Aloha Monica Gosh, that Byrds Greatest Hits brings back memories . My first copy of that Byrds Greatest Hits was when I was in 7th grade, 1968. My Dad got me a Shoebox Cassette player & about 5 Cassette tapes for my birthday & one of the tapes was the Byrds Greatest Hits.

Hello Monie, I just watched your podcast interview with Chance and I really enjoyed your energy and enjoyment as you spoke about your music, what it does for you, and your collection as well as your reasons for your love of vinyl! It was a great interview and I am glad that I saw it. I noticed you had the Tron LP in your collection in this video. One of my favorite all-time bands, especially between the years of 1978 and 1996 when they still had the fantastic singer Steve Perry with them, is the band Journey. When I was growing up in the '80s that music touched home and hit my heart like nothing else did. In both the happy times and the darker times it spoke to me. I thought I'd mention this to you just in case you ever get a chance to listen to any of their late '70s or early '80s music. 1978 was the Infinity album, 1979 was the Evolution album, 1980 was the Departure album and I believe that was the year for their Captured 2 LP live album also. They made it real big in 1981 with their Escape album and then in 1983 they had their Frontiers album. If you ever get a chance to check out any of these albums, I highly recommend it. They have a variety of songs that can take you on a ride, both up and down, like they did for me when I was younger. The reason I mentioned this band is because there was a song they had not put on an album or CD until 1989 but it was on the Tron album. It was titled Only Solution. And to be honest, there was a second song in the movie and on the album that was just an instrumental from the band and I believe it was titled 1999. I had the cassette tape of it growing up but that's one album I need to get myself since I haven't replaced it through the years. I look forward to checking out some of your other videos and I hope you have a great time as you take your journey through the music you collect and listen to! Brian in Fort Worth 🎶

Hello Monie! Great choices, and I always get stuck on the Byrds' song 8 Miles High when I listen to Greatest Hits of the Byrds. My parents were boomers, and their generation and their music hold a special place in my heart, too. I have to check out the other artists on your list (the 2000s artists I'm not familiar with, those are!)

Your list is cool and covers a lot of bases. I compiled mine a few weeks back in response to others videos and since our lists shared both Sufjan's masterpiece Carrie & Lowell and Tycho's Dive, I figured I'd cut and paste my my top 15 ( a bit of a cheat but not bad considering I more likely have a top 20 rotation than a top 10). FWIW, here it is cut and pasted: Alex G - God Save The Animals (2022) Anaïs Mitchell - Anaïs Mitchell (2022) Big Thief - U.F.O.F. (2021) Bonny Light Horseman - Bonny Light Horseman (2020) Brendan Canning - You Gots 2 Chill (2013) Dougie Maclean - Craigie Dhu (1983) Great Lake Swimmers - Ongiara (2007) Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days (2005) Jake Xerxes Fussell - Good and Green Again (2022) Joan Shelley - Over and Even (2015) Lightning Bug - A Color Of The Sky (2021) Luluc - Sculptor (2018) Nick Drake - Bryter Layter (1970) Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell (2015) Flag Day [Original Soundtrack](2021) soundtrack > the actual movie A couple of chill Electronic albums for when I'm in that specific mood: The Dining Rooms - Numero Deux (2001) Tycho - Dive (2011) Some from 2023 that are likely to make my growing life list of personal go-to chill-out music but need more time to stew: Andy Shauf - Norm (2023) Hayden - Are We Good (2023) Midlake - Antiphon (2023) The Mountain Goats - Dark In Here (2023) Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit - Weathervanes (2023) Beach Fossils - Bunny (2023) M. Ward - Supernatural Thing (2023) Slowdive - Everything Is Alive (2023) honorable mention... Bart Davenport - Game Preserve (technically 2003 but I only discovered it on this year's AAA all-analog 20th anniversary release on Mimosa Marbled Vinyl...if that matters to you) Some reissues or first time on vinyl that I have been enjoying (or will be): Lush - Split Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk Cowboy Junkies - Lay It Down (still waiting for this one to arrive) Cheers ✌

Wow !! So many I never heard of, I gotta mention Great Lake Swimmers- I totally forgot about them but their 2007 album Ongiara was one of my favorites of that time, was with me on my journey and brings a flood of memories. I gotta check up on them and see if their still making music

@@MonieMuse Ongiara is still a classic for sure. I'm off to see them here in Montreal this Saturday night so they are indeed still playing / touring. I highly recommend their new-ish 2023 release Uncertain Country. I didn't mean to overwhelm with my list, but given some of the overlap, you might find some other (especially 'chill') tunage. That said, no one can keep up with all the releases. Cheers!

I have been listening to that Byrds greatest hits record since I was in high school in the mid-80’s. Of course all the 60’s stuff was getting a resurgence in the mid to late 80’s. Anyway, that album has so many good songs on it. Not just the hits. They’re the reason I bought a 12-string Rickenbacker. I love that Tycho album, too. It makes great hiking background music. That whole genre is so nice to listen to. But, I have to say Slow Rush is my least favorite Tame Impala record for some reason. Kevin is awesome and I LOVE the first 3 records. I didn’t find out about them/him until I saw the KZbin live stream of Coachella in 2013. I was hooked. Such a good performance. I’m done blabbing. Thank you for sharing your top 10 (11)

Hey you remember when Coachella was good? 😂

The Byrds Greatest Hits was one of the first lps I bought in the 60s. I’ve always enjoyed the lightness of their folk-rock electric sound. Beautiful vocal harmonies too. They were the first rock band to copy a Dylan song and use a 12-string electric guitar. Gene Clark, the group’s founder and maybe their best songwriter left the band early, and the others filled in by picking up songwriting duties-Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, and Chris Hillman. Imagine a band with four singers and songwriters. The drummer, Michael Clarke, I know less about, and I’m not even sure if he played on their first album. The band’s last lp saw Crosby fired before its completion, but if may be the best-The Notorious Byrd Brothers. I’ve always enjoyed the country tinged Sweetheart of the Rodeo and Untilted as well. Sweetheart had McGuinn and Hillman still, and on Untitled only McGuinn of the original lineup remained. Yeh, I’m a Boomer too. There was some great music in those days. So cool to see you list a Byrds record. Definitely get their first two lps with Gene Clark, and The Notorious Byrd Brothers as well. You’ve got a great vinyl channel.

amazing to hear some of your insight on the Bryds, i can hear how special they are, I didn't realize the band had so many great song writers, when David Crosby passed away i was shocked when i learned he was in the brdys! whoa the Bryds was one of a kind, they really did capture a sound of a generation. Thank you for your kind words, I enjoy sharing my records but more than that LEARNING more about the music from those who were there.

@@MonieMuse "Surf's Up" was a turning point for them, they were changing their sound to more pop, instead of the surf music that they were known for. I'm a huge Beatles fan and Paul McCartney always says that Pet Sounds is one of his biggest inspirations, so I wanted to hear that record. It inspired Sgt Pepper's Heart Club Band one of the best albums ever. But my first impression was, the album title should be Christmas Album. It's a family music. I don't get it. Parents should play it the their kids. It has nothing to do with psychedelic, anxious, working class heroes work. Absolutely nothing.
