd.) Gordon and Henry have just always had perfect narration. The Henry/Gordon duo is arguably one of the best duos to exist.

Granpuff was the first episode I ever saw when I was 4 years old, so those episodes with Duke, and the Skarloey engines in general, will always mean something special to me👌👍👍 Duke is truly the John Wayne (nicknamed the Duke) of all the engines

Wouldn’t it be cool if someone adapted horrid lorries as a top gear episode? Picture this. The trio state that this island off the coast of england uses outdated railway technology to move their goods and barely use the roads. So the producers gave them a budget to go out and buy a lorry and show the people of sodor that a lorry is better for doing the job. Here’s what happened… We see the episode play out from Top gear trios point of view, some fun witty banter some success at first, especially when taking over toby’s work, but clarkson was speeding through the gorge and crashed, Hammond was over confident on the flour run his lorry broke down, and as for May, well let’s just say he forgot to leave the hand brake on. the three of them show up just after thomas insulted the lorries, clarkson is dusty, has a bump on his head, hammond is as white as a ghost, and May covered in seaweed. and on that bombshell it is time for us to end so good night.

I love Henry’s Forest and that argument about realism some are making is just crazy…if Awdry wanted real the engines would be dead after some of the crashes they suffer because no real engine would survive…they would most likely blow up on or from the impact Giving life to a character means bending the rules…cars planes boats and trains don’t sleep…only people and animals do…but in series like Thomas or Tugs and movies like Cars or Planes machines are given human qualities while maintaining their machine aspects…they talk and sleep and sometimes move freely but for the most part they don’t “act” like humans…Thomas and all the engines are still engines but giving them personalities means going deeper into their character which for Henry is a love of nature…no real trains wouldn’t care about a forest but they also wouldn’t care what train they pulled or what color they were painted or about being in the rain or snow…cars don’t care about races nor have mentors and best friends and love interests but Lightning from Cars does…and all the tugboats have their own set of personalities and quirks real boats don’t which is the point…these shows and movies are meant to be fun not real…they follow their own set of rules not the real world

Honestly, I don't like The End of Time that much. It feels like Russell T got WAY too full of himself and Tennant's hissy fit...just no As for the Thomas episodes, I think Hector the Horrid is a bit overrated, but definitely still one of the best series 11 episodes. And Thomas, Percy and the Post Train, it's not my *favourite* narrative wise, but oh man, the visuals. Post Train and Thomas and Stepney are the two episodes, for me, that I just love sitting there looking at

You've been making videos for NINE years and you never made something for your favourite episodes? SLACKER!!! Henry's Forest is a weird one for me. I remember when I was younger, my cousin had Trust Thomas on VHS, and I remember asking once if we could watch that when I'm over at his house, but because I suck, I describe the VHS tape as "That one that has that giant storm! That one was great!" It's not even my favourite episode on the tape, so goodness knows why that's the first one that came to mind. Maybe I'm just a sucker for destruction and misery... And even then, I didn't learn until much later about Awdry hating the episode... but hey ho, it's OK for Wilbert to have bad taste in entertainment 🤣

Don’t get me wrong, I love season 5, but my biggest problem with that season l is how underutilized Edward is in that season. Even as a kid I always felt sad that Edward didn’t have any starring episodes in season 5. I think the episodes Thomas, Percy And Old Slow Coach and Happy Ever After should’ve instead have been called Edward, Percy And Old Slow Coach and Edward’s Good Luck Package and have those 2 episodes be Edward’s starring episodes of season 5. Thomas also probably would’ve been swapped out with Percy in Edward’s Good Luck Package. I do firmly believe that if Percy was female instead of male (but still have her be named Percy and have her look and sound identical to her male counterpart in every single way) then this all would’ve been the case since Edward would’ve been the 5th boy instead of 6th.

Love all the Series 5 choices. Although I think you can hold the rushed ending of Post Train against it, I've seen eps in the 4 ‘n’ a half minutes time limit have far more satisfying endings and be well paced, I don't think that ep has an excuse. Though a lot of things to unpack with the Henry's Forest take. Firstly, no, it and Fishing aren't comparable. Thomas takes interest in it because he's watched the fisherman in action, Henry's interest comes out of nowhere. Also your choices for moments of 'lack of railway practice' are all odd because those were all based on real events. Percy Runs Away is based on an incident when the crew jumped out of their engine as an express approached and pulled the regulator to save their machine; Plunge happened because goods trains are hard to stop (not least with a tank engine) and the rails were slippery; and Off the Rails is based on a report of a LMS engine coming off a turntable. Allegedly with GNR A1s they also tended to move on turntables as they raised steam because the movement shifted their controls.
