So - I got married a few weeks ago. While I was prepping for the wedding I heard that there were ways to preserve my flowers. On Etsy I saw that people cast flowers in resin for $200+ and thought, “I can do that myself!” Fast forward to me YouTubing how to put a wedding bouquet in resin, and now I’m binge watching all your videos while waiting for all my resin supplies to come in the mail 😂 You’re the best Resin-ist on KZbin by far. Your creativity, the way you work, the way you teach. And you’re super chill but simultaneously super fun attitude :) Thank you for everything you do!!

Instead of aiming your heat gun at your cup while mixing, get yourself a candle warming plate from Walmart and sit your cup or whatever you’re mixing in on it for a minute or two before mixing. It works so amazing! I used to warm my epoxy in warm water before pouring into my measuring cup but like you said it’s so messy and so much unnecessary work! The candle warming plate is a game changer!

Hi so I’m definitely intrigued but I hope you see this because I’m wondering when you say “sit your cup or whatever you’re mixing in on it for a minute or two before mixing“ is that the two parts together in the cup and then set it on the warmer before mixing?

@@bigtimetorifan hi! I measure out a and b in 2 different medicine cups. Before I pour part a into part b I sit both cups on the warming plate. So I warm them separately. Hope that helps.

Thank you for mentioning safety bc not a lot of big resin artists will mention it but it’s so important! I want to add that even if a resin says “low VOC” or “no odor” that doesn’t mean it’s totally safe. If you’re not sure what is in the resin you’re using, google “(your resin brand) safety data sheet” and it’ll give you all the information about protective gear and health hazards. Most resins will mention respirators, gloves, and ventilation. You should always be wearing a respirator and gloves for your health! thanks again 💙
@kimmylovespolish
@kimmylovespolish 4 жыл бұрын
Also, just because you can’t smell it doesn’t mean it’s safe. And just because you haven’t had a reaction to epoxy yet, it doesn’t mean you won’t in the future. (This is coming from somebody with a resin sensitivity from improper protection)

In dentistry bubbles are super annoying too, especially when trying to make a plaster cast of someone’s teeth. After we mix the plaster we place the mixture on this little metal plate that vibrates to bring all the bubbles to the top of the plaster. I feel like that method may work pretty well when trying to remove bubbles from mixing! :) also love your videos!!!!!

Emily Taylor I have tried it for molds - and it works for molds - I have not tried it for flowers - but I had stones in a piece yesterday and it helped. Pro Tip: Don’t put it on high unless you have EVERYTHING on that table secure - it is quite strong! I really like it - I bought the “East-Dental Small Square Quartet Model Vibrator Lab Equipment JT-51B” on Amazon - again - SECURE everything if you turn it on high!! Start at a low setting! Hope it works for you too!!!

Great suggestion!!!! I used to work in dentistry and I think that is great advice. I would also make sure that your piece was not full of resin to avoid spills and cover the “vibrator” with plastic or tape😍 to keep it looking new!!🤩

I agree so much with what you said about just jump in and go for it when doing resin the first time! I've only made 5 small jewelry pendants and it took me 3 years to work up the courage to do it because of being intimidated! I did simple resin with glitter pieces and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be! The only thing I did wrong is use too much glitter because my resin didn't pour into the molds, it plopped!! Lol! Way to much glitter but they turned out awesome! I've been so indecisive about what resin to buy - but you helped me decide! I am going to get CounterCulture DIY resins for sure - and their awesome silver holographic glitter after just watching your husband's UFO video lol!! Thanks again for sharing all of your knowledge in this video!!

You will not regret using CCDIY! I promise you, it is the best resin on the market. It is the priciest one I’ve found, but I’m telling you, it is 100% worth it!

Great video (in the new location :-) ) I think that the "several-cup-tip" has been advised by the companies. They didn't want to have any complaints about resin not being mixed/cured the right way. Normally when you pour the mixed resin into a new cup, most of the unmixed stuff on the sides or the ground etc. stays in the first cup. So everybody is on the safe side. Happy crafting and hi from Germany :-)

I've also found those dollar store 500ml measuring cups work great, and I just leave a film of epoxy in the cup and when cured it pops out in nearly one piece making cleanup and reusing them really simple. I also use just one cup though suggestions say to use multiple, I just make sure to scrape the sides to ensure everything is mixed well and also check for "streaks".. I'd also like to add the best Tip I've discovered myself: forget using a heat gun or torch, and get a fine mist spray bottle (often used in salons and/or for hair) with 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol to pop the bubbles.. it works like magic.

Okay, I just have to tell you that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOU!!! I found you a few weeks ago when I was searching how to put an insect in resin (a dearly departed bumblebee that I wanted to memorialize for my son 😂🙏 🐝. I swear, I’m not ENTIRELY nasty! 🤣), and you cracked me UP! I had my daughter watch your video bc your personality reminded me so much of her. Now we are both subscribers! 💗 I am a bit of a beginner. I actually started about a year ago, but unknowingly botched up an entire batch. I had one heck of a time getting the stuff out of my molds and the precious stones I used in the resin were all gross and not reusable. #lessons 🤦‍♀️ After a long period of pouting and mourning, haha, I am setting out to dabble again. Thanks for all of your awesome videos, your fun personality, your helpful hints and your beautiful artwork. I am so glad I found you!

Yes, this video has helped me heaps! I decided that I want to set native flowers into jewellery and so I have been gathering bits and pieces for the past few weeks to start my resin adventure. I’ve majorly fallen down the KZbin rabbit hole, watching so many resin videos. I love yours because I genuinely feel like you are speaking right to me. Thank you, I think today is the day I’ll give it a go. 😊🙌 Also, unrelated to resin, can you please show us your engagement ring? It looks 💯✨👌 😂
