What do you think of Creative Paperclay? It's a lot cheaper than La Doll but i noticed that it tends to have a noticably rougher texture, paper flyaways and people say its harder to create small detail. Would it be okay to use Paperclay as a base and then a layer of ladoll on top of it to have the smooth texture and malleability of ladoll/premier? For a larger doll like a 1/3 size doll, i thought it would be best to save the more expensive clay for finer details only.

All that you noted in your comment is correct. I used it for a while when I couldn’t find La Doll, early in my career. It does have a lot of paper pulp in it, so even when you sand everything it still has those tiny paper fibers visible. You can minimize it by coating the sanded sculpture with water using a soft brush. La Doll has those fibers as well, but not as much. You can definitely use Paperclay for the base and then finish with La Doll. Just use enough water while sculpting to make sure everything sticks together.

Trying to save for this course! How do you keep joints from spinning out of place, like thigh to shin
@Nymphaidolls4 ай бұрын
Mostly by sculpting the sockets that prevents the ball from turning where it’s not supposed to. Everyone does it differently, you can even add “stoppers” that click perfectly in place where the joint meets the socket. It’s hard to explain without showing examples. Some engineering has to be done, when sculpting joints 😅

How many packages of modeling clay do you usually need for one doll?
@Nymphaidolls5 ай бұрын
It depends on the size of the doll. I usually use up one, but just to be safe I’d get two to leave some room for mistakes.

I know you by instargram , and I very like dolls which you make. I also want to make a ball joint doll. I watched the videos that you share on KZbin but I don’t understand how to make ball joints by hand, and how to cut holes in it . Can you helps me about it ? Hope you reply ! Thank you for reading.

I have a BJD sculpting masterclass, which is on sale right now, where I show every step in BJD sculpting process, so check that out. ☺️ But basically I sculpt rough balls by hand and “shave” them in to perfect spheres by using circle template. All the holes and openings can be drilled with the Dremel tool.
